Saints v. West Ham February 1967 - more than 30,000 supporters, gates shut early. Went on to thrash West Ham 6-2 with 2 penalties from Paine and goals from Davies and Chivers. Lasting memory of Budgie Byrne, former England centre-forward, coming on as a sub, looking old and tubby, and being mocked by the crowd.

I remember watching his leg crumble as he stood back awkwardly

Kelvin's the comedy keeper, was rubbish last time in the top flight, and didn't look any better this time. At least Gazza can improve.

It does look like we are poor when on the back foot, as we will often be when away from home. When we sat back against United, we invited pressure. Going forward we look fine, so we have got to go for it at home and not lose confidence or get picked off by giving too much respect to teams like Wigan. Big learning curve for the players, but it needs to happen quickly so we are not cast adrift.

Billy Sharp - Joins Notts Forest on Season Long Loan

Yes good player, worth the money for helping get us up -
Good news - hope to see him perform well in a number of games at the highest level, just as he's done before
-
3 wins and West Ham would need 5!
-
Saints 2-0 I hope with Guly strolling in a couple

Beefheart responded to Bono's collaboration request with the note: "Dear Bongo. No."

Aren't Ipswich the only team Forest have scored against since November? Just need to be geared up for shooting
-
At least we appealed successfully - now just got to give him the confidence to perform in a different set up
-
Those commentaries are either hilarious or annoying in equal measures - they never know how much additional time there is, forget to tell us who has got the ball, get Guly confused with Connelly, or Lambert with De Ridder. It's all a shambles, but when the game is OK they are fine enough.
-
Sadly we have been through this all before with Marians Pahars who eventually did get in after appeal and numerous others that didn't. they agree personal terms, fees between the clubs and then they try to get the permit. He hasn't played enough internationals over the last 2 years to play in the UK unless he gets some kind of special dispensation, usually only reserved for Man U, Arsenal or other gig clubs, not the likes of us.
-
Work permit rules says picked in 75% of the games he was available for over last 2 years. He has 10 caps in 2011, so he looks a bit short of qualification to me.

Challenging 2nd half of the season to come, but just need a few more away wins. Shame about the Morgan booking, would have been better to take him off earlier.

1-0 Skates, it will take a lot to overturn our inability to dominate away from home

Saints V Blackpool Match Thread and Reaction

Guess it's difficult to come in and play great after 2 years out, but he always looks a bit fragile when he starts. Didn't close them down enough and 3 cm's still doesn't look right. -
When he hit the post, the other 21 players looked at him as if they were saying "what the hell are you doing?"
-
complete new spine required if we are going to survive in the Premiership. Probably worth spending more on the defence because we always seem to concede soft goals.
-
8.12.81 Southampton 0 Brighton 2 just as we were poised to go top of Division 1 for the first time ever. We have to make sure of this one.
-
SDR does seem to have a tendency for needless bookings. Just wonder if he'd stay on if attempting to play a full 90 minutes. We are short of striker options, could really do with another 2 on the bench. Roll on January with us still in the lead!
-
Would have helped if they had marked Kenny Miller properly. Unforgiveable to give a lone striker 2 golden chances
-
Schneiderlin in as holding midfielder as we gave Burnley far too much opportunity to play, can change again for next Saturday's home game
-
Didn't get going soon enough, so quite fortunate
