I was underwhelmed by his signing, but to write him off after less than one full game in a Saints shirt is pathetic, just as it is to declare someone a huge success after a good debut (Lemina anyone)? He will need time to adapt to the fast pace and physical nature of English football not to mention the complete change in culture. Remember the Torino fans' negative opinion of him were supposedly not so much to do with his performances on the pitch. He at least looks like he is committed to be here and trying to be a success. I'd have much rather we signed a more established CB to go straight into the first team but we didn't, he's here now so let's give him our support. He may well turn out to be crap but at least give the guy a fair crack of the whip.

Whilst Tino has been excellent so far, I just can't comprehend how KWP can be left out of our strongest eleven. Ralph needs to find a solution, whether it's KWP playing instead of Tino or as well as, he's too good to be sat on our bench. To stay on topic, Moi has pleasantly surprised me so far. Whilst he hasn't been spectacular and still lacks pace he does bring a bit of composure and experience on the ball and offers a decent goal threat. At the moment I would say him and Stu once fit for the number tens.

Keith Hackett - VAR was wrong and should have been a penalty https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/19591346.keith-hackett-says-var-completely-wrong-amid-walker-red-card/ Just shows it's all about a subjective opinion, there's no 100% right or wrong.

I've got no love for Ronaldo at all but he was denied two pretty clear cut penalties there. Baffling that VAR didn't at least instruct the ref to look again on the monitor. Justice done in any case.

Ha the BBC report reckons they were noisy throughout. Maybe you were in their Chapel end. 😉 Didn't hear much from our fans tbh.

Fantastic performance, says it all that I'm slightly disappointed with just a point. Not only were we solid defensively but also offered plenty of threat going forward, unfortunately again it's the end product that let us down. Would be churlish to criticise though, they all put in a brilliant effort. Romeu MOTM for me, bossed the midfield and showed great composure in possession. Regarding the penalty I can see why it wasn't given. Walker just got himself across Arma who was already going down. In many ways it was similar to the tackle by Stephens on Fernandes in the buildup to our goal against Man Utd which most agreed wasn't a foul. Really could have gone either way, that said I've no doubt it would have been given at the other end. Credit to Ralph, so far this season he is showing far more flexibility with tactics and has actually got us looking solid at the back which is no mean feat!

What was the official attendance on Saturday?
LuckyNumber7 replied to once_bitterne's topic in The Saints
Nail on head. It feels a long time since going to St Marys has been enjoyable, in recent years I was going more out of habit and a sense of duty rather than looking forward to it. The break for Covid has broken that habit. Pricing doesn't help but I'm sure there are many who just can't be bothered any more. -
I know you love to be pedantic but is it really that difficult to understand? I haven't had and won't be having the jabs, so with vaccine passports I would not be allowed into the stadium. Up until today it has looked very likely passports would be implemented, and still might be by clubs/the PL even if not by government. Therefor I decided not to renew rather than waste hundreds of pounds on something I probably wouldn't be able to use. There were other reasons too but that was the biggest one. That's my three posts so if you still don't get it I can't help. Have a good evening.
-
Firstly I said main reason, not the only one. Second how is it daft if I literally am banned from getting in? At the time of renewals it seemed almost certain passports would be required. Even if the government don't implement them the PL likely will anyway. As I said, I'm not even missing it much anyway, the whole matchday experience at Saints has become pretty rubbish.
-
I had a ST there for nearly 20 years but didn't renew this season, mainly because of the vaccine passport nonsense. Can't say I'm missing it that much either, used to be a good atmosphere there but it's got steadily worse over the last few years with more kids/family/tourist types who have no interest in creating any atmosphere. Not to mention our diabolical home record in recent seasons.

Perraud has played two games ffs, he will take time to adjust to a new league. That said he hasn't been bad, just hasn't instantly stood out like Tino. Playing KWP out of position is a sure fire way to piss him off. He was one of our best players last season, there's no need to move or drop him. I'm fed up with us putting square pegs in round holes and now we have more depth there is no reason to do that. Perraud LB, KWP RB, Armstrong in either of the 'ten' positions with Tino either on the right or fresh and ready to come off the bench. At least we have options now but I don't want to see KWP becoming disenchanted.

Newcastle would be nothing without St Maximin, he is such a dangerous player. Quite surprised no bigger clubs have made a move for him. Would have been a travesty if we didn't get at least a point from that but it's the same old defensive frailties costing us along with not taking chances at the other end. Salisu on the whole was immense, and pleasantly surprised by Moi who had a very decent game. Looks like he may give us another viable option in the '10' position. I'm no fan of McCarthy but he did ok too, particularly on crosses and couldn't be blamed for the goals. Thought Romeu had a poor game especially in the first half, very sloppy in possession. All in all not a bad point, just wish we could learn to be more ruthless when on top. Oh and brilliant pressure penalty from Prowsey!
-
When he signed other journos were reporting it was 'closer to £40m than £25m' so depends who you believe. Either way it was still a great deal, having a very good player here for a couple of years or so then make a big profit. Obviously the higher the better.
-
He looks like a bit of a character/psycho/nutjob, which with our team of son-in-laws might just be what we need. I'm keeping an open mind on him. He at least looks happy to be here which is a good start.
-
I think he's started the season well, just needs to improve his end product. Has great skill which often gets him into dangerous positions but too often the final ball lets him down or he delays too long. That can be worked on though. Also while I certainly don't want to see him playing LB, I think he's better defensively than some on here give him credit for.
-
Armstrong is quite obviously Ings' replacement. Him and Adams will be our first choice, with Broja and Tella as backup, possibly Obafemi too if he stays. Not to even mention Long. That is perfectly acceptable for a club of our size.
-
Comes across very well in that, very mature for his age, enthusiastic but with a bit of character too. Think he'll be a real hit!
-
This makes zero sense to me. Signing backup means signing worse than what you already have, we should be aiming to improve. Salisu will obviously be first choice now which is fine, but if Lyanco is not good enough to displace Stephens or Bednarek then we shouldn't be signing him.
-
Think you answered your own question there. Unless injured, the omissions of Armstrong and KWP are utterly baffling.
-
Not sure where people are getting this idea that we'll sign two CBs. Unless of course Stephens or Bednarek depart. Signing Lyanco will give us four senior CBs plus Simeu which is fine in terms of numbers. I'm not overly enthused by him but let's give him a chance before completely writing him off. Anyone expecting another centre back to come in better prepare to be disappointed.
-
Considering how shit our CBs are, if we are signing someone to be backup to them we have big problems. Can't say I'm very enthused by this signing but I'll reserve judgement until I've seen him play.
-
Never heard of him, but Torino have leaked goals for fun the last couple of years which is a bit worrying. Guess he'll fit in well!
-
We only need to sign one CB (unless any leave) as that would give us 4 in total plus Simeu which is plenty. Meanwhile we still only have one LB in the whole squad and I'm fed up of having square pegs in round holes. Neither Salisu or Djenepo are the answer there, a young player who can develop and act as backup is perfect. If he's that highly rated then £5m isn't that big of a gamble.
-
Exactly why I didn't renew my ST

Jannik Vestergaard - Official: Signs for Leicester
LuckyNumber7 replied to ChiefScummer's topic in The Saints
Don't agree with this at all. Salisu looks promising but is very inexperienced and the jury is still out on him at this point. Bednarek, to put it bluntly was garbage last season. We need to replace Vest with someone good enough to start (alongside Salisu) as that is how you evolve the squad. Signing players to be backup to players who aren't very good is asking for trouble.
