How would you like your Manager to be?
Wilf replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
If we are judging managers on their interviews in the media then I'd go for Pardew; always interesting and prepared to give genuine insights into the team, individual players and performances, the support we've given and his own feeling about things. Really interesting and entertaining..... but.... I think Nigel is doing something much more important when he's interviewed....he's continuing the positive messages that he uses in managing the team and the club, and he is always completely congruent and consistent and that is what true leadership is about. When players watch him being interviewed they will hear and see and feel the same messages being sent, absolutely consistently, every time. And Nigel wants us to be part of it too, because we have a big role to play. For the neutral he must be dull as ditchwater, but I feel he is doing absolutely the right thing for us to get the best possible results on the pitch; How many managers indulge themselves by trying to become "personalities" in front of the camera? Nigel knows it's more important to put everything behind the team. I enjoy his interviews because they reassure me that we have a true leader running the team; I don't expect any insights but I enjoy the waves of positivity he sends out and I enjoy his skill as he ignores the content of the question to put across his consistent messages every time. -
Just so I'm clear, is this the same Guly who had a decent game and got an ovation when he went off? Just checking.

Sorry, but from where I was stood it was a pretty easy chance; for a natural goalscorer there was plenty of time to adjust and hit it straight, which would have sent it in.

He's obviously looking to liven things up a bit down there! http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17191799 "Middlesbrough striker Lukas Jutkiewicz has said there is extra incentive for the club to win at Portsmouth on Saturday, as he is a Southampton fan."

Love it! Great to see that their scale model is being put to good use.

Even better, it was 4:5 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually he was in the squad and came on as sub in the second half and then sulked a bit on the pitch (I was fairly near him when he was on the right touch line and a long pass to him sailed over his head and out for a throw; he gesticulated (French) and stood and stared at whoever passed it for seemed like ages. Maybe he had indigestion from chomping down a burger on the bench ! No it was Kevin Davies who was surprisingly left out of the squad altogether. Strangely I bumped into him on the pavement outside a deserted Millenium Stadium long after the game had finished, and he said how gutted he was not to have been picked (no surprise there).

CFSFC has already mentioned it, how could any away game be better than a 5:4 win away at Norwich, with an injury time winner, after we had been losing 2:0 then 3:1 then 4:3 And if we had lost that game we would have been well & truly fu**ed (relegated). Also, I live in Norwich, sweet!!!!!! (this year, Portman Rd was brilliant)

Sorry I just don't believe this, any fart that sounds like "Puncheon" is not a squeaker, and it means you've probably followed through...

The acceptable distance to stand behind someone at the urinal?

Perhaps you should let him use the cubicle on his own.... -
Ask your wife or girlfriend to name saints players.....

Brie, Chardonnay, the blonde one with big honkers, the one with dark hair who had a son who turned out to be gay and married Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks, the latino couple who have the one-off marriage... Will that do? -
Could we perhaps adapt the Norwich City song that is sung with great gusto at Carrow Road? "Kick off, throw in, have a little scrimmage, Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die; On the ball, City, never mind the danger, Steady on, now's your chance, Hurrah! We've scored a goal. City!, City!, City!" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_the_Ball,_City

Also his investment in Kutis could have made decent returns.

What situation? A load of hot air on an internet forum?

It sounds good from what you guys have quoted but the link's not working for me. Anyone fancy cutting & pasting a bit more? Cheers

I think this is a bit harsh on Sky They do show live games from Championship, League 1 and even League 2. Sure this coverage is nothing compared to their Premiership coverage; but standing back and looking at it objectively, the lower leagues have never in their history had the sort of coverage they are getting now. Also BBC 1's Saturday Night FL show is amazing in comparison to just getting MOTD showing the top division, which is all we had for decades.

"A valiant Blues effort went unrewarded in Hampshire thanks to Nigel Adkins' classy Southampton side" "Chris Hughton admitted Southampton deserved all three points at St. Mary's but felt the 4-1 scoreline was a false reflection of the game as a whole". From BCFC official site http://www.bcfc.com/page/Home

Is anyone thinking that? Has anyone said that? I think all the posts on here so far are the sound of people enjoying a great win early in the season, nothing more, nothing less.

3 attempts on target - 4 goals !

Rugby refs also seem to talk to the players all the time, actively coaching them in some circumstances (particularly in scrums where they might tell players what they are doing wrong when the scrum collapses and coach them on how to do it properly). Can you imagine a ref at St Marys coaching the away team on how to line up their defensive wall at a free kick; that would make her popular wouldn't it!

Did you know Hooiveld translates from the Dutch as "hay field" ?

Which striker could you realistically see us getting on the Bus next week?

OK, lots of support on here for Jackson and Martin of Norwich, including warm words from Dalek who I believe lives in Norwich, however.... I've seen them both quite a lot over the last couple of years and I wouldn't want either of them at Saints, because this is how they seem to me.... Martin: seems lazy to me, seriously lazy! If the ball lands at his feet in the box he might well stick it away, but don't expect him to run to get there, and certainly don't expect him to track back or generally look interested during a game. Jackson: Had a great spell at the end of last season; however up till then had seemed very lightweight, lacking in conviction and confidence, easily shoved off the ball, making the wrong runs and generally falling over a lot. Make no mistake, Grant Holt is the main man for Norwich up front, Martin and Jackson have done very little compared to him. -
Great post; it will be a fascinating tactical battle.
