I actually think all that might be possible...if, and only if we get some momentum going by winning at least 4 out of the 5 games we have in the next fortnight. What better way to launch that momentum than a win at a team who've won their last 11 consecutive home games?

So what you're saying is, ignore 66 out of 90 minutes-give no praise to any of the success shown in that period, and focus only only on the negatives to use that as the sole motivator to your reaction. Whatever floats your boat I guess

MK Dons Build Up Thread - It's a sell-out, folks!
madruss replied to Saintjersey's topic in The Saints
Because it's a funny old game that's why!! Stupid funny old game...we drew with Torquay (after 90 minutes) in this competition when the odds were against that result. Who knows what'll happen tonight...hopefully it'll be the predictable outcome -
Why's everyone talking like the league season is over already? If this crap had been spouted in December during our winning run getting to within 7 points of the playoffs, it wouldn't have had any merit whatsoever. Yet after a bad run of form (yes we can all agree it's been that), suddenly the season's over and the next 18 games count for nothing? There's a fair few teams that have gone on bad runs recently, Leeds included. Unfortunately our bad run means our league position isn't great, due equally to the -10 and a poor start to the season. But surely if we can judge 5 bad consecutive games so conclusively, we can't also dismiss the forthcoming 18 games as irrelevant. Can anyone honestly say we won't go on another winning run, playing against the teams we beat on our last winning run? Yes the performances aren't great at the minute, but teams go out of form sometimes...it doesn't make them bad teams overnight. We're a long way off the playoffs but there's a lot of games in quick succession in February and early March and 5 or 6 wins on the spin could change the complexion of the table completely. Yes the players and manager will have to get their act together, but it's not the impossibility some of the doom-mongerers are making it out to be. Anyone saying it's been a "poor season" with over a third of the season still left to play is either a gifted psychic or a morose quitter.

In December I definitely remember we were less than 10 points off 5th at one point. In fact the league table on 31 December has us in 6th without the 10 point deduction. http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/D2/todec.html There's 18 games to go. 10 of those are at home, and one thing we can all agree on is that (even recently) our home form has been superb (100% in January and December!) If we continue winning at home and drawing away we'll end up on 72 points, might not be enough. But if our form improves above what it currently is (which is not an impossibility), then we might even creep up to the 76-78 point mark. Until that's impossible, I for one won't give up

Quite right. Also 2 defeats in 26 games, when in the last two seasons we've been losing the majority of our games. I'd say shaking off that losing habit is definitely a sign of progress

V. Disappointing. But we have a chance to erase the disappointment of this result by beating Norwich away on the 20th. (A game where a draw would've been the expected result). It's not over yet, but the job's been made a lot harder by today's result

It's May??? What the f_uck? I can't believe I slept through February, March and April again go on then, who went up automatically? Who won the playoffs? Who won the JPT? Did we beat the Skates?

Did Norwich or Colchester come within weeks of going out of existence completely?? No, didn't think so. Don't underestimate the effect of such severe off-field events on a club.

Puncheon Signs 3 1/2 Yr Contract at Saints
madruss replied to Somewhere In Northam's topic in The Saints
What a brilliant signing! When was the last time we had a left footed pacy, skilful, goal scoring winger in our squad?? I reckon he'll bring excellent balance to the side and hopefully be the sort of player to carve out the sort of chances that our free scoring strikers thrive on. 60 points still up for grabs. Bring on the playoff push!! -
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/saints/news/831640.Saints_closing_in_on_Skacel/ Looks promising!

Only one more 'hard place to go' to go though. And that's Norwich don't you know. 9 away games left, 24 points no problem
-
Disappointing. Similar pattern to the Millwall game, losing a CM early seemed to affect us. Perhaps would've been different if one of the two chances that hit the woodwork had gone in first half. Playoffs getting harder to reach with every point dropped. Need to hope Huddersfield start dropping points as Swindon are pulling away nicely now

what value did you give Wotton just out of interest?

GTFI!!!!!!! -
Plus we've still got Connolly and Hammond to return! Quality indeed!!

+1 Great side

Hahahahaha!!! Nice.

I'd quite like to see Gobern given a run-out in the centre, he looked quite useful there when he was played there by the dutch jokers
-
Good call. Almost everyone who saw Alan Bennett's debut wrote him off after the game, yet he turned out alright

Pre match Manager interview on Saints player
madruss replied to Matthew Le God's topic in The Saints
God, what a ridiculous waste of money that player is. He's probably on the highest wage, and yet contributes absolutely nothing. I can only guess that he's got some kind of appearance bonus tied in to his contract, he's surely a better option on the bench than an unfit, Connolly who AP doesn't want to risk?? -
Agreed. Plus home wins against Swindon and Huddersfield are absolutely vital. It's finely balanced, but I reckon we'll get there. A lot will depend on how many games Connolly can play, and whether we sign another quality attacking midfield player
-
A superb piece of perspective. Particularly bearing in mind that the 3 'blips' happened at three of the toughest grounds to visit in the league. 21 games to go, and only one of those away games (Norwich) will be anywhere near as tough as those

Millwall at home = Better team than Hartlepool, Walsall...etc at home. We have no more 'right' to beat Millwall at the new Den than any of the other 11 out of 12 teams who've gone there this season and not beaten them
