  1. This! As a country, we're f@#ked!!
  2. Indeed - the fickleness of fans is well-documented, but having followed your posts for 6-odd years across Europe, Asia and Africa (do I qualify for my Scout's "Stalker's Badge"?! And don't consider the weekend sport's coverage to have finished until I've read your comments), I often think about one of your opening statements when you started this blog, and it remains true today... "The idea of this blog is to go from this point onward. I'm sure I'll delve into the past from time to time but the recent history of the club has been ****e (quite frankly) and I want to leave it behind and besides, I don't want to get sued by Rupert Lowe. Talking about about the recent past is akin to talking about former relationships in that no good can ever come of it." I think we've progressed just a little from then, no? When we're 6th in the premier league, and our biggest complaints are Pelle, Tadic, Mane, etc being out of form, then some of us need to have words with ourselves!!
  3. Excellent report, as always Glen... So much I agree on, not least "Danny "f*cking" Rose"!! And also wish our fans would lay off Pelle 2015....
  4. I see you've managed to get your follicles under a bit of control since I last spoke to you!! I'm great - back in Amsterdam after a few years travelling; life good with you? You disappeared from here for a while? Full of kids nowadays...!!
  5. No, that's Pompeylass.... How are you doing PL? Long time no hear?
  6. Bitterne CofE (is it still there?) Merryoak (definitely gone) Itchen College Newcastle Uni....

Take your missus for lunch at Chartier: http://www.bouillon-chartier.com/en/ Real "old-school" French brasserie with reasonable prices and great food - go early for lunch...
  8. Agree with all you say... It's been a scary few days here; I was planning to got to Westgate Mall last Saturday there is/was a great bookshop on the second floor, but fortunately couldn't be bothered in the end. Apparently there was an SAS guy in one of the coffee shops when it all kicked off; the story is he went back in 12 TIMES and rescued over 100 people - that's bravery...
  9. We've got quite a few here in Nairobi at the mo.!!
  10. How about Totton? Nice bunch of lads down the Keys...
  11. "take this football club to wear it belongings"?? Do these people not have proof readers?
  12. I used to watch the Eredivisie a fair bit (followed Utrecht a bit). Now have moved to Nairobi so am watching a bit of the KPL before deciding which team to follow; AFC Leopards are local and have a great name, but Tusker FC are named after the best beer...
  13. http://www.nation.co.ke/Features/DN2/Man-of-the-moment/-/957860/1915578/-/pvuieoz/-/index.html There's a lot of Wanyama-nia here at the moment...
  14. Well, today in the office has been mad; loads of people coming up and asking about the team, are we buying anyone else, what are the fans like etc... One guy even started singing "Oh When The Saints" in Kiswahili... There will be a lot of interest here.. As mentioned Dennis Oliech is their only other "famous" player (is he at Auxerre?), but has a bit of a "lad" reputation for partying... Apparently Wanyama's mum has a fish shop on Ngong Road which is locally famous - I'll try to get a photo of it to give you some idea of Wanyama's background/upbringing. And no, GBP50 shirts are a no-go; 65% of people here live on less than US$1 per day...
  15. Nice pics Eric! I'm 47, grew up in Soton (Merry Oak School, Itchen College) and have slummed it round the world ever since (Lausanne, Amsterdam, Port Moresby and now Nairobi). Did have a break last 2 years, back home in Totton and Woolston and managed to get to quite a few games on our rise up the leagues (against Forest in the Northam was a good one, Chelsea cup game was the only time I've ever thought about leaving early)... First paying game was probably quite late; think it was a Boxing Day game against Everton or Chelsea and mind-numbingly dull 0-0... Used to have family friends who owned one of the flats overlooking the Archers Road end so saw quite a few matches then in the winter (in the spring the trees blocked the view!)
  16. The Standard - It's the first time the Kenyan media has reported it and it looks genuine with quotes from him... I don't know whether he's over here... The Kenyan press is normally quite dull, but they don't go in for speculation like the English media, so it may be true...
  17. About GBP12m - seems quite genuine as they are talking about how his former clubs (Nairobi City Stars, JMJ Academy and Country Bus) will get a 70 million KES "solidarity fee" "On Saturday Wanyama told the clubs to agree amongst themselves on how to share this fee. (He said) "In my opinion all the three clubs have a right to get part of the transfer money bu they should agree amongst themselves and be honest""... Seems to be on..
  18. According to today's Kenyan papers, he has signed for 1.4 billion Kenyan shillings....
  19. Not a bad beer that, either! Well we get all the Kenyan daily papers in the office and I've checked all the sports pages and not one iota on this; not even "nudge, nudge" speculation and here they're Premier League mad so you'd think the media would have picked up on it, so I'm a little skeptical...
  20. Amen to that Eric! So what DO you miss? When I was in the Netherlands, I used to miss "English" food such as proper bacon, Marmite, lemon marmalade, crisps, etc... But here in Kenya they're all available. It's so much easier nowadays than when I first emigrated (to CH in 1996), with Skype, the interwebby-thing and so on, it's really no effort. Aside from family and a few friends (which I'm in daily contact through FB), I'm struggling to think what I'd change...
  21. Only moved here a few weeks ago! I'll keep an eye out for any news on Wanyama.... Add "From the best mzungu's in the world" to your flag - will make him smile... Not been to Mombassa yet (supposed to be beautiful?) and Ottery, don't know about Kilimanjaro Beer - is that not Tanzanian? Everything here in Nairobi is Tusker Beer...
  22. Strange, here in Nairobi there's no news about this - and obviously Wanyama is their big star... A few weeks back he was being linked with Arsenal...
  23. No - much better to play AFC Leopards here in Nairobi!
  24. Hey Griffo! In Addis? I think that falls under my remit - if I get a trip there, I'll give you a shout; apparently Ethiopian food is excellent? If you hear of any Saints fans in the Nairobi area, then let me know - went out there for a week recently and the Premiership is on TV almost permanently... Unfortunately the locals predictably supported Chelsea, Arsenal and Man U...
  25. Guess I need to change my name... Just been offered a job in Nairobi - anyone know of Saints in the region?
