Chuffed to bits with that, excellent spirit to fight back twice like that and could have won it in the end. I think in the first half it was less a case of us being terrible, more that Chelsea were just very good and we struggled to live with them. As should be the case with all the money they have spent. But we were certainly much more composed after HT. Thought Theo played well and looked a threat in possession, hard to pick a MOTM as it was a real team effort but Rom and JWP ran the midfield in the second half. I agree Vestergaard has looked much improved so far, however he still gives me kittens whenever he has the ball at his feet! Well done Saints 😀

This is only Villa's second season back in the PL. We are already the 9th longest serving members despite only getting promoted in 2012. Not that that should give us any special power of course. The whole thing is a disgrace.

Pretty simple really, reducing the domestic calender gives them more room to go off playing 'lucrative' friendlies in Asia, USA or wherever, where they can rake in more money. Basically these friendlies have overtaken the League Cup and even some league matches in terms of importance. It has nothing to do with giving players a rest by playing fewer games, all about money as usual.

Yeah I think I'd be done with football if this happened, horrible ideas driven by nothing but greed from the big clubs. At some point football will eat itself.

Open minded on Theo. Yes he is past his best but maybe coming 'home' and being coached by Ralph will rejuvenate him in the twilight of his career. From a sentimental angle at least I love it, and am actually quite excited at the thought of Theo and Ings lining up together. Either way it's low risk and if it doesn't work out we are not burdened with him for another three years. If he does well, the option is there to sign him on a free in the summer. If Ralph wants him that's good enough for me.

He was referring to the 2-2 post lockdown at Old Trafford in which Armstrong scored. Lovely goal by Djenepo but he was poor prior to that. Feels like we have controlled the game without getting out of second gear. Gotta expect WBA to be better second half.

I would suggest that aside from squaring up to Pellegrino after scoring that goal, his attitude appears to have been pretty good. Never heard any moaning from him or that he's caused any problems. And to suggest his level is L1/Championship is nonsense. He is clearly a talented player but it just hasn't worked out for him here. It happens.

Standard Hoj performance, lots of arm waving, giving away possession and picking up a card. Baffling how he's been built up in the media to be something special.

Stephens excellent, really? I thought the defence was all over the place yesterday and would have been punished far more severely by a better team. Certainly did miss Armstrong and the lack of depth in the squad is painfully obvious in certain areas. Agree with others that Smallbone needs to be loaned out to the Champ or L1 as he is nowhere near PL level yet. He has been largely anonymous in almost every game he's played. Adams the best of a bad bunch and unlucky not to score with his effort. Disappointing start but we will improve.

Watkins is a good player but £28M is insane. Smacks of desperation from Villa.

Watched Brentford's last four or five games and he looked pretty poor in all honesty. Obviously had a good season overall though.

I smell skate.

Great way to end the season with a home win, been an incredible turnaround. I honestly thought back in October we were doomed, Ralph has done a stunning job since and the club deserve credit for backing him. A couple of good additions in the transfer window and we could have a very exciting next season. Need to get shot of Vestergaard if anyone wants him, he's a liability. Also what was with the Sky commentator, he sounded gutted when Che scored his two goals.

I've met Le Tiss a couple of times and he's a lovely bloke. Really couldn't care less what he says on Twitter and not sure why anyone else would. Once saw Delgado in La Margherita on a night out. Me and my mate went and said hi and shook his hand, but due to his lack of English there wasn't much conversation to be had! Met and chatted with Paul Telfer a couple of years ago in a work capacity. When I told him I was a Saints fan he said I must really dislike him so he certainly had a sense of humour and was very down to earth. He was just off to do some coaching in the States.

I was feeling confident until I saw Vestergaard in the lineup. Assuming Jan has an injury.

Only a loan? FFS I bet there's not even the option to buy.
-
He's not shite, he's just very average. Personally if we could get around £10M plus KWP from Spurs and then give Reed a chance as his replacement, I would be pretty happy.
-
I've always thought there's a player in there with Reed but he was a little raw and his game needed refining. Surely the whole point of loaning out our young players is to let them develop until they are at the level to get into our team, and it appears now Reed is at that point. Offer him at least a year's contract extension with the promise that he'll get a fair crack of the whip as Hojbjerg's replacement then reassess in January/next summer. If it still hasn't worked out then sell him off, if it has we have effectively got our Hoj replacement for free allowing us to fund strengthening in other parts of the team. Imo he has the attributes to fit very well into the way we play, it would be a shame to not at least see if he is up to it.

Everton have looked utterly dreadful the last few games. Annoying we couldn't beat them.
-
Love the sash kits! Imo our best home shirt for a few years, although I prefer the third kit. For the first time I'm tempted to get both.
-
Well done everyone involved, very proud of my club.

Completely agree with this, it's a myth that SMS has never had a good atmosphere. I've been a ST holder since leaving The Dell and there have been plenty of games where SMS has been rocking, sadly they have been few and far between in recent years. The feeling of apathy at home games these days is very tangible which is sad. Saturday was a lot better though, I can only hope that continues.

If we lose all of our remaining games then yes we'll go down. But we won't.

Christ there are some ridiculous over reactions on here. First half we were well in it until the sending off which completely changed the dynamic of the game and Newcastle did throw a lot at us for the last 15 before half time. However I can barely remember them having a chance in the second half, our players gave everything they had and we were only undone by a silly lapse in concentration from Valery, who that mistake aside had a decent game I thought. He is still young and was making his comeback after several months out, cut him a bit of slack. Seems like Cedric has suddenly become a world beater since leaving when in reality he was pretty poor for most of his time here and often slated on this forum. The way we battled in the second half I think a point would have been justified, it certainly wasn't a disgrace like some are claiming. A disappointing result but we should still be fine, just need to pick up a few more points here and there. Biggest positive I took away was the sense of camaraderie between the fans and players which seems to have been missing for a long time. Providing we're not playing behind closed doors that level of support needs to continue.
