Indeed, it's a really good piece. I tire of freedom of speech/satire defences of crappy awful things.

Accused(/convicted) Rapist = Innocent until proven guilty, when found guilty presumed still innocent. Meanwhile, accuser(/victim) = Assumed guilty of lying.

Aye, if only for the purely selfish view that that is exactly the aim of these attacks. They want a backlash, they want to foster Islamaphobia, they want to harness ill feeling as a recruitment tool. Obviously, there is the human element to it too. I'll leave it to individuals to decide which reason is best for them. Edit: Good post btw Smirks

Not a pop at you Charlie, but I'm so sick of fans going on about "Manager x doesn't have a plan b blah blah". Seems to be the en vogue criticism of managers at the moment.

I don't doubt Batman was being sarcastic. But seems you have to be hyper-explicit, lest you have some ridiculous claim you weren't making be laid at your feet. As I alluded to above, this is a really interesting debate in of itself. I don't want to go too far down a tangent, as this isn't the place for it. I know we have discussed it briefly before, and I seemed to have a slightly different view to others. I was going to start a thread on a few interesting examples a while back, but it got too long and was a bit too focused on one industry.

Aye, I'm not saying it (or the others you mentioned) shouldn't exist. It's an interesting, but separate topic for sure.

Lebanese Hezbollah leader: Extremists harm Islam more than cartoons

I havn't seen it said much, but Charlie Hebdo is kinda trashy. It has a history of racism, sexism and homophobia amongst some other things. Granted, it mocks lots of groups without a focus on any specific group - but it has been nasty at times. This is in no way whatsoever to say or suggest the attack was deserved in any way shape or form. And no, France or French people shouldn't feel the need to apologise.

Oh sweet mercy. A lot of the different denominations have their own issues. I have neither the time nor inclination to go through each one individually and list them, I'm sure no one really wants to read that. Please forgive me that I did not quite explicitly state, what other people seemed to understand, that I was referring to the main most widely followed denominations.

That may be pushing it

Should be said, I am not in the slightest religious either. If people choose to follow a religion and they find solace in that also, more power to them. Yes, I do have some issues with religion, and in particular the institutions themselves the Christian 'Church' is rotten to the f***ing core. But that does not mean I am going to start painting all people that do follow a religion and live their lives in a normal, peaceful way as mentally ill or brainwashed. Neither will I take a sample of less than 1% of a community and use that to tar the remaining 99%, or start singling out specific groups as inherently evil - as has been demonstrated all religions and races are culpable of awfully evil atrocities.

Internet Atheists are awful. You can file Dawkins in that category also.

Newcastle fans are worse than any other fans. I found this image that proves it, I can't find any other examples of football related violence:

Or mental illness apparently. Tolerance!

Here Jeff, Shurlock has explained things better than I did*. The point about Roma & Sinti folk is worth raising, I'd also throw Black people into the mix also as they were also in the sights of the Nazis as well. The eugenics arguments they trumped up were the justification for 'euthanising' the disabled, those with mental illness/learning difficulties and of course homosexuals. *Edit: re-reading that sound snarky, just to clarify I'm being sincere. T'was a good post.

Indeed, I read it as such. I tried to answer as best I could, I'm a little rusty on Nazi history. There's probably some posters who are better equipped to help.
-
Think Hitler was an Atheist, though I may be wrong? Seem to recall they did set up a form of Nazi Church (probably not exactly a religion) that was largely for show. But it was certainly a race/politics thing.

Yeah, to be honest that is worse than the Hillsborough comments for me. Obviously (apparently I need to spell everything out explicitly lest some bizarre claim be thrown at me) the Hillsborough comments are ridiculously ill-judged and insensitive.
-
Did you find where I was endorsing the treatment of women in Islam? I'm guessing raising a totally unrelated act of violence means no. I'm not aware of this one, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's a vile act. Like I would any act which involves murdering people. Again, where have I said anything that suggests I would condone it?
-
You mean the lists on the very front page of Google you couldn't find Or all the other examples you've chosen to ignore. And, predictably he doesn't understand, you're angry, you're confused etc.

Religion is backwards. Everything I think religious people do is backwards **pulls out bizarre extreme hypothetical**. If people think differently to me, they are backwards and living in the past. I truly am the tolerant one.
