  1. Can't comment on the performance from so far away - but a win is a win! What really matters is that WE all pull together for the next game - and another 3-points against Charlton. Huddersfield appear to be in the driving seat now and I bet all of their fns will fancy 3-points against Oldham. This is almost a derby game - can't be more than 20-miles between the cities! Will Oldham upset Huddersfield's momentum? I don't think so - but stranger things have happened. Just look at a game at a time - and then not worry about the other games until after the final whistle...looking more and more unlikely - once the top 5 hit 78-points there's only room for someone to make a mess of it and we might sneak in! We can't expect to win every game - equally we can't expect someone top buckle under pressure - can we? See you all next week against Charlton - see Blocks 1/2 & 3 not open yet!
  2. You do like to stir things up! Even when handing mates the beer vouchers in The Green Man you were doing your best there too! I saw you!!! a) With regards to the shares the same as all us share holders - they are worth diddly squat! b) Did people really give money to The Trust? c) Who cares? The Trust in concept was a good idea - but like all good ideas it got highjacked and people's egoes took over. Yes - a fan on the board was the ultimate aim - and I guess it had to be someone form The Trust. The jockeying for pole position became evident...was that all it was all about? The fans have a voice - they turn up week in and week out. We don't need the likes of Nick Illingsworth or Perry MacMillan speaking on our behalf. If I have something to say I will write to who I have the gripe with. It usually achieves a polite reply - no real action but I feel better. All these organisations do (IMHO) is wind people up and get no respect - remember the Chorley outburst at a "Saints" gathering? I would just leave well alone Stu - it's old news!
  3. Don't you just love Wycombe...If we win our game in hand - 9-points and counting!
  4. Can't believe this has run for 3-pages. I was more appauled at the Yeovil Stamping incident - where were the police then? What goes around comes around and yes I was "there" during the late seventies and eighties and it was 10x worse. At least now you can wear colours without being branded a hooligan. I think Stu does this to wind people up - after all if it was in Romsey and his car was being defaced he'd be the first to complain! As for the post above relating to Blackpool - that was a horrendous day. Couldn't get a drink at HT and then after queuing for ages - the players came out and the stewards got all arsey. Then OB waded in - it was the same day Stu got kicked out...! There is photgraphic evidence of the incident - was it on Crimewatch?
  5. Hate to put a dampner on this thread but we have a bucket full of injury worries according to Pardew. All that aside we have strength in depth and whilst we all sit back and expect flowing football, sparkling finishing, and a trophy at the end of the day - it might not be all plain sailing. I'm as excited about the day as any of you. The team selects itself - I just hope that those who merit and deserve a start are fit enough. Not looking too far ahead - but could be a dress rehearsal for an event in May... Anyone have a feel for what the weather is going to be like? As a final shot - good luck to the lads walking to Wembley this week for charity. It's a fantatic effort by them for a good cause. They deserve a big pat on the back for keeping to their word - probably made in jest after one too many beers!
  6. Wasn't this guy a bit of a Lowe Luvvie? Not even going to bother to read the article - and someone has already said tomorrow's fish and chip paper.
  7. Just watched the highlights - we we're very unlucky by the looks of it! Still bitterly disappointed at the result - but that's the difference in every league. Get a bit of luck and steal the points. Heads up boys - it was a lot worse following the game on here than being there. At least you can see what's happening.
  8. Really think nothing is imposible. Really believe the play offs are possible - but who else will be there? I think Leeds will be one of the play off teams - not sure who else, I guess any 3 from about 6. Millwall, Colchester, Swindon, Huddersfield, Bristol Rovers and Saints. I know who I want in 2-legs and then a Final at Wembley. I just don't want Colchester!
  9. Gents wanting tickets. I have offered to drive to Carlisle and pick up 4 for the Carlisle end. It will cost a measley £35 in diesel if you are desperate. Living in York it takes me about 2 and a bit hours there and another couple back. My time is free - but it's your call whether you want this service, after all we are all Saints fans. Money up front of course - some of you may not know me from Adam, but I'm as genuine and honest as the day is long. I'll be at The Green Man will fellow Codgers on the day - but I will be happy to post tickets inclusive of the price of diesel.
  10. I remember all that - the Met didn't know what hit them! By all accounts nor did the Skates...I think we won on both counts!
  11. How about all the Saints fans meeting at Covent Garden for a nice reunion on Saturday around midday - or maybe around 17.30? I seem to remember a little incident in the smoke after a cup game in London in the 1980's atthe afore mentioned location...don't think the Metropolitan Police will have thought of both sides being in the capital on the same day as the matches are virtually 24-hours apart...except....I know plenty going up the day before because of travel problems. I wouldn't go to that match if it was the last ever game of football - but I always like a skinny latte in Covent Garden! Good job it's not Billings Gate - or else we would have to make it a Skate free zone!
  12. Remeber at Cardiff they tried to segregate everyone and there were loads of Arsenal fans near us- it was supposed to be a Saints only area! They did absolutely nothing when people protested - it'll be the same at Wembley too I would expect. Best hurry up before Carlisle send all their tickets back - about 2,500 going back according to The Echo!
  13. I have the same dilemna - whilst I would love to see us back at the top, I am very happy with League 1! From an economics view - I can afford to go fairly regularly at these prices, but I couldn't justify going to Chelsea or Arsenal at those prices. I love football generally and if I want a fix of "top quality" I'll watch it on TV. Nothing replaces the excitement and buzz I get from watching Saints, but not at any cost! There is a certain pleasure in knowing you can make a decision on the day to go and watch your team home or away. There always seems to be a friendly welcome where ever we play these days. The landlords of the local pubs appreciate a decent away following - and I think we genuinely have had a bigger following (away from home) this season than in recent years. I'll always go and watch my team - but not at stupid prices! I must admit I find it hard to swallow that at Tranmere we paid £20.50 on the turnstile - yet their last home game was £13.50 for away fans (so the operator told me)...so we even get ripped off in this league! Not sure waht can be identified aas good value - but I have loved this season more than many of the recent horrors we have had to suffer. The Premiership - it's not all it's cracked up to be! Another trip to Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge for another drubbing - defeatest perhaps but unless we recruit a load of mercenary "couldn't care less players" that's what it will be. Perhaps the CCC is a happy medium, but I remember people on this forum describing that as second rate. Second rate perhaps but at least the games had some soul!
  14. Big sticks on show all the time - Liverpudlian Cops think they are untouchable! Even joked with one before the game about walking down the street tapping them on the pavement. They are arrogant at best - and deal with some right scalleys! It's no good whinging after the event - you want to wise up! Police are public servants paid to do a job - keeping the peace and confronting trouble head on is a day to day occurence up there. Call heavy handed - but once that whistle went for full time - the game is over! The banter should have stopped then, and gone on outside over a beer! Honestly sometimes I wonder if Saints fans don't deserve the bad press they get due to the small minority wanting a ruck! Having said all that it did get some chanting going and add to the atmosphere... "You Skate B*st*rd!"
  15. Having been back a while now and given my opinions on the Echo site (where it cost nowt all day as many posts as you want!) here's my 5 pennyworth! The team was effective as a unit. Were undone by an early goal - dubious free kick? Got back in it and should have gone in ahead. Came out second half all guns blazing - but the ref gave them very little in the way of free kicks or decisions on 50/50s. I thought we got lucky when caught on the break and Kelvin made a super save to keep us in it. We had a blantant penalty waved away when Barnard was clearly pushed in the back - and yet he gives one at the other end! Not sure about the Fonte penalty shout - too incensed by the then. Talking from years of experience - it hurt the players. I have never seen a team approach a ref on the final whistle like that for a long time - they were livid... Said it before and will say it again - I really enjoy my awaydays in this league, and as long as we play with passion and desire League 1 will do for me. Cheap tickets in plentiful supply, decent pubs close to the ground with "nice" staff and no plastics. It's almost like what I remember following Saints used to be all about except at a less intense level. I'd expect Pardew to keep his job until December 2010 - but if we are not top and romping away in League 1 by then I expect there to be a reaction at the top. We have a great squad, some fantatstic individuals and a great patient fan base. Going places? Yeah that will be Hartlepool, Wallsall and Carlisle - and I can't wait!
  16. Who says we can't do it? This could be the greatest feat since the great escapes of yesteryear! Tranmere next - and then Leeds! One game at a time!
  17. Great win - I feared the worst after Wallsall scored first! Not sure what to make of the "face of thunder" claims - perhaps a Championship vacancy is going to arise and the club has asked permission to speak to Pardew & NC said "NO". After all the gesturing about better results Pardew could be feeling insecure and an approach could be a get out clause? I have a face like thunder sometimes but it means absolutely nothing - I expect this is absolutely nothing too. I wonder if we will get more than 2-mins this week on the Football League Show?
  18. No other favours in other games tonight with Millwall and Hudderfield both winning - so now 19-points off the play-offs. Still 48-points to play for...how many do we need now? I think it would be unforgiving to write off our chances now - but looking very remote. Some of you out there will try and get me to believe we can still do it - but I heard all that last year with the Dutch clown talking about avoiding relegation! The conditions and the pitch will be to blame along with a spirited Wycombe performance. B*ll*cks!
  19. A penalty on 93 mins would do me - looks like the onlty way we will score!
  20. A good all round performance by the sounds of it - now can I get to Wycombe? One game at a time please lads - Wycombe next - and hopefully another 3-points although they managed a 1-0 win over Millwall today! All we can do is qwin our games - Leeds are in free fall, and what betting we end up with them at Wembley in May IF we make the playoffs? Much happier than this time last week - the "A" team has obvious bite and composure! For me Huddersfield at SMS is a real 6-pointer in a couple of weeks - if we can win all our games up to then they will be dead worried about coming to SMS. With some sensible ticket pricing the crowds could be close to sell outs for the home games - just what the doctor ordered. If the club want the big time invest in the crowds for the rest of the season.
  21. When can we expect some news now they have presented their current financial situation? Surely there is no chance they can pay off their current debts...never mind the ones for the rest of the season! I actually sent an e-mail to the HMRC yesterday demanding they be wound up - as they have had an unfair advantage over other teams in The Premiership and FA Cup! Still awaiting a response!!!
  22. The Green Man - I visited there before the 1976 Cup Final. Full of Mancs back then...& I remember a particular reference to a barmaid...still she'll be nearly 60 now! Don't remember much parking - but a very big beer garden!
  23. Really think we have run out of games. I'd love to see us in a play off position - but there are so many ifs and buts to take into consideration. All we can do is try and win every game - and see what happens. Not saying the lads don't try to win every game - but some teams are just not intimidated by us and actually up their game. We need to be ruthless - not just try to hold on to a 1-0 or 2-0 lead but go for the jugular. Send out a message. Unfortunately is we scrape 1-0s everyone thinks they have a chance and play twice as hard! Thinking another trip to Wembley would be fantastic - but remember there is a small 2-leg affair with someone else in the top 6 first. Not even going to contemplate who at this stage - but I think Leeds will be in the mix and in our way!
  24. Didn't think it was that bad considering I had a drive back to Yorkshire! Might have been something to do with going to The Alex for 90-mins after the game and then walking to Jansen Road to get my car. I was home in the usual 4-hours without any hold ups on any of the route. I do something similar after most games - leaving Southampton a good 1-1.5-hours after the final whistle. It doesn't seem to matter - I'd rather be having a relaxing post match drink (even if non-alcoholic) than sitting in traffic. It's a full day out - perhaps more fans should do this as there is really only one road out of the City - down The Avenue if you are heading North. Top day out apart from the result - but it won't matter after 1st March 2010 - RIP PFC!
  25. After a very long day yesterday - 4-hours in the car, 3-hours in the pub, the quickest 90-minutes I can recall, another hour and a half in the pub followed by another 4-hours in the car, and waching the FACup highlights (sadist that I am) I have the following thoughts: 1) I could not believe the intensity of the noise inside SMS until watching the highlights. 2) W******d is a w*nker 3) They have a very nasty minority hell bent on trouble (outside Entrance A after the game) 4) James got lucky at least 3-times before they scored 5) Barnard so desperate to score - he cost us an equaliser (sorry Lee) 6) The Itchen really rocked 7) I thought we were immense for 70-mins - and tired When Antonio comes off the right wing to take long throws on the left - why doesn't someone cover the right side of the field? Three of their goals came from the same error. 9) Pompey really got out of jail - Kelving nearly stopped two of their efforts - although I thought he was a bit at fault for the first and third. 10) I had mated from all over saying we were the better team for much of the game 11) Proud to be a Saint 12) Forget about JPT until March 27th - onwards and upwards 13) Will the team stay together next season? 14) Fantastic day out - spoilt my a few mongs from down the M27 15) Yesterday demonstrates to me why we don't want to be ny part of The Premier League...had to queue for toilets, rush my drink - and then leg it to a pub before they locked us out! Having been there I would love to know how the atmosphere came across for those who had to watch the TV... Even at 3-1 down it seemed to be rocking around us!
