Having watched MLT throughout his career at SFC and the sincere loyalty he has always had towards the club and the time he has always had for the fans he will still always be the same MLT to me. It’s these things that make me believe his honestly about the betting is also sincere, that he made a mistake once and learned from it knowing it was the wrong thing to do and didn’t repeat it, a bet that was with undertaken from a player with proven loyalty to SFC with an SFC team mate. However, I do now wonder about other players around that time who may have been placing these type of bets that were nothing but journeymen for their clubs with no loyalty, who may also have been placing bets with a mate on the same side or worse, on an opposing side which would have a significantly higher outcome on the game being played and what it was bet on. Someone with the loyalty of MLT tried this once, how many others players without giving a toss where they played, have done it countless times at other clubs throughout the football league? It’s the ones we don’t know about that concern me… the ones who deny that they’ve done it, the ones who don’t own up to it at all, and maybe the ones who are still doing it now.

Bruce Lee - Fist of Fury school fight. Brought this movie when I was a kid in the early 80's, killed the tape rewinding this scene watching it over and over.

Just noticed there is Pompey pin badge taking centre stage at the header of our OS site too on the 92.co.uk Sky Sports banner. Couldn't those responsible for the OS site at least edit it with a smudge or something?

It's easier for me not to, just hearing some things make me smile. I didn't think this thread was about Golf, it just seems to have gone off topic and onto Golf.

Why did the ball boys have the balls taken from them?
Gigersaint replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
Doesn't multi-ball lose the keepsake value of keeping a ball after a hat trick nowadays too? -
I think in most cases it can be quite funny to hear comments from fans sat around the stands whether shouting instructions or making comments in general. There were three guys sat behind me on saturday that I think had some complimentary tickets from their company. They spent a while trying to out do each other with tales of their support over the years, then had a disagreement about which was the Northam Stand which then led to them discussing that they couldn't see any away supporters and that Brentford hadn't brought any fans down... the penny dropped with them in the five minutes or so leading up to kick off when the Brentford fans really started to make their voices heard loud and clear. To cap it off, one of them remarked on a few occasions during the game how well Murty was playing with both of his mates not noticing he wasn't playing either.

Maybe around 19-20k? When I got a ticket for my son yesterday sales were already over 15k according to the ticket office. Does anyone know roughly how many tickets get sold from walk up on the day?

Went down to get an additional matchday ticket and book signed in my lunch hour. I was told Queue then was and 1 hour and 45 minutes long... just the extra ticket it was then.

Seems odd to me that fans complain that we have had too many managers over the last several years and the club have not had any stabitlity, and then start questioning AP after just 3 league games (and 1 Cup game) and his ability as a manager, some virtually wanting him out already!?? FFS... what does it take to please some. We've all seen what happens with frequent departures and appointments. The club now have owners with fresh thinking knowing things aren't going to change overnight, maybe we as fans can do the same and remain solid in support as a change too?

I hope Hammond has signed the damn contract and wasn't there tonite...
Gigersaint replied to Crowds's topic in The Saints
Hopefully he was there to see how much we need a player like him, taking some pressure off the back four and putting a few of those balls into much needed wide players and front two who need it and want it rather than our wobbly CB's! -
I’m hoping things are not as bad as some fear so far and appear to be considering how much we have fallen in the last few seasons and how low the morale must be in the team that has seen a fair bit of disruption. Somewhere between each of the leagues there surely has to be a fair over lap of quality/skill that matches top half of league 2 to the lower half of league 1, and the same with the top half of league 1 to the lower half of the championship. Looking at some of the results of the promoted sides from league 2 who are a good match to lower teams in League 1 and quite high on confidence I would say they wouldn’t be too disappointed with the start they have made considering some of the opposition they have played so far. By the same token and taking us and Norwich as examples as teams relegated from the Championship should we really be expecting to beat some of the sides that have been strong at times at home and finishing in mid table in league 1 last season? I understand that Swindon were quite poor last season but looking at their first two games this season and the positions/morale of both teams they played would those teams not have been quite high in confidence whereas ours would be quite low? So far we have played Millwall taking a point and lost to Huddersfield who are high confidence teams challenging for promotion. Losing to Swindon away who are going to put in a fight for a home win no matter what the opposition (Maybe no worse than us losing to Palace/Derby away when back in the Prem as an equal?) and with a new manager in place trying to do the job of several people at once and probably (measured by several comments tonight) still has to learn a lot about our current squad and what they’re capable of without having much time in pre season to do so, I’m not too surprised with our current results so far. With our current team, with new players yet to settle in and with another signing or two apparently to strengthen further I believe we could still progress well in this league enough to turn over teams such as Swindon away and finish in a decent mid table position, hopefully not to far away from the play offs to give us the confidence for the big push to promotion/play offs next season. In my heart I would love to reach the play offs this season but I don’t want to raise my hopes and be disappointed if we don’t make it. We may not be strong enough after starting the rebuild this season but next season, my confidence and expectations and I hope, the players wearing the red and white stripes will also be that much higher too.

Sorry for my earlier post mocking the blue few, my Mrs has just informed me that Dr Whites won’t take the p*ss but will be there for a period…. But if pompey fans are uncertain they could be better off by at least putting a Tena on it!

That was pretty awsome, great link. I'd love to hear our support reach that kind of level with that song. Wish I could have finished work early enough to go tomorrow, especially with the support we're taking to Swindon :-(

Not knowing much about Colchester I wondered that perhaps he may often played out of position? Don't know if I'm reading more into Lamberts comment but maybe Jackson doesn't want to play out of position where he doesn't feel as comfortable knowing himself he he is far better in a CM position?
-
Could this add weight as a possibility? Lambert said: “I have always wanted Johnnie (Jackson) to stay and give it a go at Colchester, but his agent came to me and said that he wanted to leave. “That's his choice, not mine. Johnnie has said that he wants to play in central midfield, but I can't guarantee him a place in that position. http://www.greenun24.co.uk/content/greenun/sport/football/league-one/colchester-united/story.aspx?brand=EADOnline&category=ColchesterUnitedFC&tBrand=GreenunOnline&tCategory=xDefault&itemid=IPED07%20Aug%202009%2009%3A08%3A38%3A227

A judge is questioning a woman over her pending separation. “And the grounds for your divorce, madam?” “Ooh”, she replies, “about four acres, with a small stream running by…” “No”, says the Judge, “I mean what is the foundation of this case?” “Oh right”, the woman continues, “well it’s mainly concrete, brick and mortar…” “No, no”, the Judge reiterates, “What are your relations like?” “I have an Aunt and Uncle living here in town”, smiles the woman, “and my husband’s parents aren’t far from us either.” “Dear God”, pleads the Judge, “let’s try this as simply as we can. Do you have a grudge?” “Oh no”, says the woman, “we have a huge driveway – we’ve never needed one to be honest.” “Is there any in-fidelity in your marriage?” asks the Judge, now tiring. “Both my son and daughter have stereo sets”, explains the woman, “they’re always blaring out music!” “Madam”, asks the Judge, sick to the back teeth, “does your husband ever beat you up?” “Occasionally”, she replies, “about twice a week he gets up about 20 minutes before me.” “That’s it!” screams the Judge, “Why do you want a divorce?” “Oh, I don’t want a divorce”, she replies, still smiling away, “my husband does – he says he can’t communicate with me.”

I am so thankful I was lucky enough to have seen a player in the red and white stripes with the skill Le Tissier had. IMO the excitement you could feel around the ground as Le Tissier picked up the ball from 25-30 yards out with the expectation he could pull out a goal from nothing has never been repeated since he retired. The same can be said of free kicks anywhere within a 30 yd radius of goal. He was incredible to watch, the gasp from the crowd as he picked up the ball to shoot to the roar of the crowd as the ball smacks the back of the net is something I'll never forget. Amongst the many, the two that stick in my mind the most is the late free kick against Villa past Spink just after Villa had levelled to make it 1-1, think it came from a Sean Teale foul? It was a freezing cold night and that Le Tiss winner sure made the cold dissappear! And the equaliser against Newcastle when we were 2-0 down, Maddison made it 2-1 on 88 and Le Tiss hit the equaliser in the 91st... never seen so many upset Geordies getting back on the coaches on Archers Road as I did that day. Le Tiss, absolute legend for me. Thanks for so many great memories at The Dell.

Haha... Warren Aspinall. He used to play Golf at Meon Valley when I worked there in my late teens. He always used to brag about being a player for PFC and expected star treatment, clicking his fingers like he owned the place. I just used to tell him I was a Saints supporter and didn't know Portsmouth even had a team. I took pleasure many a time ignoring him and serving customers that came to the bar way after him just to keep him waiting. In fairness I probably wouldn't have done if he wasn't such a conceited tosser.

Damn Sun! Hidden out of the way and out of date... didn't notice that.

The Sun still says today that Jaidi is set to join Southampton. Last sentence on transfer page, have to hunt for this type of news these days http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/2569648/More-of-todays-stories.html

I don't know, she was checking where was still available but all of of the Northam was blocked out and she said there was nothing left and turned screen around to show me. As far as I knew if people have matchday tickets for the seat you want you can still have it but get tickets for another seat in the meantime.
-
I got my new ST today but had to get seat in Kingsland North, the girl in the ticket office said there was nothing left in the Northam.

I've been going to games on my own since '92 plus several away too. My ex wife did go with me for a few years when we were together. Being short of money prevented me having an ST since '04. But I've had a turn around in fortunes and will be renewing my ST again on Monday... again on my own. I have friends who reguarly get match day tickets so more often than not see them before a game and at half time but apart from that I'll still be watching the games alone.
