I think the way we play we are going to come unstuck sometimes, and quite possibly get a few unpleasant hammerings. But, I do also think we created some good chances, and had some decent spells of possession. If we can do that @ City, I see no reason why we can't create chances against anyone.

Probably get nagged at for stating this - but Swansea lost 4-0 at City in their first game last season and did fine. What I'm saying is, if we do get a going over - which I suspect may be the case - it is not the end of the world. I'm not saying that losing 4-0 means we will do as well as Swansea or anything like that, but let's not get carried away. They have an unbelievable front line, and our weakness at the moment is our back line. IMO, it's going to be a torrid day for Saints. That said, I'll be over the moon if I am made to look a mug, and I'll be watching happily either way because it will mean WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE!!

All I can see is the usual suspects petulantly stamping their feet and bemoaning things they simply do not know. Do you mongs who make the same complaints over and over, and say how the world will implode week in week out, only to be proven wrong time and again never learn? Transfers of players are not as easy as they seem on Footy Manager, with a lot of money, people, circumstances and vested interests all having to be aligned for them to come off. I'm sure both Adkins & Cortese are aware there are holes in the squad that could do with plugging - I mean, the former has won 4 promotions in the last six years, suggesting he probably knows something more about managing a football club than any of us on here. The latter, is a very successful businessman and in his short time as a Football Club CEO has done pretty well thus far. Just because things have not come off, or we have not heard about them, doesn't mean they are not doing anything, or working day & night to try and get things done. Probably worth bearing in mind it has been an unusually busy summer with the Euro's and Olympics, therefore dealings are often put on hold, with scouts, players, managers, and agents all otherwise engaged. Yes, we could do with extra CB cover & possibly a new winger/AM. It does look like we are making movements towards this in the form of Matt Phillips, and I would be willing to lay down a reasonably large sum that the club are trying to put something together for Saints to bring in at least one CB, if not also a second. Yes, the season does start this weekend, but let's face it - new CB or not, it's going to be a big fat bagel for Saints come Sunday. We have made some very good signings thus far, and I trust the people actually in Football, not sat on a mongboard throwing hissyfits every other week (yes you, Alpine) know what they are doing, and are trying to address these problems. Keep calm ladies.

Also, who did Norwich & Swansea sign last year? Danny Graham? Michel Vorm (yeah turned out to be pretty good - but if we had signed him this summer he would probably be a 'lack of quality' signing), James Vaughan, Anthony Pilkington? Richie de Laet? QPR brought 'quality' like Joey Barton on £70k p/w and look how it all turned out for them?

Nailed that for me to be honest. I don't really know who you would like to see that would be 'better' quality. Also, seriously, it's been how long now? 3 years? And yet this, 'we haven't been linked with anyone', stuff keeps coming up. Just because it's not in the papers, or Adkins isn't in the press talking about everyone else's players (ala Redknapp), doesn't mean anything isn't going on.

Personally, I don't think many teams will look to bother man making any of our players. Most teams will, rightly or wrongly, look at us and think they can get three points and so will focus more on their own game.

Also, it's just 8 days since he played his last game in the Euro's. Pretty sure him, Silva & anyone else involved in the latter stages of the tournament will be on holiday still. But hey, why let facts get in the way?

15,000 is just the centre court capacity, Wimbledon as a whole has a much higher capacity and much higher crowds on a daily basis across the tournament.

3 years ago yesterday I would never have envisaged us ever being where we are now, perhaps not just at this point, but ever. Thank you so much Markus, in football terms, these have the best three years of my life. What you have given us will never be forgotten. A mention should go to Nicola Cortese as well. I sincerely hope you are now at peace you wonderful hero to our humble little football club.

Wouldn't take the sheer number of articles saying basically the same things as evidence the deal is nearly done. Got a mate who is a sports journo, agencies are commissioned to produce 'x' number of articles a day - he was telling me t'other day that they basically look for a story (usually foreign ones, to translate), rehash and post on. This seems quite widespread practice, so a proliferation of stories about the same thing is no sure sign a deal is imminent. Don't know anything about the guy, so would be harsh to comment. Agree that Dickson & Harding probably aren't going to be up to it in the Prem (along with a few others still in the squad) so there probably will be strengthening made throughout. I trust Adkins, so if it does happen let's get behind the lad! COYS

I don't disagree. Personally I'm not sure how up to it Chappers & Hammond are. I could be wrong. There is need for competition for places. However, what I meant was that from what little I have seen and what Gers fans have told me, Davis doesn't seem to go along with our policy of signing better than what we already have?

Yeah I guess, it just sounds a lot to give a player that hardly set the world alight in his last stint in the Premier League. Based on the words of this Rangers fan, who has seen a lot more of the fella than myself (I haven't seen a huge amount if I'm being honest) and his thoughts were he has a tendency to go missing for long periods in big games. Just doesn't seem to go along with the transfer policy of signing players better than what we have, he also doesn't seem to possess the 'character' we look for in players. I could quite easily be wrong, I thought England wouldn't win a game at the Euro's, so what do I know?

Was chatting to a Rangers fan last night. Their lot are convinced Davis to Saints is as good as done? Apparently we are giving him a £2m signing on fee - hence is willingness to jump ship. I said(& think) it seems an odd one, with central midfield probably being one of our stronger positions, with Morgan & Cork being two of out best players (IMO). Anyway, just thought I'd pass this on, not so sure of this myself.

This. It's hardly the end of the club, or our history, or the world. Touch of perspective? This time next year it will be all forgotten - I actually struggle to remember last seasons away kit off the top of my head. If you really don't like it, you won't have to put up with it for all that long. It is only the kit FFS, I'm far more concerned about what the players wearing the kit are doing. I actually don't mind either, not my favourite, but they're alright.
