  1. It's the fact that we have to do all this stuff in order to compete in the first place that annoys me. How did we make big signings in the 80s? We had Keegan, Shilton, Ball etc., but the Dell never got renamed The Co-operative Banking Corporation Arena or whatever horrible name St. Mary's will get in the future. Fans didn't have to pay £50 a ticket, which is what it will be when we get promoted. Fans didn't have to pay to take a ****. A pint didn't cost £3.70. We competed perfectly well whilst maintaining affordable prices and a community atmosphere. But it's this "I don't care about the club, I just want trophies" attitude that's led to football clubs becoming soulless corporate businesses willing to fleece fans, or 'consumers', for as much cash as they can get their hands on, and as long as fans continue taking your attitude it will only get worse. How long will it be before clubs are renamed to 'Tesco FC' or 'Asda Athletic', with their colours changed to company colours, and ticket prices pushed to £100+ to keep the peasants out?
  2. The amount of snarky, nasty, sarcastic, arrogant nobheads that frequent this forum.

    Going up?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UEFA_coefficient Scroll down to the league section. It is officially the best league in the world by quite some distance. I really can't tell if you lot are serious with all this "I don't want promotion" lark. Personally I think the aim of any club should be to climb as high as possible. Yes, the money in the Premier League is out of control. Yes, there's a lot of cheating and diving. But I'd happily take that if it means seeing some of the best players and biggest clubs in the world play at St Mary's week in week out.
  4. My god you lot are boring. We're five points clear at the top of the league and playing some of the best football Southampton has ever seen, yet you're moaning on an Internet forum about a few fun, light-hearted chants. Get a life you miserable old man.
  5. So why did you say "Spoilt greedy slack-jawed to55ers, who got their ultimate comeupppance in South Africa, watching the Germans run rings round them", as if it was good defeating evil? I understand that some such as Cole have brought accusations of greediness upon themselves, but most opinions on the character of a footballer are based around conjecture, i.e. you read something about them in the paper, join the dots and come to the conclusion that they're squeezing money out of a club without knowing the full facts. I don't judge players because I don't trust a word of what the tabloids say. You say you know tabloids lie but almost every judgement you make on a player, Cole excluded, will be made off of some tabloid rumour. Papers like The Sun and The Mirror are very bias against footballers. For example, did you know that the whole England team donates their international match fees to charity? Probably not, because papers don't report stuff like that. As for footballers being stupid - some are, some aren't. The thing is, most of them are just exceedingly dull and unenthusiastic and cliché-ridden in the way they talk. This is simply lack of character as opposed to stupidity.
  6. I can sort of understand the hate for Cole and Terry, although it's still profoundly stupid to judge them on one or two actions. However I simply cannot fathom the raging, ferocious, frothing-at-the-mouth hatred people hold for Wayne Rooney. What's he done that's so terrible apart from being ugly and sleeping with a prozzie? Do players' sex lives really bother you that much? Why in the world do you think it's any of your business? I must say I find this fascination with players' personal lives completely bizarre and quite disturbing. How would you feel if a load of random strangers told you they hated your guts because you cheated on your wife/girlfriend? Get a life.
  7. It does make me laugh how so many fans make such harsh accusations against people whom they've never even met. How could you possibly know that they're "spoilt greedy slack-jawed to55ers"? Oh that's right, they're rich English footballers. It's a well known fact that the instant someone becomes a rich English footballer, they also become greedy and big-headed and stupid. But of course, this phenomenon only affects England. Players who play for the likes of Spain and Germany are down to earth and as good as gold. This is all true because The Sun says so, and papers never lie. Here's an idea for all of you: stop reading lying, bias, footballer-demonising tabloids, stop being such a bitter, jealous little men, stop judging innocent strangers, stop over-reacting to poor performances and support your national team. Capiche?
  8. Christ. What on earth is wrong with the people on this forum? Call me crazy, but maybe, just maybe, Gorkss rejected us and chose Reading instead because he preferred their offer, or he preferred the club itself? And perhaps Fontaine failed his medical because he simply wasn't fit? Is it really that hard to get your head around? This sort of stuff happens every day. That's how it is. You win some, you lose some. Why resort to all this ridiculous, outlandish conjecture on every little thing that happens, or might have happened, or is rumoured to have happened? Get a grip.
  9. You said Brighton had 'cultural links' with London. I assumed you were referring to all the South Londoners who migrated to Brighton a few decades ago. Then I forgot that I was the one who made the link between the two and thought you said it yourself. Blonde moment. Never mind. That must have confused the hell out of you, haha. I'm not "myth-making", I just thought it would be accepted that two nearby cities involved in the same industry would have history together. I've read a few things about it, and I'm sure you could quite easily find evidence if you Google 'Southampton Portsmouth history' or something. Yes, most rivalries are geographic, but I didn't take that into account as Brighton is in East Sussex and Crystal Palace is in South London. They're 50 miles apart. They're not the closest teams to each other as there's plenty of other teams in South London and plenty of others in Sussex. And I can't think of any well known rivalries in Britain based purely on football, apart from supposedly Brighton-Palace. That's why it's strange. It is unusual for a Saints fan to hate other clubs more than Pompey tbf. And the reasons for your hated clubs aren't exactly logical! Stoke are 20 years older than us so technically we wear their kit. It is annoying that they keep singing OWTS though. Everton... I guess that kind of makes sense. I don't see a reason to hate a club for what they did 30 years ago, but each to their own. I can't say I hate any club apart from Pompey. Anyway, like I said, the Palace-Brighton rivalry is doubted by pretty much everyone who's not involved in it. That's enough to invalidate it in my eyes. If it has to be proven then it's not proper.
  10. Look, outside of football there is no history of animosity between Brighton and Croydon. Yes Brighton took in a lot of London migrants. So did Portsmouth and Peterborough. Doesn't mean they're suddenly gonna start hating West Ham or whoever. We have a lot of Polish immigrants. Doesn't mean we're going to randomly start a rivalry with Legia Warsaw. And the fact that you think rivalries are determined by on pitch relations proves you know nothing of the subject. All the best rivalries are enhanced by off-field politics. Real Madrid vs Barcelona = royalists vs separatists. Celtic vs Rangers = Catholic Irish nationalists vs Protestant loyalists. I'm not comparing Saints vs Pompey to them, of course. Just making the point. And you're telling me Spurs briefly replaced Pompey as a rival? Don't be so stupid. A few Saints fans had a dislike of them, they ignored, end of. It lasted barely a few years. And you hate Everton and Stoke more than Pompey? Why? Are you even a Saints fan? Why are you so desperate to put our rivalry down and big Brighton's up? If you want evidence for history between Southampton and Portsmouth, I'm sure there's plenty of articles online. To suggest that two historic, major ports only 17 miles apart have no history of rivalry between each other is extremely stupid.
  11. There's centuries of history behind Southampton and Portsmouth's rivalry. Swansea and Cardiff are the two biggest cities in Wales and are the only South Wales football teams in the Football League. Man U vs Leeds is Lancashire vs Yorkshire. Brighton and Palace are just two unrelated teams 50 miles apart. Their rivalry is weird because there's no history behind it. It just randomly sprung up in the 80's. What's more, a rivalry is not a 'proper' rivalry if it's doubted. Some Palace fans care more about Milwall/Charlton, some Brighton fans care more about Pompey, and most people outside of Sussex and Croydon think it's a bit silly. Such doubts do not arise when it comes to Saints/Pompey, Cardiff/Swansea etc.
  12. Our rivalry with Pompey is a 'proper' rivalry because a) We're local rivals b) Our two cities have been rivals for centuries c) it comes near the top of most "biggest English rivalries" lists, and, most importantly, d) it has it's own Wikipedia page
  13. I think they have a few Southampton trolls on their board who get them all frothing at the mouth with comments like "can you keep up", "Southampton are too big for this league" etc etc. That seems to reinforce their hatred and their view that we're somehow "arrogant". To be fair I've just looked at a thread on their board about our result vs Ipswich and they've been mostly complimentary. Some are still carrying on with all that 'Scumhampton' lark, and most, bizarrely, still despise Adkins (or 'Atkins'/'Aitkins', as they prefer to call him) for reasons nobody fully understands, but their hatred seems to have calmed slightly. Maybe they've realised what utter dickheads they made out of themselves when we played them last season. Maybe their attention has switched to their weird, 50 mile 'rivalry' with Palace. Who knows. Hopefully all this one-way 'rivalry' silliness will soon become a thing of a past.
  14. Pompey fans try and dress the rivalry up in all this mythology. They try to make out like it's a case of class warfare, with Portsmouth representing the "working man" and Southampton the "snobby, rich middle-classes" (which is just laughably absurd). But the fact is, we, or rather I, hate them because they are a nasty little club who play at a nasty little ground with nasty fans in a nasty, horrible little city. Everything about them is vile and disgusting. Simple as that.
  15. I've never seen Bart put in a bad performance. He's magnificent every time he plays. Kelvin is probably the better shot stopper, but he has poor distribution and does have the odd nightmare. I'd go for Bart purely based on his consistency.
  16. Anyone remember that 'Conkers' song from school assemblies? Jack Cork, Oh his name is Jack Cork, He is easily the biggest and the best, Jack Cork, Oh his name is Jack Cork, When he pulls on the shirt he's like a man possessed, And when he played for Saints, In 2008, He was great but he was only here on loan, Now he's come back to us, He's on the bus, He'll win games for us on his own. Also, to the tune of 'Do You Love Me' ( ): Do we looove him? (Yeah we love him) Do we looove him? (Yeah we love him) Do we looove him? (Yeah we love him) Nooooow that heeee's a Saaaaaaint (Saaaaaint) (Cork, Cork) Yeah he'll tear up the league (Cork, Cork) In defence or attack (Cork, Cork) He's the one we call Jack (Cork!) I would give my right arm to see the Northam sing that one.
  17. http://www.northstandchat.com/showthread.php?199793-Anyone-hope-we-LOSE-to-Huddersfield-next-week Some of them genuinely want their team to lose their last ever game at the Withdean just to spite us. Funniest quotes: They hate us as much as we hate Pompey apparently Bless 'em Yes Brighton. You had your programme, pre-match music, PA, banners and chants all aimed at gloating about your title win, but we're the "classless" ones
  18. Funniest post in that thread: Claridge is a skate. Do they really think Pompey hate them more than us? Delusional isn't the word...
  19. Lol, no, I... I mean 'Matt'... said something about a SSN game he was covering before it went on air...
  20. It's been confirmed by Claus, his son and a Sky Sports producer who first alerted everyone to his account. Plus he's tweeted some stuff that only he could know. It's definitely him.
