A few people have mentioned Prutton in 2005. Not excusing was Prutton did by any means, but we were in the middle of a relegation battle. He lost it because he cared about the club. As has been said, looking at Saturday (and the end of last season) we don't need him. It's a shame to lose a good player but the £12m + £3m will somehow soothe our wounds

I've accepted that he may be going, but I feel that £12m (and a hefty sell-on no doubt) is fair. I don't feel that we missed him on Saturday, and provided that we spend at least some of the initial fee on players then I have to admit that this is a good move. Never like the idea of being a 'selling club' but don't feel like we are being shafted this time.

I heard a bit of 'You dirty skate bastards' near the end of the match but not throughout. If ever there was a time to sing this, it's when we're 3-0 up on the first match of the season against Leeds.

My opinion (please forgive if it's stating the bleeding obvious): There is a lot of talent out there. Clubs are looking globally, the talent pool is widening, players whose level may once have guaranteed a Premiership club with silly wages are now looking more like Championship level with (usually) sensible wages. Plus I think boardrooms are finally realising that an excessive wage bill can threaten to destroy a club, especially in the 'current economic climate'.

I think the 'real chance' refers to us staying up, not promotion. Newly promoted teams will always be thought to be relegation cannon-fodder by sports writers who do far too little research, especially in the Football League.
