There's been a ton of rumours about the toxic atmosphere at sporting with a load of players wanting to get rid of their contracts due to feeling unsafe at work after being attacked by fans. One of those who was gonna be leaving for free was bas dost. Been linked with him in the past. At one point they said he was worth 50 odd million but doesn't look like any big clubs are coming in for him. The rumour I saw said he was going to Newcastle. Surely we should be interested in a cheap ex target who's strong and has 61 goals in 61 games for them.

I'm not local to Southampton, I support because of my dad. I started supporting properly in our 1st season in league one. The journey we've non in since then is almost unparalleled in my eyes. Yes it's been up and down but what a journey. Some amazing signing, amazing youth and even the thrill of staying up this season. Most teams who get promotes from the championship get relegated within the next few seasons. Instead we fought to the Europa league multiple times. Yeah we've had some rough times recently but every club in the world has. Don't belittle our incredible achievements over the last 10 years because of one poor season.

In hindsight that's a great thing to say. Might as well not have signed mane because we have sims. Both clasie and Redmond had a lot of potential when they signed for us. I'd also like to point out that Redmond may have had a poor season but towards the end of last season was playing some excellent football. -
I'd actually say the defender I always see messing up is Cedric. Tells a lot when 3 of us think 3 different of our defenders are the ones making the most mistakes.

Sorry mate I was tired, re-read it and it made a lot more sense. -

I really don't understand what you're trying to argue mate. Did your beliefs changes mid typing? -

I think you're 100% right, although spreading payments over multiple years shouldn't be taken into consideration as basically all incoming and outgoings do this, it spreads it all out. I did say that it's basically impossible to work these things out accurately with so many extra fees, clauses, sign on fees, wages, etc. And what I'm not implying led reed or mr gao is literally taking money out of the club. I'm just frustrated, perhaps every other premier league club is reinvesting from player sales and some of the money from the tv rights, merchandising, ticket sales, advertising. I'm fine with our club not running like Chelsea and taking tons of abramovich money. What I can't stand is there is obvious holes here. I worry that this money is going to be spent on refurbishing the area around st marys and will be spent turning our club into more business, less football team. -
These working may not be 100% accurate, there's a lot of variables to take into account like sell on fees and the prices aren't always given accurately but it paints fairly obvious picture. 2017/18 Summer In Mario lemina -15m Hoedt -15 Bednarek -5 Out Jay Rodriguez +12m January In Guido carrillo -20 m Out Vvd +75 m Total +32m profit 2016/17 Summer In Redmond -10m Hojbjerg -12m McCarthy -4m Boufal -16m Out Pelle +13m Wanyama +12m Mane +34m Juanmi +4m January In Gabbiadini -14m Out Fonte +8m Total +15m profit Grand total +£47 million I know some people are intent on believing the money we get from tv rights, tickets, merchandise, food and alcohol etc. Is all 100% reinvested into wages and other costs but if so then how did any team cope before the tv rights skyrocketed. If we assume over the last 2 season's we've also made a £50m profit from those sources then it does seem like someone's pocketed over a quarter of the club's value. As I said please forgive any crude workings out, it's not that easy to take everything in to account.

Which Saints Player would you like to meet for a 10 minute chat?
cobbysouth replied to Mr Dad's topic in The Saints
Wouldn't spend time talking to the players of the team you apparently support, but would waste time moaning about it on a Southampton forum? This is stupid, even for saintsweb. -

Apparently we average the 7th most shots per game of any prem team, around 13. But we only get 3 of them on target per game which I think is the 3rd lowest in the league. But in principle I agree with you. I was more complaining about the idiotic moaners on forums rather than our players. -

They're 3rd bottom and the lowest scorers in the league. The amount of people on that forum not overreacting and slating Gallagher is impressive. Especially when you consider the amount of people on here who insult our entire team in a season where we finish top 10 in the prem. -
Seriously confused and want someone to explain. Beggining of last season we looked like we we're in a panic for goals like this season. Long, jay rod and the usual am's weren't scoring. Austin was the only thing keeping us afloat and was scoring pretty regularly. I know he's injured a lot but a player isn't bad because they're injury prone, don't know where this opinion that Austin is bad came from. If you get him the ball to his feet in the box he scores, that's what he's always done. Problem is no one can get the ball there.
-
For a short stint they both put plenty of and all of our goals away. It's just Austin's was longer ago. We're just not playing a style that suits Austin. Austin needs the ball put to his feet in the box and he'll get it in.

Behave. Last season before his injury and after is not signing a striker he was on quality form for us and without his goals we would be probably lost a ton of points. The way saintsweb works is someone complains, some goon like you reads it and complains escalating the original complaint until people hate him. Austin is a quality footballer, his movement and defensive contribution is lacking but you don't score 15 goals in a premier league season for a relegated team if you're a rubbish footballer.
-
Yes I agree. I'd rather one on our youth players makes the step up and.plays amazing for our team than a really expensive player comes in and flops. Obviously. But that's not how it always runs, Redmond was one if the more exciting youth players on the entire country and look at the slack he gets. Jwp is one of the best graduates we've had in ages and the same. I like 5he youth philosophy but I prefer lots of.points and European football. I'd rather we sign another mane/toby/lovren/vvd/romeu/Bertrand. After all not ALL of our big signings are flops. I like sims, Gallagher and the lot but they need to fight for there place when they're ready bit by bit.
-
I'm not gonna pretend that I actually watched a single game of the u23s or u18s last season. But still something is pretty worrying there with those results and the lack of kids in England youth teams, especially when they keep getting touted as one to watch.
-
Normally I'm all for playing youth players but the last few season's are u23 squad has been relegated and our under 18s have been pretty poor. If these lads can't compete in the under 23 premier league then why can they in the actual premier league. Crystal palace have no points at the moment and have benteke who I'm sure a lot of people on here would love to have. It's a weird one but I'd rather spend with the chance of the player being a flop instead of not spending and it coming back and biting is like the striker last summer and the Cb in the winter window.
-
Nope, you're putting words into my mouth. I think we should play 442 or 4312. Drop Davis back to a cm position and leave the attacking for 1 of boufal or tadic and our 2 strikers. Sd 167 games 9 goals Redmond 39 games 7 goals Tadic 101 games 15 goals That's 307 games 31 goals. A goal in every 10 games So 3 of our attackers are gonna score 3.8 goals this season. I know statistics aren't exactly like that but it's a real worry. Something needs to change.
-
Tadic made 2 great passes in the 1st half and he's being slammed. Both of those passes happened to go to Steven Davis and he wasted both chances. He's a cm but is too slow and wasteful in attack to be leading us as an am. Last game he was really poor and I'm saying that as a fan of his. The fact of the matter is Davis and jwp both don't get enough goals and assists to be taking up an attacking space in our team when we're in an awful goal drought.
-
Tadic created 2 excellent scoring chances in the first half. Unfortunately the both fell to Steven Davis who, for all his merits, is not who you want as the player attempting to put away your chances.
-
Yeah but there's a difference between saying the young lad wouldn't get into a top 8 for 4 season's bpl side consistently and calling one of last season's fairly good first team players rubbish and saying he doesn't get football. Don't know if these people support other teams, don't watch saint's play or are just trying to wind people up.
-
If you think no one wants ward prowse then you're a moron. A young English midfielder with an England cap and over 100 prem appearances. Just because you don't hear about clubs with 30+ million offers doesn't mean people don't want him. This forum...
-
I agree with him. Hes had bundles of talent his whole career. The problem was he wasn't a cdm or cam and that's how we set up our midfield. He didn't seem to fit in anywhere, last season he came on in leaps and bounds. Him, Redmond and tadic as attacking players looked excellent when our defence began to crumble. I can understand complaining about our players and I can understand being wrong but doing both at the same time makes you look like a Pillock or a skate...
