They should introduce a competition especially for the national cup winners in each country, instead of having them in the Europa. They could call it the European Cup Winners Cup or something. Then they should have another for past winners of that and call it the European Cup Winners Cup Winners Cup. In other words, who cares?

I think after last season everyone thinks he deserves a chance. The problem is that because he's a relatively uninspiring choice of manager given his record over the years - steady but we're not going to win anything, and probably not make Europe, sacked by Stoke last season - people will turn against him more quickly than they otherwise would. He's probably a better bet up front than several of our other options though.

Doesn't look like any changes for this season from last, our first game is on the NBC Sports Gold online thing on Sunday as NBCSN are showing Liverhampton at the same time. In the end last season was generally ok as a cord-cutter but occasionally a pain - having Sling (outside a metro area) and the Gold thing I could get anything on NBCSN along with Gold, but whenever we were on NBC itself (which we were once or twice) there was nothing to be done and so turned to Solent/official site, and once we were on CNBC so I had to subscribe to the Sling News plus thing for a month, which actually was ok, because of Sling being flexible and cheap. The fact we were unutterably crud for most of the year probably helped make me not care so much if I missed the odd game. In the Poch years it was much more fun... I did read a review of the changes to NBC's coverage last year and it said the NBC Sports Gold coverage really would only be for hardened followers of specific lower-table teams. Which we are, or were last year (I presume we'll win the league this year). So maybe it's only an annoyance for a few of whom we happen to be a part. But I still think full, wide availability - both online and on cable - is what they need to do to build the audience. Saturday morning is an open slot for TV sports fans here.

After a day like today it's hard to say what's going to happen.. logically now you'd think Sky or Dumoulin but with Froome and Dumoulin having gone nuts in Italy not long ago and with G being one of those guys who can never quite seem to last 3 weeks, I wonder if it's a lot more open than it looks. At least I hope it is. Although if G won it would be nice for him.

I'm assuming Stephens is cover although I've not read anything about it, just seems to make sense in terms of backup. If Valery makes big strides this year (figuratively not literally) (although that might help too) then that's great and maybe then we have a succession plan in place for when Cedric finally gets too old and goes to join west ham or something.

Would think JWP if we're talking 1st team debuts also. I think he played prior to promotion, maybe just in a cup game. But also our first prem game (which would have been first opportunity for Davis or Yoshida) I recall Adkins started with JWP in midfield.

After 3 goals in 2 games surely he has to play up front.

What did he think of Hoddle coming in to replace Dave Jones? What did the team make of that move?

I was thinking about this. If every man has a price, what's his? if nothing else we can show we're a proven stepping-stone club... if you do well of course... how much would it take to get him? Not that I really hold out any hope of getting rid of the current manager any time soon :-(
