Is there anything good we can say about Pellegrino?
100%Red&White replied to whelk's topic in The Saints
As he was just about the complete opposite of how Reed billed him when he arrived, it has shown up the poor judgement again of those responsible for bringing him in and raises the question of where did they get this information from? His previous managerial record never suggested he was anything other than what we got. I'd imagine Pellegrino's as ecstatic as we are at the news "at last, they've sacked me", he can now sit back for a few months and enjoy a few £million more in the bank balance. People not willing to take responsibility and admit their mistakes may cost us our Premier League place, heads will still probably roll in the summer if it happens. -
ericb has summed it very nicely for a lot of us, particularly of a certain age that know a different era but, fans have always moaned about the haves and have-nots. Everyone was berating Man Utd in the 80s/90s because they could buy who they wanted and pay what they wanted, and it was massively above most other top-flight clubs. Then Chelsea came along and blew them out of the water for a bit and the mancs were then all whinging about it not being fair on them. There's no doubt it's now obscene and many of us have fallen out of love with the game because of it and the soul-less, atmosphere-free stadiums that are now the norm around the country. Going to football is just not the same anymore.

I'm liking the last post on here, probably a load of ol' b*llox and his spelling is sh*te but hey... http://www.cockneylatic.co.uk/forum/5-cockney-latic-main-forum/117251-hope-it-s-friday-night And I'm liking these Wigan fans too, having had a little shufty through a couple of their forums, expectations are now rising (understandably so after the 3 they've dumped out) and also found myself agreeing with one poster who said it's only the big teams that win the cup these days, he said the only "little clubs" that had won it in recent times was "Wigan and p*rtsmouth". -

With what Wigan have just done to Man City, I'd think our tie now could be the pick of the round for TV. They'll be expecting another giant killing and Wigan probably have the nation's heart right now. But have they heard of Wigan in Asia? -

WBA still have nearly 10,000 tickets unsold and it's pay-on-the-day so if you missed out... -
This was almost exactly 2 years ago: http://soccer.nbcsports.com/2016/02/04/how-southamptons-innovative-plan-to-break-into-us-market-will-work/ It's fairly obvious there's been a drastic change of direction since, particularly with Krueger's recent "small club" interview designed to rein in the fans expectations. They built those expectations with their big talk but couldn't walk the big walk.

I think we just have to accept that is the way it is. If his job was still on the line, the most important people at this club wouldn't be the other side of the world right now on a jolly in China and, in Les' case, lying on a beach in Thailand since the Brighton game.

Everyone's entitled to a 2 week holiday, OK, timings not great but.........................................................after all, the others were off partying in China.

Birmingham City are playing Millwall the same day, New Street will be a bit angsty. Always been one of my favourite away days since the 70s, other than the 'main' stand, a proper football ground and two great 'ends' back in the old terraces days. -
I'm clinging to the memory of the 'Saint Valentine's Day Massacre' at the Dell in '94. Same again, ta.
-
Amazingly not. Or North London. Think further east and the dildo bros. and you'll be very warm. Just one of a few important backroom staff that's moved on in recent months.
-
I have heard he's banished to training with the kids.

You're right, segregation is generally taken out of the away allocation at most grounds but at St Mary's it's different. As I understand it, the divider on the concourse separating home and away fans determines the situation. Home fans couldn't have any more of Block 41 unless the visitors only take the small allocation up to the next concourse divider and giving up the entire block.
-
The rules have been in place for years (and repeated on here time after time), in the Premier League visiting clubs are entitled to a minimum 10% of the gate up to 3,000. Some clubs, like us, offer slightly more only due to segregation issues on the concourse (around 3,200). For cup games, I believe, you have to give up a minimum 15%. Brighton only had what they were entitled to, it's not their fault if most of our fans aren't very loud.

0-0, the pain goes on.

They seem quite up for the cup, hopefully we feel the same, a nice distraction from the usual turgid league affairs. If you look on their forums they're generally happy with the draw and see it as a good chance to progress. They're also saying we'll get the entire Smethwick End unless SFC only choose to take the usual league allocation as it's not possible to split it with home fans any other way. I think it was nearer 12,000 we took up there in 1976, a different era, but it would be good to see Saints fans get a bit of cup fever again and get up there in big numbers. -
Can't believe it's not up yet, here we go... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVb3NfTf7P8

Fear not, what about the "5 Pledges", all will become clear......................................................................................................................oh, in February.

I think it was the 'Camara' match that Jamie Redknapp described the noise as the loudest he'd ever experienced This won't give much of an idea of the full effect but [video=youtube;UoUOD-h6N6w]

Good news and bad news about this fixture. Good News: There's only one side in worst current form in the Premier League than Watford. Bad News: It's Southampton. https://www.twtd.co.uk/league-tables/competition:premier-league/form/matches:6/type:home-and-away

We were never going to sustain the heights we reached as an on going theme, we'll never have the clout or status of the big 7 or 8 clubs in this country, and if we're doing well, the big boys will continue to just come in and take away our best players and managers. And, Head of Recruitment, Head Cone-Putter-Outer, Head Chef, etc. if they want them, they'll get them. It was also inevitable that we wouldn't continually get it right every time we tried to replace them, cue today's scenario. Since Cortese left, and with it the ruthless ambition (ambition with somebody else's money!), complacency has set in, thinking our much lauded 'blueprint' would see us right and those in charge are showing little sign of adapting now it's not working out. But this certainly feels like another end-of-era. A couple of years ago Ralph was selling us to the states as a rapidly growing progressive club, it now sounds like things have changed and with his dumb "small club" downgrading (he could have qualified that by adding "in comparison to Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, etc.") probably knows his days here are coming to an end.

Gabbiadini should get 90 minutes, start at least, but us off a crucial home defeat, them off a big home win, they'll fancy it and we'll need a strong line-up. What could go wrong?
