Obviously a question for expats and current non-domiciled Sotonians. Having grown up in the City and supported my local team since a kid, the Saints is my only link with my past. All my relatives are dead or no longer live in the City. Personally, apart from going to St.Mary's I find Southampton rather dull and provincial. Maybe that is because I live near London. Anyhow would you go back to live in Southampton?

Not true. He stood routed to his line on several ocassions and one ocassion Clyne could not believe he would not come for it. It is EXACTLY that indeciseness that undermines the confidence of the rest of the defence. His kicking last Saturday was laughable.

Very interesting read. Never realised Freemantle were competing with us in those days. looks as though his time in Fareham unbalanced his mind !!!!

You obviously do not do sarcasm or understand irony, mate

Yes still angry. I went and busted a gut to get there. I hope that MOPO learns to give his interviews in English soon as what he communicated last Saturday was disrespect for both us fans and the FA Cup. I still feel that a glorious opportunity has been wasted and how many opportunities do you get in a lifetime , watching Saints, to taste some glory? Does that mean I can appreciate our play this season.Yes of course I can. I purred watching them at Hull and at Fulham which makes the surrender on the Wear even more galling..

It is all about expectations. Cortese raised the bar that fighting relegation was not an option but that we should set our sights higher including champions league. So I would argue that being miffed that we sent out an understrength team last week shows a lack of both ambition and respect. We win nothing by being 7th or 8th. It may be an achievement in many fans eyes. I have watched Saints since 1961 so I can compare many of the sides. The nearest we have had to winning anything major besides the FA cup was in 1984.Until we win the league, get champions league or Europa league or a cup we will not be successful in the eyes of our current owners and dare I say it fans that have raised their expectations as well.

The club is no longer run FOR the fans...............

I was born in the City, grew up watching them as a kid and was lucky enough to play for them. I have an affinity and identity with my home town club Unashamedly I am a fan. I have had more lows than highs watching and supporting Saints. I do not go to "watch games" I could do that at home. I go to watch my team. The reaction from the result from many of us "fans" from Saturday was that we had been "conned" and that the club showed little respect for both the competition and those that had made the 600 mile round trip by deliberately fielding an understrength team when all the buildup by the CLUB itself was otherwise. That is why I believe that FF and many others like me are so hacked off. It is an issue of respect that sadly vanished by our club. However, I was delighted to hear young Luke Shaw has at least recognised this and has apologised. This board may not represent all sections of our fan base but the overwhelming reaction to Saturday was I believe genuine it is not often I heard our fans boo the team after the game at Sunderland. They were not the minority either. -
Does anyone give a damn. Our season ended Saturday

The club is no longer run FOR the fans...............

It is now Monday so quite a lot of time has elapsed from saturday. I think FF has hit the nail on the head with the sentiment of many fans after that display by both team and management that spoke volumes about their priorities which regrettably do not gel with us fans. To those of us who made the effort to go we were given the proverbial two fingers by the club. That is why so many, including me , are still angry. It hurts that we had a great chance of glory. Glory that us fans dream about. Glory of a cup final. Instead we got a urinal performance and the first to the through was the Manager. It was and still is unacceptable. -

Agreed . The danger is disenfranchisement. If a customer does not feel valued or has poor communication with a supplier he eventuallly goes elswhere. As a fan you cannot divorce the football team you support but you can take other actions such as: 1. Stop attending matches altogether 2. Go to selected matches 3. Stay at home and watch streams Now in today's market this will not make a great deal of difference to the income stream of a Premier League Club but eventually it will as advertisers do not like empty stadiums and as with all "bubbles" the premier league model is unsustainable . That said I am still mightily pi..ed off with Saturday especially as I was one of the 850. -

No No no. It was once a sport. When I signed on for Saints years ago it was because I wanted to play football. Even today most pros will tell you that you have to enjoy what you do and develop your skills.Lucky you if you are obscenely paid to do so. Years ago the major income was through the turnstiles and less we forget it still is outside the premier league. Yesterday at Sunderland was more than just a defeat it was the attitude of the Club towards fans like me who had busted a gut to go and got disrespect for OUR efforts. Now I also am a businessman and I know that if I treat my customers (fans) with contempt then they will go somewhere else or just become an arnchair fan frustrated at poor video streams. -
Ok I am still mightily miffed at our pathetic performance at Sunderland that was instigated by poor selection and an apprarent attitude of indiference towards the Cup. I think that MOPO has had enough timer to learn our language but more importantly he now needs to learn that he has to recover the respect of our fans. He can do so by getting rid of his intepreter and showing some empathy with those like me who busted a gut to get to Sunderland and got Jesus giving a squad rotation sermon. Sorry not buying into that any more. You are in England speak English but more importantly show you care. My apologies to those who cannot interpret that I am asking for MOPO to give interviews in English as I understand he speaks the language quite well

Excellent post and perfectly summarised the sentiment from yesterday. I went and I am still seething that my dream has been stolen and shattered by the spin doctors by the club and the team selection that claerly stated that we do not give a f..k

So finishing above Man U is more important than silverware?
Goalie66 replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
No it wont. The club have given two fingers to us fans.It is not the fact that we lost at Sunderland but the creation of false expectation by the Club to fans who travelled 600 miles in **** conditions to a late morning kick off. We expected that this game ,quote Llalana "Was game of the season". There was no passion or skill. I could not believe this was the same club that destroyed Hull during the week. MOPO , for whatever reason screwed up here badly. An apology might assuade some of the bad feeling but what have we got to play for now? Oh sorry I forgot more money. How silly -
If we are not serious about any of the Cups why enter them? The issue is the serious and chasm like difference between what us fans crave and what modern managers perceive as their priority. The Premier league has devevalued both cup competitions whereas for fans of teams like Saints, the only potential glory are through those roots. That is why so many of are ****ed off with the team selection yesterday and the subsequent performance. We missed a wonderful chance for glory sacrificed on the alter of finishing eigth. FFS

I got up at 4.30am. Discovered that most of the trains were cancelled but was fortunate to get the only train leaving for London from Woking at 6.30am Poor Le God Third coming could not get any trains from Hersham so he was screwed. Got to Waterloo and then Bakerloo to Picadillly to discover all Picadilly trains delayed.Rushed out of station got a taxi(cost £12) to Kings X. Made the 8.11 to Sunderland by three minutes. Freezing cold and miserable in Sunderland. Climbed to Everest to my seat and watched utter crap. Like all those fans whop made super human efforts to go to the game we expected at least somewhere near the same effort by the team. Not often you hear boos ringing out at the end of the game but understandable. At least the Ruddles was £1.69 a pint and boy did I drink a few to erase that dross. So so disapointing
