I have managed to fix this once a long time ago using windows recovery. It went something like this: The Windows 2000 and Windows XP CDs supplied by Microsoft have a tool called the Recovery Console which can be used to repair errors that prevent Windows XP from starting using the command line. OEM versions of Windows XP, including computers that were supplied with Windows XP preinstalled, may not have this utility, so the following steps may not work: Insert the Windows CD and start the computer. When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R. Type a number corresponding to the Windows installation you wish to repair (usually 1) and press Enter. Depends what you want to do with it. Basically a whole host of attractions, restaurants etc that you can use to show the taxi drivers where you want to go.

Depends which one and what you want to use it for. As baj says - no CD can be a pain if you buy software, although you can get around it by creating iso files of CD's. If its just for internet/email etc then they are great. If you want to be able to run XP with memory intensive apps then steer clear. If you do decide to get one just for internet and email then go for one with Linux installed - cheaper and faster, although might add a learning experience for you if you want to add stuff. The eePC OS Linpus gets ok reviews and you can always install ubuntu or something on instead - saves a few quid.

have you checked the temperature of the machine? CPU over heating is a common cause of machines just shutting down. Best bet is to open up the case and check that there is not a build up of dust on the processor and fans etc. If there is then a blast of compressed air will help. If you dont have any compressed air then a very gentle vac will do the trick too - just not at full sucking power!

hmmm - had no issues on my laptop - although it always depends on your adapter. Netgears tend to be a bit of a bugger.

did you not download the Kubuntu version then?

depends on your adapter but everything was plug and play for me - apart from the external monitor but thats always a problem with my ATI card.

ok thats good then, did you try a grub fix to see if you can actually access the install? You probably can restore the kernel with the livecd but it may not be that simple. You may well have overwritten all sorts of bits and pieces which will seriously affect your system. If you have been able to back up your files and folders then I would suggest reinstalling from scratch - if you do that go the whole hog and download the intrepid ibex release. If you have a usb memory stick with 2GB or more I would recommend installing ubuntu to it too - then you have a quicker method of running the live cd and infact its very easy to install a persistent image now too so all changes are saved. You can try fixing grub to see if you can at least get into Ubuntu of some description. You may then be able to use Synaptics to install the latest version of Ubuntu - Intrepid, or recover back to Hardy. Take a look here - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=224351

depends where you use it. If you are at home then no charge - if you are at an internet cafe then its no different than using a laptop. If you are at starbucks then its also free. ipod touch has no voice or mobile data built in so you can only use wifi. If you have an iphone then you can use mobile data but you will be charged according to your contract with your service provider

I bought one last week at the airport so got a 16GB one for about £30 quid less than normal retail. If you just want music then you are better off with the 120GB Ipod classic - just over £1 per GB whereas the touch is more like £11 per GB but as Essruu says you get a whole lot more with the touch. Wifi is very good - connects very quickly and is very stable. The accelerometer works very well - that's the bit that allows you to turn the touch 90 degrees and the screen image moves with it. The image quality is pretty good for video - you probably wouldn't want to watch for too long as its a bit of a strain after a while but its no different to any other portable media player. The app store is great - there are tons of free apps as well as stuff you can buy. I have a couple of the free ones - Remote allows you to control itunes on your pc from the touch via a wireless network - pretty cool. I also use a translator as I travel a lot - useful here in China where I am writing this. So far I can find no fault with it and I have resisted Apple products before. I always saw them as design over function, and a some of their stuff still is that way. All in all - if you can afford it get one. I have read reviews on the Archos players and it seems that there is a big issue with support on them - no such issue with the iPod touch.

You need to remember that this isn't the 'Google Phone'. It is an HTC phone with the Google Android OS on it. Everyone seems to go about comparing the phone to the iphone. The big thing here is the OS - it adheres (kinda) to open standards, and it is going to be an extremely flexible and popular system for manufacturers to use. The problem as I see it it its current interoperability with MS docs/exchange/lotus etc rendering pretty useless for the corporate market. Lets see what other phones appear - not that i expect too many as Nokia have symbian, SE have their OS and Blackberry use RIM - none of them will take this up so its only independent OS competitor is Microsoft
