  1. Rooney may well get a run out, at least off the bench, as his return from injury was said at the weekend as around 2 weeks, just in time for some match fitness testing at SMS.
  2. Indeed. I think we/Mr Cortese should kindly put us forward as guinea pigs to trial a new safe-standing terrace. The FA could also part fund the alterations required, can't say fairer than that It's a dirty job, but someone's got to do it
  3. TBF I can remember hearing old Rosey Red Cheeks praising us over the Christmas period last season. He was doing a radio interview in which he mentioned that we were a top club and was very impressed that we'd just had over 30k at SMS in the third division. Funnily enough he never mentioned the 6-3, 3-1, etc. etc.........
  4. I'd suggest that the players would certainly be lifted playing in front of a full stadium (regardless of size) than a half empty one, the fans also. Playing in front of a packed 8k Withdean probably gives a better buzz than a half empty stadium many times bigger. 40k inside Old Trafford would feel a lonely place.
  5. I would say Carpy's just getting her little knickers in a twist now that she's realised the rest of the footballing world are beginning to wake up to their dispicable antics of the past few years. Dirty cheats
  6. "Slummer" would probably be more appropriate for residents of portsea island
  7. I think you give the dinlo far too much credit.
  8. I wouldn't say biting, I think some are just enjoying slapping the stupid little **** round the head like he deserves. I suggest we all have a whip round, refund him (or the "Saints fan that paid it" for him, apparently there's loads in Manchester) and send him off back down the A27.
  9. He's Brighton.........uh, no..........he's Man Utd and lives in Manchester............a Saints fan paid his membership........................ Guess he achieved what he wanted in a confused stupid kiddie type of way
  10. The first "scum" reference to them (I personally favour the "blue-few", it just fits so well!) I remember back in the 70s was, changing 'pom' to 'scum' and naming them 'scum-pey'. But back then they barely impacted on our lives and while they just got more and more bitter at being so insignificant in the region "scummers" just became a regular part of the limited portsea vocabulary. And then they invented that "dock strike" story. How we all laughed.
  11. Agree with most of this, I wouldn't put it past 'BHA' on here and a couple of 'Saints' posters on NSC being one of the same, namely a mischievious little skate stirring it up. They all make so many obviously incorrect and stupid statements it's got to be a wind-up. I'd also say Brighton are very likely fill their new stadium fairly easily, particularly if they go up and I believe they're offering adult Season Tickets in advance for something like £370, not bad for what will probably be Championship footie. They were capable of 33,000 at the old Goldstone the last time they were up there. Brighton 'and Hove' and a relatively unchallenged area for a 40-mile Sussex radius suggests there's plenty out there for them to entice. Although I think 'Simster' has selective memory if he really can't remember a few of the old 'Warrens' breaking through that barrier to send their North Stand boys scampering down the terrace, it was the league game 77/78. The Seagulls were a little light on their toes all day that day!

  13. I can confirm I sit/stand behind 'Windy Miller' at SMS.
  14. If, and I would love to see it happen, safe terracing was introduced, it wouldn't be just a single block as those chosing to sit in the neighbouring blocks would spend half the match looking someone's arse. At SMS It would have to be an entire end or an upper section, as it is now, and to make it work for totally would have to wrap round the corners too. That must be an area presently of about 6,000 seats.
  15. I'm happy to believe Mr Cortese, I've heard nothing more concrete to the contrary, guess we'll all be a little more sure come 31st January 2011.
  16. In the eighties it was 'John 3:16' this 'John 3:16' that, now all we get is 'Jeremiah 17:9'. He could do with a plaster btw.
  17. ...The Strand and 'Hari and Al' adorning city centre subways circa 1970s.
  18. I think that may have been a BBC South programme - got it on tape somewhere and if I still had a video recorder I could have checked. BTW, CHEATS.
  19. A re-branding of the 'Travel Club' is way over-due. It's always had the 'Bingo Bus' image, the kind of thing you'd expect to see going from the Darby-and-Joan on a day trip to Eastbourne. The powers that be at the club would do well to re-invent it, I'm sure someone could come up with a more imaginative and inspiring name for starters. Ditching the old image may encourage more to use it - only in emergency situations of course!
  20. We don't put nearly enough pressure on visiting defences at SMS. We get a corner, we'll usually get a quick "...clap-clap-clap-clap, the Saints" followed by an equally quick and feeble "COYR" and then, well that's about it. You don't necessarily need to sing just make a sh*t load of noise to put the fear of Christ into the keeper/defenders who've got their backs to the crowd. It's often the same when we're attacking, most notably the Chapel, a big hostile roar lifts our players, rattles the opponents.
  21. Brighton fags, oops typo see how easy it is, fans singing "You're just a small town in p*mp*y" was however brilliant and original. Boring but just done to easily wind each other up. Many of our 'chants' are sh*t and make little sense so I wont lose any sleep if some upset a few uppity seagulls.
  22. The only way they'd open Blocks 1 and 2 would be if all other areas were sold out. It's unlikely it would be like the 'good old days' anyway as it wouldn't be the same Block 1/2 mob that used to get in there, just any old latecomers.
  23. I agree with you, although I reckon it'll be nearer 27k come kick-off, but I think we beat ourselves up a bit too easily over the "missing 7k" or so. There's very few clubs that wouldn't see a dramatic dip in attendances dropping a couple of divisions out of the Prem. Leeds and Sheff Wed were capable of over 40k in the Prem but have had league crowds under 15k in this division. To put it in perspective, Wednesday recently played Huddersfield in a 'local derby' at Hillsborough and got a crowd of 20k, including between 4 and 5,000 Hudders fans who made the 30 mile trip. The same night we played Dagenham & Redbridge, got an almost identical crowd including just a couple of hundred Daggers. Tonight we'll play a 'local-ish derby' and get 26,000-plus - not bad for the third division!
  24. "Mong", you do make me smile and remind me a bit of myself when I was young and stupid.
  25. Yeah, so keep the Brighton fans in for 20-30 minutes and it gives everyone, who wants to, to get back to the pub without the potential of a confrontation.
