Of course employing a high profile manager always works too - anyone remember how far forward Saggy Chops with us, Ruud Guillet at the Barcodes, Vialli at Watford, Hoddle at Spuds, Bryan Robson at Bradford & WBA, David Oleary at Villa - all high profile 'wow' factor appointments and all failed to live up to their expectation. Also from the list you mention: Luggy - was he really that bad? he had a better win ratio than WGS Gray/Wigley - neither had ever managed before Poortvliet/Woote - neither really understood the English leagues Yes the Gray/Wigley/Poortvliet/Woote were low profile and were poor but they were in general poor decissions to appoint as manager due to the reasons above. It doesn't mean that all low profile appointments will fail A lot of big name managers were appointed as low profile managers starting their sucess somewhere (MON at Wycombe, SAF at Aberdeen, Big Laurie with us, Bobby Robson at Ipswich) all would have been seen as relative gambles but boy did they pay off. The point is is doesn't matter whether you are a big name or a nobody, if you have the ability you will be a sucess. With NA we have a manager who is highly educated in football and has proven himself at this level with a club with one of the league's smallest incomes. I personally believe NA does have the ability to take us forward.

I love this - we're all f - ing experts on the goings on at SMS. I've got a novel idea, why don't we wait for the announcement on the OS and why don't we give the new manager a chance before we criticise (who gives a toss about WOW factor - I'd rather have a manager who is right for the job as opposed to a manager who is more famous).

with a masive 61% possession, 11 shot on, 10 off & 10 corners I'd be delighted if a manager of ours could produce that for us.

Overseas saints what other teams do you follow?
St Jim replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
Adelaide United for me (currently top of the A-League). It did take a bit of getting used to chanting "United.......United....." without the word s**t in between, but they play in red so the "Red Army" chant fits nicely! -
I am wondering why they are not appealing the decission.
-
So the cheating Civilains Under Naval Training Schemes have got away with it, but what happens in the instance that they do not meet their repayments under the CVA?
-
If you are correct then this tweet tells a welcome story.... GuardianJamieJ @SteveGrant1983 apparently they've already fixed an appeal slot if they lose #pompey less than 20 seconds ago via Twitter for iPhone
-
records are there to be broken!
-
I'm trying to work out if this wait is more painful for them of for us.
-
I would have thought Poopey would be the perfect team for Jobsite to advertise at
-
Can I ask what is this 4p in the pound I keep seeing on this thread - the CVA was 20p
-
typical quote we have come to love from AA - hmmmmm! I wonder Mr Android
-
Their comments are funnier than watching their team last year. As ESB says
-
I'm not really surprised by the CVA getting through. AA was always going to either inflate the overall debt or state a reduced HMRC debt to ensure that they had under 25%. Whether they get away with it will depend on whether HMRC will appeal the CVA in the courts and I can not for one minute think they will accept the decission especially as HMRC have pushed thing this far I can't see them just giving up. I wouldn't be surprised if HMRC had wanted this CVA to be approved as this will give them their day in court they've been so desperate to have with a Football Club. No doubt we will not hear a thing from them until 1 hour before teh deadline for appeal ends. I still think there is a whole world of **** to fall upon our fishy neighbours

Overseas World Cup Coverage
St Jim replied to dubai_phil's topic in Overseas Saints / Supporters Groups
They are bad (really bad) but to be honest they do a better job than the other channels could to. Could you imagine Channel 7 or Nine getting the football and Eddie Maguire being the ancor? -
It now makes no difference if they get a UEFA licence - the FA have already allocated the final Europa allocation spot to 7th in the PL.
-
ROFL - more golden comments from the deluded one http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2557/news/2010/05/15/1926485/portsmouth-boss-avram-grant-continues-attack-on-the-premier?

I don't know if this has been posted but here is an typically p*55 poor piece of journalism from Brian Woolnough in the Daily Star but I do like this comment - never a truer word spoken: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/columnists/view/135352/Portsmouth-It-s-the-Final-insult/? "The FA Cup Final has been losing its gloss and charisma without bankrupt, shamed and relegated Portsmouth stepping into the struggling showpiece. Today used to be special in the football calendar, a great climax to the domestic football season. Not any more. The FA Cup Final has been pushed back behind the money-mad world of the Premier League and Champions League, a great old institution struggling to keep pace with the modern game. Just when we needed some romance, along come the Fratton Park club with their shameful story of overspending, blatant mismanagement and being an embarrassment to the game. "

just think how painful it must be for those cheating ****s to be supporting a Hampshire team playing in Red & White.

The manufacuring industry was always going to be screwed with the emergance of growing industrial countries suchs as India and China etc. The cost of manufacturing in the UK against those UK & EU companies manufacturing in places such as India was never going to be competitive or sustainable. The alternative would have been for the tax payers to prop up the UK manufacturing industry, which is ludicrous and a short step away from extreme socialism. Thatcher only facilitated the inevitable. Any critic of Thatcher only have to look at her record in the polls. If she was that bad why didn't the public vote her out.....ever? It's not like she was slick & dynamic and full of spin, therefore she must have been there on her policy credentials.

He didn't just sell it off, he sold it and announced prior tot he sale, when he was selling and at what price he was selling at. Nice one Gordon =D>

after seeing those clips of Farage it may well swing my vote for UKIP (I'm currently undecided between Tories & UKIP). He is f****** brilliant!

they deserve a lot more. Here in Oz, a rugby league team (Melbourne Storm) has cheated by paying players outside of their salary cap rules to ensure they play for them, extra payments something in the region of $1.7m over 5 years. They are currently one of the top teams, have won the world club champion and have won 2 titles in the last 4 years. I see this kind of cheating similar to P****y who have cheated by paying players extra, over an above their means, to ensure they sign and play for them to bring glory to the club. Unfortunately this is where the similarities end. Melbourne Storm have been found guilty of this and the NRL (National Rugby League) has stripped them of the two titles, fine them $500k, ordered them return $1.1m of prize money won, stripped them of any points won so far and they will not be able to accrue any points going forward this season. At least the governing body in this case has balls!!! FA & PL take note!

but still, by that rationale anyone who chooses to live in the UK deserves a vote? even the non permanent residents? even the asylum seekers yet to be granted any residency status? even EU citizens from another EU country who chose to live in the UK?
-
OK then by that rationale anyone who chooses to live in the UK deserves a vote? even the non permanent residents? even the asylum seekers yet to be granted any residency status? even EU citizens from another EU country who chose to live in the UK? Also what if I left the UK to go travelling for a 6 months or a year or I got transferred with work for 2 years to say, Dubai - should I then have no right to vote? I lived and have paid taxes in the UK all my life barring the last 4 years and contributed taxes to the current term of government who IMO have wasted it, I think therefore I should have a say to get rid of the government who I believe have wasted the money I have contributed. Also as I mentioned before I still have vested interests in the UK which I am paying taxes on and therefore feel I should have a say as to what happens to those taxes.
