Dean Hammond - Brighton Season Long Loan Deal
KelvinsRightGlove replied to Big_Bald_Si's topic in The Saints
Sad to see the guy go. Been a great captain for the club, this move would appear to suit all parties involved. Best of luck Deano. -

Staggered at that board. As you said, on the whole they seem extremely well informed and reasonable. -
Well said mate. I was very critical of Twitter, but now I am a total convert. It's a great way to get an insight/info that you wouldn't get otherwise.

I don't get this uber-fan ********. Surely we want people to support our club? That's kind of what 'growing' means, no? People moan about empty seats, yet they moan about new fans. Can't have it both ways really. Happy for anyone to come along and cheers on the Saints, especially if they are paying for tickets/shirts/scarves etc. All helps towards our next Japanese international signing. Oh also, welcome aboard Yoshi - yes, that is how I will refer to him forever henceforth, deal with it TSWF. -
Darn. A boy can dream, right?

Benayoun apparently off out on loan. Would be a decent signing for someone.

Haha fair points mate, I do tend to agree with you. I'm not so sure there ever was that much 'hype' was there? Except, ofcourse, the hype he created himself. I do think given a real chance at a club he could be a useful player. I think some strikers really need to be the 'main man' at a club to really flourish, which I think goes hand-in-hand with the belief/ego thing. Surprised there has been so little interest in him to be honest, and no I'm not advocating him for Saints - quite happy with who we have signed/are looking at in his position.

Like Bendtner?

Emmanuel Mayuka - Officially Signed on OS - Work Permit Confirmed

It was my understanding that this is a large part of what Mr Reed's job is at Saints? Is this right, or have I made this up? -

Welcome aboard Mr Mayuka, excited to see this guy in a Saints shirt. He looks pretty dynamic, think he will certainly cause problems and make things happen. Seems a tadd odd we are have signed him and are still in for Gaston Ramirez, specially having already broken our transfer record on JRod this summer. Very strong attack though, with different types of players, I'm really looking forward to Chung being fully-fit again, good to see him score last night. Do we reckon someone is on their way out? Seems an awful lot of forward players to keep happy? -
It's a very fair point, and I don't disagree at all. BUT, I'm sure it is a lot harder to turn down when it's actually 'on the table' (as it were) right in front of you.

Whilst thinking about what footballers get paid makes me want to cry, specially when you have just found out you are going to be unemployed again in the very near future (anyone hiring?), can you really blame them? Sinclair is what, 22/23 ( I'm not sure and cba to look it up), so roughly my age - I for one would certainly find it very hard to turn down such money, would everyone else not? Same for people like Downing et al not wanting to take wage cuts, yes they probably are over-paid. But, if someone is willing to offer you it, who would really turn it down on principle? The contract offers these young men get in these cases will set them up for life, are probably are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that in reality are probably next to impossible to turn down when put on the table in front of you. It's sad that it has come to that, but, can we really moan when we buy the tickets/shirts/sky packages that fund it all?
-
Seems an odd one this, did Sinclair not learn what happens to young English players at big clubs with wealthy backers? Or from the Adam Johnson situ? He's a decent player, but can't help but think it's only going to be a poor move for the guy. On Downing, for me, no thanks. Doesn't fit with what it appears the management seem to be trying to do. We are clearly trying to build a certain philosophy of players we bring into the club, and Downing does not fit into that. I'm not going to say he is no good, he has played a lot of PL games and earned a fair few England caps (I do wonder whether he would have got so many if her were right-footed & sided). However, as has been mentioned, I do think he is a player with potential never quite fully maximised, and appears to be on the decline as a footballer. Strikes me as more of a West Ham/QPR type signing - I for one, rightly or wrongly, am happy to have Saints not follow that same old route. But hey, what do I know?

My Christ. In my everyday life people tell me I'm prone to being pessimistic and hysterical. Perhaps that is true, but coming on here makes me question whether I have just missed something and this is actually a looney bin? How half the people on here claim to be Southampton supporters baffles me, I swear half of you hate Saints. All you do is b!tch and moan about the club, players, management and every single trivial decision/policy. Two games in, neither have we been battered. I know this isn't how football works and I'm not a huge fan of this attitude, But, on another day Al-Habsi wouldn't have made those saves, jos wouldn't have hit the bar and things would be looking different. On the matter of transfers, attn the tards with zero memory Vitesse said we did nothing, NOTHING, wrong in our dealings with them over Buttner. Sometimes things just don't work out. Ramirez is not an average player, and you morons that say so will be proved wrong in the not too distant future. We have bought in Clyne, who looks to be a class act and future star, and Rodriguez definitely has quality. I'm convinced Davis will be a good acquisition, for a good fee whose settling period has been disrupted by injury and the rangers affair. Clearly somethings haven't worked out, but the usual doom mongers won't consider being sensible or thinking about the football world holistically, but to write saints, or anyone for that matter, off after two games is just pathetic. Man up, and grow up. Of course there have been cb targets, and I am sure NA and NC just as disappointed about this as everyone on here. And yes we have 0 from 2 thus far, welcome to the premier league b1tches, this is what we have worked so hard for (saints as a club, not us ignorant idiots typing on an Internet forum - myself firmly included in this). To think the it was going to be easy in the best league in the country, and one of the best in the world, is just stupidly naive. Things will happen before the window closes, players will come in. We will lose more games, we will get hammered a few times and we will some games. Just chill out and enjoy the ride kids.

Why aren't you manager Alps? You clearly know more than a professional manager and coaching staff? Send us your CV, I'll forward it to the FA, you can take over from Woy when he leaves.

Oi pant-p!sser, maybe given the troubles that have occurred from such public comments extra attempts have been made to keep people quiet?

Can't believe how many people here seem blind to the fact that dozens of transfers every window drag on and on before dying or being completed. Look how long it took Utd to get RVP, Barca to get Cesc, Real to get Ronaldo. Ok they are slightly different types of deals, but still, look at Sunderland trying to get Fletcher, WHU & Jarvis, The whole D. Ba saga, Adebayor to Spurs, the list is HUGE. In comparison, this deal is barely worth noting as a saga at this stage.
-
This thread is getting just a bit silly now. Think we need some news either way for the sake of some peoples sanity. Can't believe the re: the Buttner deal people aren't making more of the whole 3rd party deal pulled at the 11th hour. Was widely reported at the time that SFC had no blame in the deal falling through. Also, DPS - Rangers also said our behaviour in that deal was exemplary. This whole 'not a football man' is a strange one, barring Dave Whelan how many Chairmen/women/CEO's etc are 'football men' - what does that term even actually mean? Is that not also part of L. Reed's job description? To help NC in the recruitment process? The Torres-Carroll fees were a bit of an anomaly really, certainly NFC only got that off LFC due to last min nature of those deals, and the fact LFC got the £50m lump sum for Torres. I swear there were quotes of Llambias basically saying they were taking the mickey? Yes, lump sum fee's do take place (pretty sure C. Ronaldo to Madrid was one £80m payment), but these are usually, the 'glamour' deals - look at the players usually involved Torres, Ronaldo et al.

Maybe you just don't hear about them. I'm always hearing about deals at Everton, Leeds & Palace struggling to get done.
