Actually I think one thing that came out of our time in the top 4 was that there was a feeling these players would probably move anyway. It's convenient for players moving to The Big Clubs if that club is in the CL that year because it gives them something to say other than 'it's for the money'. Us finishing that high would still see them leave but at least they would have to admit the actual truth: it's for the money, and that's where we're not competing with The Big Clubs. Am I too cynical?

With Elia, Mane, Tadic and Djuricic I'm starting to wonder if Davis might be the odd one out more often now.

I hadn't thought about that parallel before but it is interesting how Gaston started bright yet is now regarded as waste of money, even though he still got a few goals and assists even last season. Tadic stats might be similar, not sure, but the impression we're getting is a little similar.

We should keep him. Make him train on his own for a year. He could have occasional meetings with club officials to pass him bread and water. Then we review and see if he's willing to say sorry to the club captain. If not, another year.

We do need a striker but given we have several experienced strikers not playing for us one way or another (Osvaldo, Rodriguez, Long, Gallagher) it's a shame to think we have five strikers and only one can play right now. Not sure there's a point here, just seems crazy that 3 are out injured and the other one is in exile.

Just as well we're out of the cup. Every game was costing us major injuries, Wanyama and now this.

Didn't Les Reed say something sometime about how it was a case of using loans in certain circumstances, depending on the player, the team being loaned to etc. Trying to figure out a way Stephens and Turnbull could still have a future at the club since they've not been with us for a while. Or are they just in the shop window?

As I recall it had something to do with buying Billy Sharp to stop other people having him, then having Danny Fox, Jos, Connolly, Hammond and the bald one who wasn't Chris Marsden all being a bit rubbish but Kelvin having a good game away at Leeds and West Ham bottling it and only making the playoffs. And Steve De Ridder of course. And beating some team 4-0 at the end on the Gabby Logan show. And that Llama bloke too. I don't know really. Seems a long time ago.

Really enjoyed that. Nothing new or earth-shattering in there at all, but thinking that this was being watched by people in the US who are just getting into this soccer thing and the EPL in particular... reflected on us really well I thought. That said, it was on against the Rose Bowl game so I guess we have to hope they all use DVR or whatever NBC have instead of iPlayer. But still, considering there could have been nothing about us at all, it was exceptional to have it on.

Give the traffic discussion that always ensues with the 'why do people leave before the end' thing, I wonder if the Powers On High think that expanding St Mary's is the long term answer. Or if somewhere on the edge of town might one day make it back on to the agenda.
