  1. I would just like to add my thoughts on this if i may. It was a good chant and a lot more original the the usual "HOOOOOF" away fans usually throw at us. It would certainly have wound up some of our older fans who have grown up watching the likes of Brooking and Devonshire etc. However, the last few seasons under Grant and Zola we have been playing some nice stuff but it has been completely toothless and look where it has got us. Big Sam is exactly what our club needed this season. We needed rebuilding from the bottom up and he has certainly instilled a workman like and determined attitude/style in the team. It is generally thought that he is a fairly short term appointment to get us back up and then to keep us up. I imagine the plan is to then install a more attacking, footballing manager (Di Canio?) to add some flair after Sam has laid the groundwork with an organised team that is hard to beat. I personally don't think our football is anywhere near as bad as many make out. We do knock it long but we also have some nice passing spells (the first 15 mins last night for example). I think you play some really good stuff and you move it around quickly and I think you and Swansea are proof that you can get out of this division without resorting to kick bollock and bite methods. COYI.
  2. Yes we (West ham) were the better side in the first 15 minutes because it was 11 vs 11. Once you had the extra man, you of course had the better of the play. We were relieved to finish the game because our players were out on their feet having had to work so hard and if anyone was going to score it was probably going to be you so we were of course, delighted to hear the final whistle. Before the game, I would have been disappointed with a draw but in the end a draw was a great result all things considered. I thought both sets of fans were "ok" last night. We could certainly hear you at times and you were there in good numbers. many of you seem to be commenting that we only have "one song". We do have a song which is very specific to us but I wouldn't say it is all we sing and I would say the banter between the fans probably ended quite even last night. All fans shout "HOOF" at us this season. You are certainly not original in that respect. Our play is a lot more direct than it used to be but is certainly not "stoke like" hoof ball and we do still have our moments with some nice passing moves. I thought your "You used to play football" song was pretty good though and certainly wound up some of our fans! Overall a good game and the result was probably about right. Hopefully see you in the prem next season.
  3. Good Morning Southampton fans. I hope you don’t mind me venturing onto your forum to add my thoughts on last night and our clubs as a whole. I thought it was a good game last night and both sides had their moments. When it was 11 vs 11 I think we certainly had the upper hand. We were knocking it around quite nicely I thought. The penalty situation was very strange. A real bitter sweet moment in getting the penalty but knowing we would only have 10 men for the rest of the match. I'm still a little unsure about the sending off. I originally thought it was a shove in the chest by Taylor although after seeing pictures of him grabbing Sharp's throat I suppose the ref didn't have a lot of choice. I do think Sharp went down very easily and it was all just school boy stuff which i think should have resulted in yellows for both of them. However, as i said, probably had to be a red in the modern game. I think we still held our own for the rest of the first half and matched you and the half time score was probably about right. Second half, as expected, you played it around well and put a lot of pressure on us. It always felt like a goal was coming from you and it was no real surprise when it did although clear cut chances weren’t coming along all that often. We still looked threatening on the break with some nice passing at times. Of course we hoofed it up the pitch plenty – we are an Allardyce team afterall but I think you were also guilty of long ball football occasionally. Green played really well and was one of our best players and made a great double save (i think from Sharp but possibly Lambert). I thought we lost a bit of shape when Cole went off as he had been holding it up well although Maynard certainly looked lively when he came on and was a little unlucky not to score late on. Overall probably the right result. I thought we showed great determination with 10 men but I thought you played some nice stuff and moved the ball around quickly. Not a bad atmosphere in the ground. You had a great turn out and we could certainly hear you at times although your chants of “we forgot that you were here” slightly contradicted the “your not singing anymore” chant! Just one thing I want to ask if you don’t mind. “When the Saints go marching in” is your song. Obviously this is your song and lots of other clubs have stolen it. But the slow version that you sing, who started singing that first – you or spurs? A good night in the end and both sets of fans probably went home quite happy. I hope that we go up and you come with us. You are a club I always want to do well for some reason so hopefully our next meeting will be in the big time.
