  1. Thanks for the memories Ronald, genuinely grateful for two excellent seasons. However you have gone way down in my estimation for your outright lies and seemingly acting like a bit of a c**t. My main feeling is one of disappointment as I really thought he was a man of integrity, turns out he's just another greedy, classless mercenary. He'll do ok at Everton and improve them, but they won't be winning the league any time soon. Our next appointment is huge but I trust Les and co to get it right, and am still excited for the future. Moving on!
  2. Like I said, in my time watching football you have won the same as that footballing giant, Wigan, so why would I view you on a par with the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal? I also didn't realise being shown on TV a lot makes you a big club. My bad.
  3. I am 32 and can just about remember Everton winning the FA Cup in 1995. Apart from that, my whole football supporting life they have generally been a mid-table team, with some occasional forays into the top six and equally some near misses with relegation. Yes they are a bigger club than Saints, don't think any on here would deny that, but I certainly never viewed them as a significant entity in the PL like the top clubs. Of course if they start chucking huge sums of money around that may change. They could turn into the next plastic moneybags Man City (unlikely imo), or it could all go tits up ala Leeds and the skates. Neither scenario is dignified. Give me our model of sustainable, self sufficient growth any day.
  4. I'm disappointed more than anything in Koeman's actions as I naively thought he was a man of his word and would at least see out his contract. But I thank him for giving us two excellent years, and although I can't wish him well I don't hate him either and hope he doesn't get too much of a bumpy reception on his return. If he wasn't going to stay beyond next summer anyway then a parting of the ways now is best for all concerned, with the bonus for Saints of a tidy little compensation package to boot. Tbh I am not as devastated as I was when Adkins or Poch left, maybe that says something or maybe I am just used to regular change, and recognise that this great club of ours is on an upward trajectory regardless of who the manager is!
  5. Voted for Emery although I don't think it's realistic, but take him and de Boer off that list and it's a pretty underwhelming one. My hunch is that our new manager won't be any of the names on that list. Perhaps someone like Murat Yakin who was quite heavily linked before Ron got the job? I don't get the clamour for AVB. Must admit I was surprised to read he had a record points haul at Spurs but I think a large part of that was down to having Bale, plus IIRC they actually finished fourth under Redkrapp before AVB took over. He was hated by Chelsea fans and not much more popular among Spurs fans, and my over-riding memories are of him looking like a rabbit caught in the headlights, and also a pretty dull style of play. I'd much rather gamble on Howe than AVB.
  6. Dear god, that's some serious delusion, I almost feel sorry for them.
  7. Agree, that is a cracking picture and a credit to all involved! The last three managers all pictured together and looking very much at ease, not sure you'd get that at many other clubs.
  8. 1. Man City at home, convincing win that gave belief we could still get Europe. 2. VVD 3. Cuco Martina 4. The ref nicking Sadio's hattrick ball after the City game! 5. Everton in the first home game, we were shocking. Just shows you can't read too much into early season games. 6. Cuco v Arsenal 7. Pelle away to Chelsea 8. Can't think of one 9. I predicted 9th pre season 10. Mane's winner vs Liverpool, mental scenes
  9. Your first sentence was all that was needed. There is an impact, and even younger people still need to use the NHS and other services, although I would argue the main impact is on housing, which is already under severe pressure even before taking the immigration issue into consideration. Several hundred thousand people coming in every year, have to live somewhere, when local people are already struggling to afford a home.
  10. So you don't think that hundreds of thousands of people entering the country every single year has any impact on services?
  11. Absolutely agree with this, I'm sick of hearing about the political 'personalities' on both sides. Who supports what side should be completely irrelevant. My feelings on the economy are that we may well suffer a bit in the short term, but long term would recover and be fine. Likewise immigration is the biggest issue for me and it's imperative that we regain some kind of control over the people and numbers we let in. This is likely our last chance to do so. We are already the second most densely populated country in Europe and even without mass immigration the demand for housing far outweighs supply. As long as the EU insists on freedom of movement there's no way I could ever vote remain.
  12. Wow that is absolutely fantastic news, well done Saints!
  13. Not that I believe this will happen even for a split second, but I honestly wouldn't want him here. Apart from the fact I think he is a little overrated, he would be poisonous to team harmony and cost an insane amount of money, even if it was just for a year. His ego wouldn't fit inside SMS. I'd much rather we built a team of younger dynamic players who have more hunger and are only likely to improve.
  14. Says he who keeps on persisting with the classic 'little Englander' jibe.
  15. Perhaps, and if the EU was just about a trade deal then I don't think many people would have a problem with it, but it's not is it. The basic facts are that for as long as we are a member of the EU, there are many aspects of our own policy making and laws that we simply have no control over, and that is unacceptable to a lot of people.
  16. Here you go http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20160418-vote-southampton-fans-player-of-the-season-2015-16-3066366.aspx 1. VVD 2. Long No one else even close imo.
  17. Aside from MLG, Marian is my favourite ever Saints player, so many good memories from his time here and similarly to Le Tiss, we would have been relegated earlier had it not been for some of his goals. A good read, thanks.
  18. This. I'm not the biggest fan of drums/clackers etc but was at Leicester last season and the place was absolutely rocking, nothing like SMS of late. The whole stadium was contributing and they had a good range of songs too. I don't believe our fans are less passionate as on occasions we have an excellent atmosphere but it is getting worse and worse and regardless of what's happening on the pitch it does spoil the enjoyment for me. There are clearly plenty who want to create atmosphere but the will needs to be there to actually organise something, as other clubs have done, otherwise it will continue to get worse. Likewise I'm in Kingsland North which used to be good, but would go wherever the atmosphere was, don't care if it's near away fans or not.
  19. As a 32 year old I guess I'm still classed as the younger generation and am voting leave. Seems to me a lot of the older voters are voting remain.
  20. Shock horror, I am English so yes of course for me it is Eexit. I don't support the union and couldn't give a toss what Scotland, Wales and NI do after the vote.
  21. The acoustics must be really bad at SMS, I'm in Kingsland North and thought the atmosphere was dreadful, also didn't hear a peep from the Chapel. The lack of atmosphere at games is really denting my enjoyment of watching Saints lately. The last couple of minutes were good though!
  22. Yes the atmosphere was awful until the last couple of minutes. Our support really is crap.
  23. Today highlighted perfectly why imo we need to make signing a new no.10 in the summer a priority. Davis in particular was shocking today but the midfield as a whole was so slow and ponderous, with no drive or creativity. Yet at the same time they offered little protection for the defense. I've been very critical of Big Vic this season but he had probably his best 45 minutes in a Saints shirt when he came on, and tbh I think he owed us that. Very strange game but one that will live long in the memory, the celebrations for the third goal were epic, the grazed shins well worth it!
  24. VVD is unbelievable in the air has he ever lost a header?! Excellent away win, disgusting decision to send off Mane but these mistakes don't even come as a surprise any more.
  25. Well I was at the game and thought Pelle was one of our better players, not that that's saying much. Generally held the ball up pretty well and brought others into play but never looked like scoring himself. Romeu and Bertrand were decent too, VVD motm, the rest meh. Awful ref again, looked like Fonte got the ball to me but will have to see a replay, but apart from that he made so many poor decisions it was almost comical. Shame that yet again the season seems to be fizzling out. We seriously need to work on our attacking midfield options in the summer, it's all far too slow and ponderous. Need someone with a bit of drive who can carry the ball forward. AOC or Wijnaldum would be nice!
