Saints 1 Arsenal 1 - Post Match Reactions & MotM
lloydie replied to Lighthouse's topic in The Saints
Personally, I understand the subs and why they were made Jrod to offer some pace off the line where lambert was too tired. With JWP, arsenal had just brought on ramsey to help pack that midfield a bit more and cover more ground - JWP was the right option to counter this move. And De Ridder played well against sunderland, and did well today in the short space of time he was on... Really can ghost past players! I'll join everyone else in saying the back 4 were excellent, massive shout out to s.davis who had his best game in a saints shirt so far! Puncheon was frustrating, good in spells but has a habbit of dallying too long on the ball and running down blind alleys. Should have done better with his chances infront of goal. On to the next one now though! COYR -
For what its worth to anyone saying guly shouldnt be playing at this level... he has been one of our better players lately, was brilliant away at stoke and has done well (bar the OG) today.

New GK. Kelvin has been brilliant for us, but I could not help but grimace every time he tried to challenge kenwyne for the ball in the air. Gazzinga one day maybe, but not now... and for Boruc, although I was thrilled as sh1t when he arrived it, seems clear he is not going to play much this year now. a CB thats a bit bigger than Yoshida, but with a bit more going on upstairs (eg:Having a brain) than Jos. New winger to cover/challenge both Adam and Punch for a spot out wide. Mayuka/JRod are not the answer there. Keep them up top.

I think i actually came close to crying with laughter here. Then just cried because all of those things happened to me... Apart from the last one.

Has Adkins got anything right since the end of last season

I heard Jan Koller was hawking himself around southampton earlier...

I had a similar problem but I was at my desk... Decided to use a stapler instead... Worked a charm!!

Im in the group of fans quite happy to see us play in europe and have a decent away days whilst we can! Few and far between for us saints fans, we're ******** in the league anyways so who cares?! If we get in the cup lets chuck a team out there and see what happens!
-
Saints fans were brilliant today. Fulhams were awful. SRL had an off day, and puncheon frustrated me Today in that he kept trying to be too clever and got caught in possesion a few times. Yoshida was dire, his heading/passing ability is so bad I just came to accept that it was going to the opposition. Cork was brilliant, along with Morgan in the middle, those two are a great prem duo to have! Shaw showed a few instances where he wasnt God himself at LB but I can live with that, still a good game for a 17yo. Ultimately would have settled for a point before the game and by half time would have traded my house for one! Much better second half.

I think he meant out of every squad saints have fielded every year we have been in the premier league. The last time we went down, was a squad worse than this one. They werent a team just a selection of players wielded under 3 different managers. Jacobson would be worse than Jos. Id rather have rickie than camara. And schneiderlin/cork over oakley and redknapp (was past it then) Although you make a valid point too. There are I think 3 teams worse than us in the league: Reading, Wigan. And i think one of Villa and Sunderland will be below us. QPR potentially in that bracket too but Harry will magic his way out of that mess after January.

Eye glasses look nifty. Shame I just spunked a few hundred last week on a new pair of specs!

Thing is, some players work really well and are effective in certain formations with different patterns of play and different managers and players etc around them.... Then they move to a club where things are a bit different and it doesnt work out. James Beattie fitted how we played brilliantly, he then moved away, and stopped being as effective. Not sure whether this meant he was a good player not being played to his strengths, or a bad player with his strengths being used very effectively!? Liverpool do have a habbit of wasting previously decent talent ( carrol, adam, crouch...heskey ) But back on topic, Downing, for the right money could be very usefull. Especially considering our options down the left after AL.

Following on from that, some fag packet maths shows that (and im taking for granted here we are getting 32,000 for every 19 home games, and theres no discount for season tickets) if we were looking to pay £20 which most people say is fair, that works out at £960k per game, and would give the club £12.16m per season, bump the price up by a tenner and it shoots up to £18.24m and £35 quid (an optimistic average prem ticket price) will take us to the £21m mark. If it means paying an extra tenner per game that would enable us to have an extra 6 million quid in the club than when paying £20 per game... i'd say it's worth it for the premier league and signing better players, etc.
-
That pretty much sums up my view... Still 17th and above for me
-
Wouldnt be a bad signing for liverpool to be fair.
-
Haha, yes but you just know we will for sh1ts and giggles!
-
This. Although id also happily swap both dawson and olsen for just kanya-byik. He'll be an unreal player soon.
-
Kana-byik would be an immense signing at CB, would be surprised if we got him though!
-
Clearly ges just having a laugh, dont get why people are being so precious over it. Its his money, he can do what he wants with it. The comments on that story are full of some very special individuals!

The Southampton Goalkeeping Crisis Flowchart

I see what you did there -
Brilliant result, im happy as larry with that!! Well done to adkins and the boys!

And personally i think youre a cvnt. They fought and died for your freedom, a one pound donation and signal of respect isnt much to ask. Should chuck you on the frontlines next time our country needs someone, then see how much respect you want to give! Although they dont let cowards in the army last time i checked.
