Let’s hope Newcastle find a few more £40m Joelinton’s with all their money. Blew their load after five minutes, Dier made it look respectable.
-
And Leicester stop playing the chuckle brothers and beat Manchester United.
-
Positive is that we’ve got both Armstrong’s and Tella on the bench if needs be, so hopefully we can maintain this performance. Whereas, Bielsa’s options to switch the game up are a bunch of kids and a crocked Adam Forshaw.
-
They’re poor on the ball, but then so were Wolves and so were we. Need to capitalise.

He thrives off attention, that's all there is to it.

Sol Bamba’s back playing for Middlesbrough every week at 36 after his diagnosis and recovery. Good that he has recent inspiration and all the best to him. Was a player I wanted us to sign before Bournemouth.

100%. Had the best squad in the Championship, scraped 6th by a point. Had one of the best squads in the Premier League after mass investment, got sacked with them in 9th. Has a false reputation as a manager because of his name, like Gerrard has in a current one team league given Celtic's self destruction.

Get Kelvin Davis back in the first eleven for Saturday too, he plays well against Leeds.
-
Howe can't organise a defence, though.
-
Hasenhuttl usually favours players who've been in training all week, doesn't he after internationals? Could be Tella against Leeds and then Broja against Burnley. Either way, it's a shame he isn't ours.

The Fulham youngster, Carvalho would be good for this, who is also in the final year of his contract. We knew we needed a new number 10 when we signed Minamino last January, and nothing’s improved since, so wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a priority position.
-
But, he's also not the clear improvement for what we need in goal. I understand why we're looking at him as he's in the final six months of his contract, but there's also a reason why he's still at West Brom and why he's only had one Premier League season at 28. We used other fans' opinions to judge a lesser known player in Lyanco in the summer, and a quick Google of Johnstone's two most recent clubs - West Brom and Aston Villa, show he's one that divides opinion. https://www.villatalk.com/topic/15997-sam-johnstone/page/71/ http://westbrom.com/forum/index.php?topic=21946.1875 (They blame the goalkeeping coaching here, where have we seen this before). Then you've got the standard eye test, a goal he conceded last month after 13 seconds in the video below against the prolific Andre Gray: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91IYe1xPr34 As I say, I understand why we're in for him. But, he's not the answer to the problem, like Gunn, a highly rated Championship goalkeeper wasn't and we'll be in the same position in the near future.
-
Still think that we can do better than Johnstone, but I guess he's the cheap option. Signing the one goalkeeper who conceded more than us last season stinks of Leicester signing two of our defenders, who now can't keep out goals for them.

6. Why don’t the club announce contract extensions for McCarthy and Stephens, who are first team players. We find out their new deals through reports in the Athletic.

Kane to beat Shearer's Premier League goal scoring record at Newcastle.

Man City brought in players such as Jo, Ben Haim, Wright-Phillips, ageing Bridge, Bellamy and Given, alongside the big name signings of Kompany, De Jong and Robinho and the ever consistent Zabaleta in their first window after the big takeover. Taking them from 9th to 10th under the guidance of Mark Hughes. The next summer they brought in more Premier League experience in Barry, Santa Cruz, Tevez, Adebayor, Kolo Toure, Lescott and Vieira. So, it took two seasons before they worked their strategy out and targeted mostly star names such as Boateng, Yaya Toure, Silva and at that time Balotelli. The current Newcastle team is also worse than the one Man City started with and even Everton, who went on a spending spree the summer of taking Koeman, so it doesn't guarantee them any success at the moment. Everyone thought QPR were here to stay when they were signing Ferdinand, Kranjcar, Hoilett, Cesear, Park, Remy, Bosingwa and Samba, but they were all over the hill and looking for one final pay day.

cUnacceptable inconsistency and appalling standard of referees

Just to continue the Mike Dean hate train, he went to view the monitor for the Jan Bednarek penalty in the 9-0 vs Man United last season and still decided it was a foul. -

Yep, we saw how well VAR can be used in the Euros, it was working in the background, taking nothing away from the match itself. Whereas, in the Premier League, it's still the forefront of matches and causing much debate. The standard of refereeing in this country is just shocking, and what's scarier is that the Championship officiating is still much worse than what we see every week. A lot is said about how great the league is, but the officiating quality doesn't match and it's the same old officials getting it wrong every year. Seems to be a job for the boys. Just the other week, Anthony Taylor showed himself up by giving a player who hadn't been booked a second yellow card and then sending him off. Embarrassing. Lets not start on the ex-referees who are used on TV and are too scared to go against the decision of their ex-colleague, again all very cliquey. -
I expect he’d go to a better club than us, unless we try the offering of first team football tactic and then he’d be quite the coup. Interestingly, Fulham regularly seem to be allowing their brightest youngsters to run their contracts down and leave for a pittance. Both Dembele and Elliott have left for compensation fees in recent years.

Nice. Hopefully this and a well earned rest from his suspension will motivate him to get back to where he was last season. Not that I doubt his attitude, it just isn't coming off for him so far this season.
-
It still bewilders me how Cedric, Hojbjerg, Vestergaard and a past his peak Bertrand earned steps up to the clubs competing for a top six place. I suppose at least Hojbjerg does a job, despite a lot of his game being average. But, none of them stood out here when they left and it's not a surprise to see they aren't enjoying any success at their new clubs. Just earning more money, I suppose, which is the key.

The issue with Dean isn't that he has a dislike/vendetta against us, it's that he thrives off the attention that comes with being a referee and enjoys making the big decisions that seem "soft", because he knows it will get people talking about him. This has always been clear when he's the match referee and has been thrown at him many a time before. Now he can do the same from the VAR set-up and even as a fan of Tranmere, when he knows the Sky cameras are about, he's going to put on a show.
-
Of course they have to put the momentum back with Chelsea, the match was too even.
-
McCarthy’s having a great game.
-
Ah well, see you in two weeks.
