From a pilots perspective, Italian and Spanish airports are generally extremely difficult to get any sort of services from. Many don't have VIP passenger lounges, no catering facilities unless you want to spend the equivalent of the third work debt, and ATC services that require 15 read backs and pleads of 'please speak slowly' to understand what is going on. The best airport to fly into for me is Southampton, as I'm only 15 minutes from home then and most of the time get to see St Mary's from the air :-)

There are, but they are designed to exit the aircraft in an accident, not to get into the cockpit door thankfully. The number depends on the number of seats fitted.

I was only relating the GPS units, not the ACARS, that was switched off anyway.

My money would be on the GPS units starting the data link. They acquire the satellites in order to get required coverage/RAIM etc.

I've seen a fair few top premiership/major international players smoke. Not saying I agree with it or disagree as it's up to them. Like I said, they are top international players, at the top of their game, so smoking hasn't hindered their careers.

Wasn't this because of the violin sampling was a copyright they nicked, and it cost them a fortune in royalties when it was played on air? Or something like that?!
