Bothroyd and Burke would be pretty much ideal signings, Bothroyd a different but good striker to compliment Lambert and Burke would be good rotation for the wings, just hope they haven't got stupid wage demands
-
All the automatic renewals are nice and sensible, im not hardings biggest fan but an automatic extension says more than enough (I assume Martin only needed a few appearances which was made up a bit at the start of the season anyway). Butterfield is the best news there! Hope we get something sensible agreed with Connelly like Jaidi have really shown a bit of experience and maturity to overall pay off
-
Didn't McCarthy have some serious weight issues when he joined West Ham? Good to see Graeme Lee taking the hint with the whole professional game thing too...
-
Cool another reason to just hate Swindon that little bit more
-
Biggest calamity - Tranmere away, the whole back line out did Hardings lob... Most ambitious player of the season - Jaidi with his turns of pace from the middle of the park, hampered only by his skill on the ball Surprise of the season - How many members of the youth team a. look the same and b. look more or less like Connelly
-
Connolly - Yes but only just, he's got the experience and skill but not really the fitness, should be just worth it. Jaidi - One year rotation, we have to replace him this season, either Martin/Seaborn have to take his place or we buy someone in as his age is going to really effect the team. Martin - YES! Have to either get him a lot of L1 games on loan or get him into more npc games to see him develop. Seaborn - OUT, terrified me every time the ball goes near him Harding - could give another go but can not be treated as the number one left back (though we havnt got anyone pushing him too much for the place) Butterfield - We HAVE to give another year, given more than enough very good performances, been overall better than Richardson and really should be a good part of the first team next season. Gobern - Too unknown. Yes but only 2 years, loan him out to an average L1 team and see if he actually does anything other than try and break someone's knee

Blurgh this looks like a depressing mess of a game, without knowing someone from the club I dont see man people actually being able to get a ticket (feel entitled to one after Rochdale) The ground will have 1805 away fans plus a couple of hundred in the home end, plus another 3.5k home fans. Dull and rubbishy league one strikes again. Would though improve my tune if Brentford hadn't stopped taking new admissions to the club to prevent people buying a Colchester ticket and then being fine to get a Saints ticket From the end of the Brentford ticket info

Rochdale 2 - 0 Southampton - Post Match Reaction

Overall the game showed our complete and utter under estimation of Rochdale's ability to scout and watch how we play. Its been 2 years (if not more) of Kelvin getting beaten at the near post, by now every striker in league one should know this and it is costing us badly. The quicker he ups his game or (more likely) we give him a nice coaching job and get some one better and proven the better. Jaidi shouldn't have started, he was done for pace and fitness, its annoying we wont give Martins a go out as Seaborn is the single worst player in a saints shirt. He can not do anything right, its been like this for months and the quicker Nigel sorts it out and gets rid of him the better. Richardson was terrible as well, such a poor buy over the summer, defending was uninspired, going forward was embarrassing and it is so unfortunate Butterfield cant handle so many games in a row. The positives are Lallana hopefully will come back and we stop playing a formation that doesnt suit all our players, its annoying to see Guly get caught out when technically he a great player, but we seem adamant to ignore this some times and force him to do roles he does not suit. When he plays well we dont have to rely on Lallana to create goals for our strikers and we have not been giving him the opportunity to fill that role. Summary, its not over till an over weight lady sings, we have a game in hand and a point over the next few teams but we can not afford more TERRIBLE slip ups like this (oh and the ground wasn't all that bad, served an alright pint too which for £3 I cant complain at) -
Anyone driving with a free seat coming south?? Would happily pay some travel costs to avoid the midnight bus from Manchester, just trying to get my self on the bedford to brighton line to get back to St Albans
-
Anyone got a spare seat heading back down towards London or Bedford sort of way? Got a ticket without realising last train from Manchester is at half 9 and a 5 hour bus journey isnt highly appealing. Oh and a win is really needed, got to really push for automatic as quick as possible to compensate for all our silly mistakes at places like Tranmere and Walsall
-
At the united game he showed he's not just a typical striker, in that game he had the ability to find the wide positions as a forward (Barnard was able to do the same and the only flaw to the plan was trying to play Lallana though the middle of the two where he's not best suited). His goal against Huddersfield at home was amazing, should be up for goal of the season this year (well in L1) no one will turn and strike like that. Him and Barnard have a really good to watch partnership but he also plays well with Guly (when everyone knows what's going we do play well with Guly but thats a different topic). It's just a shame the start of the season was ruined by the training thing or so I heard. The best line was the bloke standing behind me at Walsall "Lambert could play in the prem if he had some pace" which sums him up well
-
Glad to be rid of him, as with the general theme his game against Bolton in the League cup was pretty awesome and since then hasnt done much positive in a saints shirt. Against Blackpool was his only other reasonable appearance this season and thats because he got sat down, shown a Chaplow tape and shouted at till he got the message to just play like that for the match... We'll be rid of him by the summer to anyone
-
Probably the worst game iv been to in ages, Richardson was an EMBARRASSMENT! Should have the treatment of all old horses and taken to the glue factory. I have never seen someone mess up the position of right back as much as him. The only players who made him not look like a non-league mascot with the wrong kit were Harding, Fonte and Davis. Just so many mistakes between them that was too hard to watch... The rest of the team can not expect to perform if the basics of the defence can not be done right and even then we still needed Barnard to get going Today is 3 points dropped for us being to terrible for words

There's 2 options on national rail's route planner thing, either to Eastleigh or to Airport Parkway, its annoying as there's no mega train this week (so no fiver return from waterloo) the free bus service helps out but isnt fun...

A mate and his dad are big cafc supporters and everything wrong they have ever said about charlton has been parkey... Both of them have been calling for his head since that televised game back at the start of the season as (in their view) he's repeatedly picked a team based on training ground promise instead of in game form (my best explanation for their views either way). So most of you are right in saying that this is a weird move as they are only a point behind us and are pushing for automatic promotion, but the main problem is that with the resources parkey had is that he should be right between us and brighton (or level with brighton) as there have been too many poor match performances, with being hopeless for an hour against a 10 man colchester being the final straw... Only thing that makes it worse is they are not fans of denis wise either

Im loving all the speculation, Marradona is a better shout than half the people (hert especially) mentioned so far! What ever happens it'll someone better than Pardew, someone with the ability to attract the best players and be able to deal with Cortese's ambitions and plans (and money) so we dont end up looking like Blackpool when reaching the prem (not results wise just Ian Holloway complaining he couldn't attract many players)
