End of an era - last space shuttle landing live:
mdearlove replied to mdearlove's topic in The Lounge
Shame it landed in the dark - no choice but would have been nice to see it in the daylight. -

If anyone wants an invite to Google+ - let me know. I can't PM so send an email to mark dot dearlove at gmail.com if you want me to add you. First impressions are pretty good although its hard to gauge with such limited numbers of users right now. The video conferencing abilities are pretty good as are the 'Circles' which allow you just to post pics/statuses etc to certain groups of "Friends". Sort of a cross between Facebook and Twitter plus a few unique things too.

Can anyone suggest a tool for reorganising and sorting my Film rip collection? I have a ton of files dumped in a folder but I want to sort them into folders by genre/year etc

Block BT from seeing that you're downloading torrents?
mdearlove replied to thesaint sfc's topic in Technology Chat
TBF if you use a decent NZB site then you can see which are the best files to grab on newsgroups - NZBMatrix shows the total number of downloads, along with comments from people who have downloaded. I expect Newzbin does the same. Don't think there is anything you can do to stop BT seeing the P2P - only to block them from seeing which files you are downloading using ssl. -
http://tomsfield.com/ Small site near Fordingbridge. Walking distance to a pub and plenty of walking around. Owners are very nice and have fresh eggs and other food every morning. Its not a luxury site but in the top 50 in the UK according to the Guardian.

but before that I have to head to Bangalore, India on Saturday, back for a few days then off to Seoul for week. Both on business unfortunately.

off to the USA for the whole of August. 1 Week in Dallas, 2 in Orlando, 1 in Miami. Kids are looking forward to the 2 weeks at Disney!

Mods might want to move this to the Technology forum. http://www.zyra.org.uk/kbytes.htm The memory size is the important bit when you are looking at speed. If you give us an idea of what you want to do then we can give some recommendations. The numbers you quote are more to do with storage capacity, not speed. Memory will be anywhere between 2GB and 16GB these days. Hard disk capacity for storing files will go from around 250GB upwards. I just ordered a 2TB drive for my home media server. This could hold around 570000 music files of average size and quality, or 400-500 hours of standard definition video, 180-200 hours of HD video.

I sent it to Matt Slater at the BBC who was digging into it last night to see if he could make it stand up

+1 on the San Francisco. Got one for my daughter for £80 quid after quidco cashback from Orange. Easily unlocked for use on other networks. My wife has the original Wildfire and I would rate the San Francisco better than the Wildfire

Just moved into a rented property with a huge garden - most of it is overgrown but I have managed to clear a section - got some peas, carrots, french beans and sunflowers in the ground - also some tomatoes, peppers, broccoli and courgettes under cover although they will come out over the weekend. Trouble is its so dry and we are now on a water meter so can't really water daily. Got 3 water butts set up so hopefully we will get a good downpour and they will fill up.

No credit/debit cards will be charged until tomorrow at the earliest. If you sent a cheque then they have been processed according to James Pearce from the Beeb

Yellow - intending to clear the ball by the looks of it - not to pummel the guys head with his foot

I like this one myself: 22,160 - Southampton had the highest average attendance with over 4,000 more than second placed Sheffield Wednesday

Bit late for you but - Tocqueville was excellent when we went a few years ago - not sure what the more recent reviews are like. Food was outstanding and it had a great Maitre d' and a good atmosphere.

2 best meals I have had: Bastide St Antoine in Grasse, France. Stunning food, location, wine, service. Restaurant Nathan Outlaw, Rock (previously in Fowey) Cornwall. If you like fish, this is the place to go. Rated best seafood restaurant in the UK and won Restaurateurs restaurant of the year last year. Food is stunning. I am lucky that I travel a lot with my job so have eaten at some amazing places - but these two are the standouts. Closely behind is Tocqueville in NYC

Rockplayer should help - it plays most formats I have come across
