If this manager stays we will go down. Absolutely clueless clown.

Quoted figures for the whole season because my original post mentioned the whole season so far. You selectively chose to go on about the last 6 weeks. As for formations, my argument is that the manager should find one which creates chances, scores goals and wins games - the amount of chances, goals scored and games won so far this season is testament to the fact he hasn't found it yet. We need to play in a way which suits the players we have, let them 'off the leash' as some pundits have been suggesting, and let the opposition worry about us. So yes, play that formation week in, week out. Ferguson did that when he managed and didn't do too bad. Is that a bizarre thought? Perhaps. Btw "in the last 6 weeks" Boufal & Austin have both started 5 out of 8 games, so just over half......not exactly regular is it? Plus in the "last 6 weeks" you were banging on about we've won 1 in 8 games!! Got 5pts from possible 24. That is relegation form, or is that another bizarre thought?
-
Don't agree with you. His best formation is one which scores goals and wins games. 4 out of 18 suggests he doesn't know his best formation. 8 regulars? I'll give you the full backs and goalie, but he's chopped and changed the centre backs no end of times. To suggest that Boufal (8 starts) and Austin (5 starts) have been regulars this season is, to use your phrase 'complete nonsense'.

Very nearly half a season gone and MP doesn't know his best 11 or best formation. Goes into every match with the intention not to lose rather than setting up to try and win. That philosophy will only ever mean that you will inevitably lose more than you win. Subsequently the players will lose confidence and a losing mentality sets in. We are in a relegation dogfight, and need 3 teams to be worse than us come the end of the season. If we finish 17th with this manager we will have done well.
-
Fat Sam could come out of retirement. We need a manager who will stave off relegation, because we will be in a relegation dogfight, that's for sure. MP is clueless - plays one up front at home to BURNLEY!! Sets up to not lose, at HOME!! Is this the Southampton Way?

I think I actually prefer Puel to the way this manager plays football. At least we did create chances under Puel - just couldn't convert them. We used to moan about the number of chances we were missing. What did their goalkeeper have to do in that match? Apart from the free kick and follow up goal, what else was he required to do? We created absolutely nothing else? Absolutely nothing. We are so bad to watch. Insipid, uninspired, slow football. We will get battered by the big 6 home and away. There were 3 points up for grabs today, especially after we went one up. But we sat back and invited them on. This manager will mean we will be constantly looking down this season rather than up.

Biggest fraud in football....15 players signed under him....did I use the word fraud?

why oh why does Tadic take penalties. He's fukking shlt at penalties. How many has he taken now and how many missed? Useless ****

Should be a straight red. Don't think much of this ref

My two pence worth on the Forster debate....just my opinion, which is what a forum is supposed to be about, and if you choose to have a different opinion to mine and wish to respond please don't slag me off for not understanding football or being blinkered, or following the crowd or jumping on the bandwagon. It's my opinion and if you want to disagree then please try and be polite with any response without any sarcasm or vitriol. Now that's over here it is. I thought Fraser should have done better with the first today. It wasn't right in the corner and he got nowhere near it! He always seems to be caught on the wrong foot which seems to me to be indicative that his anticipation is at fault. This is not the first nor second nor third (I could go on) time that he's been beaten by a shot from outside the area this season. He's good at those close saves like the glancing header today when he got a strong left hand to it, so his reflexes are not an issue. I just think he's a bit slow to read shots on goal. And because of that I don't think he's one of the better goalkeepers in the EPL, in fact I think he's bang average. Just my opinion.

Hart is better in my opinion and would be a great replacement if Forster goes to Everton.

Jrod has been abysmal first half. Looks like a pub player at the moment. So far off the pace it's unreal. Can't understand why Puel drops our most recent goal scorer. Forster looks short of confidence. An abject effort to save that shot. We're being overrun in midfield. Carrol winning every arial battle. God, we miss VvD.
-
He had no chance with that shot. Why single him out? Is he your whipping boy? Jeez some people
-
No his chest was not offside and it was an own goal by Morgan. Your eyesight is as bad as the linesman
-
TV proves it was not offside! Bloody crap linesman!
-
Not this season, but next, if we still have Puel and he continues playing in the same way, with VvD gone, we will be certs for relegation. Think Puel has to change or go imo
-
I can see us ending 15th or 16th at this rate. We'll probably get beat at Anfield in the semi so that will be this season over. We need to get favourable draws in the FA Cup to do anything there, and Arsenal isn't going to be easy, even if we get past Norwich. However, I'm more concerned about next season. VvD will be off in mid season to one of the big clubs, and if Puel is still here and playing the same sort of football we will certainly be relegation favourites in my book.

The ref is not having a good game for us....all decisions seem to be going their way. He is from Lancashire so maybe that's why
-
Great result. Should have been more, but we looked a threat going forward and I've not thought that for some time. Shout out to Redmond who I thought ran his socks off. Romeu bossed the midfield. Defense back to being very, very solid again. Much better. Tbh I thought we'd lose tonight, but we take an advantage to Anfield. Will be difficult up there but who knows. Thought the ref had his instructions that they want Man Utd / Liverpool final - gave every decision their way. Anyway, pleased with that.

Looks like it's not just our refs that are carp http://the18.com/soccer-news/porto-danilo-sent-because-ref-ran-into-him?utm_campaign=news&utm_medium=organic-social&utm_source=facebook&utm_content=article

Not sure what's wrong, but clearly something isn't right. Are the players happy playing to Puel's system? I don't think they are. Too much stop, look back or sideways for a player to pass to. Never forwards as we don't have runners making forward breaks. We are not direct or incisive at all. We seem to want to win the possession statistics rather than the game. Comes to something when we are at home and WBA are actually a better team than us. I think the Premier League is a bit too much for Puel and his brand of play is not working. Forster - he has no confidence at the moment (fans sarcastically cheering doesn't help). Felt he could have done better for both goals today 5 Martina - Got into great positions but utter crap crossing 5 Yoshida - Both goals came form his area of the pitch 4 VvD - Looked out of sorts today. Transfer talk getting t him? Harsh sending off 4 McQueen - meh 5 PEH - Okay 6 Tadic - not good 5 Davis - okayish 6 Boufal - crap show pony who tries to take on 2 or 3 opposition invariably losing possession 4 RO - Probably our best player today 6.5 Long - Good goal. Nothing much else 6 JRod - meh 5 JWP - Flatters (always) 5 Sims - didn't do much 5 Puel - No plan B, Plan A is sh!t 3 How long will he last if this carries on?
-
Spot on mate. IMO Romeu has been our best player tonight and has run himself into the ground covering the rest of the midfield. We've been abject apart from him.
-
Wrong mate. There was nothing Forster could have done for any of the goals. They have been better than us all over the pitch. They have better players and a better manager who has got his tactics spot on tonight. We look like a team that has no confidence at all in this game. Down to 10 men against a better side isn't easy. We need to chalk this one off and move on to the next game.
-
Mike Dean's 3rd Spurs game this season. He's issued a red card to the opposition in all three games and penalties in 2 of them. Make of that what you will....
-
I gave Redmond stick on Wednesday for his performance being poor - always passing back or sideways, never taking on a player, giving the ball away cheaply. Today, it didn't seem any different 1st half, but 2nd half he improved immensely, driving forward, taking on defenders and causing problems. I think you're being disingenuous, because if he hadn't tried that then Jay would never have had the opportunity to score the 3rd. So what if it wasn't intended and was lucky, it happened because of his attacking play. Sure beat him with a stick when he has a poor game and doesn't contribute but don't slag him off when he has contributed and we have just won 3-1 away from home against an in form team. PEH was hopeless first half, our worst player, giving away a goal, but again his 2nd half performance was immense. Big shout out to Bertrand who was great today, with a really great goal and some incisive breaks down the left causing Bournemouth problems. Davis made a huge difference when he came on with a more positive approached. Pleased for JRod. I also gave him stick for missing 2 open goals recently, but he has bags of character and just wants to score goals with one good one and one fantastic one today. He'll miss more but he won't go missing and he'll get more, and I think now with CA out for a while we need him to step up and I think he will do well under CP and the way we look to play. Happy to be 7th at the moment after the departures in the summer, and I just hope we can keep VVD for the rest of this season and next season too.
