To Renew or not to Renew ..........
100%Red&White replied to Bourne Valley Saint's topic in The Saints
You don't know who's on a wind-up on here these days but if that's true that's a hefty discount and would probably made it cheaper than what he paid last season. Maybe I'll have to phone up and cancel. I did get a nice card saying 'thank you' through the post though, there must be money sloshing around SMS . -
I've been going for well over 4 decades and I've never taken it up the arse. I've witnessed relegation in 74 and twice in recent times, seen Lawrie Mac, Bally, Keegan, Shearer and countless others fook off, all very disappointing but that's life for yer everage football fan. I've seen us within a whisker of going pop, Southampton FC are a mid-size Premier League club with a bright future with the academy, if Cortese had got us to the CL it's very (very) unlikely we'd have stayed at that level, can you imagine the meltdown then? If the worst was to happen I'll get over it, I've had my best days supporting this club outside the top division.

When you say "board" I'll take it you mean this message board. The biggest 'jokes' in all this are all the wrist-slitting drama queens saturating the forums - some ****s are leaving themselves nowhere to go if it don't look quite so bad come August.

5 years ago when he joined us in League One as a 28 year old striker, who'd never played at a higher level, he must have thought this was his last big move at that age. He was no doubt pinching himself when he first stepped out in the Premier League and in the past year he's scored on his England debut, he's going to the World Cup Finals in Brazil and now about to join his hometown club who'll be challenging for the title and Champions League next season. He's probably doubling his wages too. Dreams are made of this stuff. He'll get a run-out in the cups and off the bench in the Prem and CL to play a role that may have seen the scallies pip Man City if they'd had a 'Rickie Lambert' back in May. He possibly had one year left in him at St Mary's, can't see any longer at Anfield, he'll be 33 in Feb and by the end of the season without the game time fitness levels may drop. But what an end to a career! Cheers Rickie, it's been memorable, who could deny you this move?
-
Wow, do you walk from west London? At least QPR is a good away day and hopefully the day we play them is 'onest 'arry's last game before getting the old heave-ho.
-
Give it a year at WHL and that'll probably be the case.
-
I caught a bit of TS this morning as they were reviewing the papers (and responding to Warnock's comments on the matter), all the talk was about Pochettino's imminent arrival at WHL. When it was briefly mentioned who should replace him at St Mary's, Danny Kelly suggested - with what I imagined a straight face - one Harold Redknapp. I kid you not. The journalist with him barely batted an eyelid.

The club had to go out and buy adidas stuff from various outlets last summer as they failed to deliver promised items for pre-season. Saints weren't the only ones to suffer, West Brom were also badly affected. It was a catalogue of f*ck-ups and Cortese was surely within his rights to kick up a fuss - but as we all know about his personality, he may have been a bit OTT. It wasn't exactly a secret that there was a new Saints/adidas store planned for West Quay which never happened, I guess there just wasn't enough stock available to fill it! Possibly breach of contract?

Well, if nothing else, it's fairly unobtrusive as many shirt sponsors go. And we can revive the old 'Theo' Walcott chant that will be available once Luke Shaw goes to Man Utd/Chelsea/Liverpool/delete as appropriate.

Am i the only one who thinks the club badge is naff?

Went for a bit of history, Southampton has been a major working port since the middle ages, thought it was a bit more romantic than a container ship -

I still think a ship would have been preferable to a tree, stick it on the right shirt and it would be luvverly. IMO ,of course. -

Ooo 'ello sailor - we could have the campest looking badge in football! -

I'd agree with this. I don't know why our badge would have included a 'New Forest' tree, this football club represents my city not something nearby, maybe we could chuck a star and crescent on there too. I'd have thought the tree represented city's parks if anything but it would have been far more significant to have had a ship on it instead, there's nothing people around the world associate more with Southampton than the port. Maybe it should have shown a grungy old docker Personally I'd ditch the lot other than the ball and halo and do something around that. -
An excellent point Mr T.

We're lucky to have a strong midfield, this gives JWP the opportunity to develop without too much pressure as he's mainly cover when we have injuries or from off the bench. He's in the England set-up for a reason. Sold out. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/tickets-saints-vs-everton-1455506.aspx

Poetry in motion, as usual.
-
Bit surprised they told you this as it was always likely to sell out quickly, only a couple of thousand tickets, and being last away game there was always going to be a big demand price cut or not.
-
F*ck me, have you ever listened to show? I've no doubt there's plenty of clubs looking at our players, inevitably some will put in offers and I'll be amazed if they're all running out for us at SMS in August, but I'd still put that particular report down as bullsh*te. How the f*ck would they know who and how much the mancs were setting sights on? Just the latest speculative bullsh*te after our reported 'financial crisis ' this week.
-
The guy who did it is a club employee, so probably not.
-
This is going around in an email and apparently on the walls at the training ground Personally, I think they should just concentrate on the football. Latest BS from talkSH*TE http://talksport.com/football/manchester-united-plotting-sensational-ps50m-swoop-southampton-14040386032
-
Director of Sport rather than a Director of Football Saints Ice Hockey anyone?
-
I'm a bit surprised they've never utilised that great big advertising space on top of the Itchen Stand roof which sits right under the flight path to/from Southampton airport - not the busiest flight path in the world but a potential revenue stream.

Pulis Bigs Up Saints Academy (and Saints in general)

Tbh, who doesn't know about our style of play these days - and how to beat it? Not complaining, hope we stick with it, just need to add the quality to give the opposition a few more things to think about. -
Well from where I sit in the Kingsland it came over better than most and almost constant, Chelsea was pretty good too. Man Utd will no doubt top the lot in May. Thing is what passes for good these days is still pretty sh*t and can't think of any other standout supports this season.
