"Do you continue to put yourself through the physical pain of pushing a shattered joint, adding to the mental toil of doing so for three years with no reward? Or finally call it a day and throw away any lingering chance, however small, of resurrecting your career with the club you love?" So sad for Sam, get your coaching badges, we're bound to need a new manager once Ralph has got us into the top 8 and a cup final. Forever Saint.

Really sad news, such a shame. The pictures of Sam training alone are quite the opposite of what we normally see week in week out and are startlingly moving. Sure to get a standing ovation every time at St Marys. Wish him all the best for the future. Once a Saint, always a Saint.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Not going to criticise as that was an excellent point in the circumstances, especially after the West Ham win. Like having Perraud on the left and KWP on the right, thought we had more balance overall. A. Armstrong was great both offensively and covering at the back. Thought Redmond was also good with the defensive duties when he came on. The last 10 minutes were a nightmare to watch in terms of stress, but very happy with the point as we nearly always get nothing from Spurts.

Have read lots of opinions on here over the years, post occasionally when something takes my fancy or if I'm feeling funny (eeeh, the mother-in-law!, Actually the mother-in-law jokes are rubbish. My mother-in-law is ace!) Today highlights why it's the best being a Saints fan...and more controversially, why Ralph is the best manager for us right now. We NEVER beat West Ham, never, but when we do, it means something to us. Ralph is not the best manager but he is the right manager for us. He understands the fans, he understands the club and is one of us, I feel he knows the history, the ups and downs and wants to be a part of that. I personally have not felt a connection with the club/manager since Ronald, we are a great club and feel we are the best. Sometimes, it's not about winning everything, sometimes it's about living and enjoying...and do I enjoy Southampton and Southampton FC! Southerners, Southerners, Southerners...from a guy in the Midlands (orig. Winchester). Stay safe folks.

Stuart's hair was a bit lacklustre tonight I thought.

So, back at the hotel after what can only be described as a great night (thank you Rockstone & Black Phoenix). First half was great, the best we've played that I can remember seeing us since the Promotion seasons. 2nd half was tighter but to be honest, Villa never looked like scoring. The big problem I have is the faff with throw ins, corners and free kicks. We....are....so....slow....at....taking....yawn.... I've bored myself now. Just hurry it up. Once they are in position, you are unlikely to score. Get on with it. Rather 2-0 than watching you lot handing a ball back and forth to build up 7 mins of injury time. Anyway, it's a win and it was FANTASTIC to be back at St Mary's again...and the brass band at the front of the stadium and along the pitch were brilliant. 😁 P.S. Rom was superb, a few loose passes but a proper midfield performance for the team. 🌟

Aye, the overhead kick game on The Big Match live. As others have said, unusual to have a live game shown in those days. I was leaning towards supporting Liverpool at the time (impressionable youth) so that match had a massive impact on me and my life since, thank goodness Saints won as I would hate to be a bin dipper, hard to imagine not supporting Saints.

First game back at St Mary's since the Newcastle loss back in 2020 in the old times. Cannot wait. Like most, my first taste of Saints and the game that got me hooked was the Friday night 2-0 on TV back in 83/84. Was around 9 and have supported Saints ever since, despite moving up to Nottingham in 85. Once you're in, you're in for good.

How many 'best in the worlds' have we had?

Niemi in his hey day? -
Was at the game and whilst both centre backs did make mistakes, I also thought they did some excellent covering. Both Salisu and Lyanco had moments where they spotted danger and read the pass to get there before the Sheff Utd player. Not great games from either in terms of defending but not as bad as some people are making out. Both also started attack build ups and weren't afraid to venture forward at times. Perraud was the stand out defender on the left though, had a decent game.
-
Not a great game, Sheff Utd knocked us off our stride with the early goal, credit to the players for pulling it back and taking the lead. Frustrating that their 2nd came from a mistake as we looked good at that point. Adams injected decent threat when he came on, should've been 10 minutes earlier. Djenepo had a decent game in terms of effort but relies on luck more than skill. JWP also added quality to the midfield when on. Lyanco and Salisu both showed good awareness at times and some decent covering but also both made mistakes. Not a great match but pleased to have gone through

Our tickets have arrived this morning. Woo hoo! We shall go to the (foot)ball. 😁
-
Will see if they arrive tomorrow and if not will call the ticket office in the afternoon.
-
Has anyone received their tickets yet? Still waiting for ours. Bought them last Wednesday.
-
Same here, will travel from Nottingham for this one. Can't be as bad as the Koeman game can it?
-
These always make me laugh. "Sorry, I thought you were Phil Tufnell!" 😁

The times I've watched/seen live Lemina play, he has looked a cut above. Was at West Brom for his stunner in the 3-2 during the Pellegrino season. Always liked him and thought he would be a stunning signing for us. Such a shame it's not worked.

Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
CylonKing replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Needs to grow his hair long again. Our best players have had the longest hair: Glen Cotterill, Jannik when he joined joined and, of course, Alexander Ostlund. Jesus is our right back, Jesus is our right back!😁 -
Only watched the highlights, decent chances for us but lucky to only be 1 down at half time. Did think Mane was climbing over KWP for the goal though, holding him down.
-
Also, how the f*ck have the Prem messed up VAR so much. With so many examples that work out there and how easy it should be to make the right decisions, the 'officials' have still made it impossible for the right decisions to be made. The best time I've had at football in last 2 years is a 0-0 draw at Gainsborough Trinity. Well contested match and a shit load of beer. What a Saturday afternoon.
-
Just watched the 'highlights' and that was never...never a red card. Not even a yellow. Lost control but pushed the ball away to the keeper. If that is not recinded, we may as well let the Shit League... sorry...Super League take over and just move to supporting non-league teams, which is not unappealing to be honest.
-
Atrocious! Really poor. Our passing was abysmal and never really troubled them. Very disappointing.
-
P.S. Yes... slightly drunk. 😉

So, just watched the MoTD highlights. Very comfortable, more so than Adam and Dave made it sound live. Adams looked superb, what a player we've got there. Forster, you know what, I wish him the best and hope he becomes the next Shilton or Niemi for us because...I love him. He has been nothing but professional for us and deserves our respect and support. I truly think we have 2 of the 3 best English keepers in Alex & Fraser, we as Saints fans, are a privileged bunch with the players we get to support. Special mention to Bednerak who is the new M.Svensson, what a player! I want to highlight something that is important to me, and most of you, I'm proud of the way our club has behaved and conducted themselves throughout these difficult times. Straight talk, common sense and us, just being Saints...the greatest football club in the world!
