It's also tricky as passes forward can more easily be cut out by opposing players - there's only so many options to pass out to, so each goalkeeping pass has to be nigh on perfect. McCarthy isn't cut out for it, but not many are. I guess that's why we value crisp-packet Baz so highly (even though even he misplaces passes).

It is fucking pointless sometimes, it is. I don't care what Martin says about drawing teams in to allow quick-passing counters with more space to play in. It works sometimes, but more often than not we'll lose possession. Why? Because our players aren't fucking Pedri, Zubimendi, or Carvajal, they're Taylor, Bednarek and McCarthy.

I've also very rarely seen him actually run with the ball under control at pace.

Not mind blowing but he's young, hungry to improve and looks like he'll fit into the dressing room nicely. Definite resale value.
