Right okay, so we are going to take back a player who we have loaned to Brighton for the past year, under the impression that he is now ready to contribute in the Premiership at the right old age of 30...this is coming from the person who thinks we should sign Pugh from Bournemouth...crikey im glad you are not on the transfer board, we would be relegated by now... Sorry Saint Charlie but you speak absolute drivel....we are not going to give a new contract to a guy who we loaned out for a year to a lower division club...Davis actually played in the Prem Please find a brain cell and think before you write this rubbish

Firstly i am going to start my post with a bit of a rant as i haven't posted for a while...i really feel that a lot of you Saints fans are almost afraid of success...the amounts of posts i read about keeping what we have got and only adding one or two players...or trying to sign sub-standard British players...or keeping dead wood like Hammond etc...madness The club's trajectory has changed massively and it's time that fans stopped fearing success...the moment we spend a few bob you getting all these moaning old women saying we need to learn from Pompeys mistakes...give me a break The club needs to invest in order to get to where they want to be... Okay so second point...transfers...what is clear is that we will only sign players who will fit into our style of play ie very fit, good stamina, young and talented, better than what we already have... Squad analysis - So the good news is that this is easily the most talented squad we have had since 1990 and the days of Wallace, Shearer, Le Tissier and co. We have a fantastic core of young talented players in Shaw, Clyne, Cork, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Ramirez, Rodriguez and not young but very talented Lambert... So what do need??? Gk - happy to re-sign Boruc to a long term deal as he has done well. I like Frazer Forster at Celtic but no doubt they would want silly money... RB/ LB - Cover needed at this position on both sides. Ideally players who can play multiple positions and contribute in midfield also if needed. Hoping these can be filled with bargains from La Liga who know they are squad players and have to fight for their place. CB - Vital position if we are going to see improvements next season. Ogbanna, Astori, Kana-Biyik...all very good players and a significant upgrade on Hoiveld CM - We are very strong here with Morgan and Cork...but playing 2 holders means we need more depth and quality to make improvements...i love the link to Naingollan...would be an excellent purchase. Biglia would also be a wonderful acquisition as a deep holding midfield playmaker Wing - I definitely feel we could benefit from another pacy, direct winger to supplement our system...possibles here would be Ince, who would be great but English player tax may scupper that and he will more than likely end up at Liverpool...i definitely feel that the best fit would be the young Dutchman Jeremain Lens who can also play up front and definitely contribute...A left field pick could be Sosa who is playing in Ukraine...currently in the National Squad and a goalscoring winger Striker - Not an urgent position by an means...considering we play only one up front technically...Benteke would be a dream signing and one for the next 10 years but im sure he is off to one of the big boys in the summer... Osvaldo would also be another lovely signing but again maybe too tough to sign...expect a young striker from Argentina, relatively unknown here...as i think MoPo will want to take an Argy...so my pick is young Mori from River Plate Don't expect inflated British players to be joining...

Sorry Saint Charlie...but what are you smoking?? there is no room for sentiment in football...especially not from the Don The fact Hammond was in a few promotion teams means nothing...it didn't save Adkins Hammond will be gone and rightly so...decent player but the Championship is his level...doubt Brighton would want him if they got promoted... You like many other Saints fans need to wake up...the days of signing ordinary players are over...the club is looking to go places and you don't do that by carrying deadwood

I think we need 4 players and will probably get rid of a few too GK - Butland would be good...Gomes from Spurs would also be a nice addition CB - Astori would be the business...love to sign him...or Douglas from Twente would be fantastic CM - Still think we need a bit of beef in the middle, despite Cork transforming our season...i like Trotter from Millwall or maybe Tom Huddlestone if Spurs would sell Winger - I really feel one of Ince or Phillips from Blackpool would be fantastic for us...maybe Lens as an alternative I think De Ridder, Sharp, Seabourne, Dickson need to be moved on -

I think a real quality centre half is a must...someone mentioned Kjaer and he would be excellent...Mbiwa or Bocaly from Montpelier would be fantastic as well...domestically i think Curtis Davies would be our best option. Olsson of Blackburn would be a real quality addition also...he would push Shaw and can play left midfield. Finally i think a winger would be a welcome addition and we need look no further than Blackpool...as either Ince or Phillips would be great additions -
I definitely think Boruc is a great shout...would feel far more confident about another left back and centre back cover as well Zambrotta, Grosso or Del Horno would be worth a year deal and even Gabbidon might be worth a punt. Can you imagine Seabourne playing in the Prem?? crikey that would be a disaster

The 'getting a bit desparate' Centre Back thread.
MerceSaint28 replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
Last season a proper prem team was linked with him Bolton (yeh yeh relegated) BUT the starting offers stood at aroung 8-10m if Saints managed too but Rhys for £6m when hes our captain on a new 4 year deal I'd actually bomb saint marys (live in pompy) actually can think of a worse team for him to go too but and i use BUT stongly £12-14m and I'll even come watch him in the gay southern end of your stadium!!! ha ha hilarious....let me get this right...the above poster...is a Boro fan who now lives in Portsmouth...amazing Well i suppose even Portsmuff looks like the French Riviera in comparison to Middlesboro...the grottiest place to live in the UK -
The 'getting a bit desparate' Centre Back thread.
MerceSaint28 replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
I don't see how we can sign anything other than 2 centre halves... Fonte is well off the boil and was badly exposed at times in the Championship let alone the Prem. Hoiveld is solid but both lack any pace. If we sign Yoshida im fine with that,as long as we have another centre halve lined up as well. Ryhs Williams at Boro seems massivley overpriced at £6mill and would smack of desperation and poor scouting to me. The reality is that position should of been sorted 2 months ago as a matter of urgency. You should always build from the back. When you think the likes of Skyrtel signed for £6mill you can see that £6mill for Williams is crazy. Biyik would of been amazing...certainly Mustachio as well but paying silly money for average domestic players doesn't fly with me. I have to question the scouting network is Williams at £6 mill is all we can muster -
Very disappointed if this one doesn't come off...reports seem to be changing by the hour... This would of been the biggest signing we have had since Keegan...gutted As a Saints fan this would of be the one signing to really excite the fans...this will be very painful

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition
MerceSaint28 replied to Jimmy_D's topic in The Saints
Ramirez to Saints....?? ha ha i wish I would be doing a Agustin Delgado and dancing in the streets if that came off... We can't even negotiate or seal a deal with Blackpool, let alone Bologna... Cortese is tighter than a duck's arse on transfers...hence why 2 of our 4 transfers were compensation and the other was those giants Gillingham for a 20 year old keeper, no one had heard of. We probably got him for a bag of balls and some training cones. Yes we got Rodrigues for decent money...but come on, it is the very least we need to be spending...we are in the biggest league in world football! My worry...where is this scouting network ???? you can't tell me we can't find a couple of centre halves and a right winger in another European league than some of the over paid dross on this island... I'm starting to get pretty ratty about the situation now...Saints want to charge us Premier league prices...then give us Premier League standard players -
I was definitely excited...up to about 3 weeks ago...now im damn right worried. If anything happens to Fonte or Hoiveld...we are left with Seabourne...an average League 1 defender at best and a guy who has not played in a year...madness We have had 4 months to get defenders in, so it is not acceptable frankly... Goalkeeper position we have not signed anyone to push Davis...a 20 year old kid from Gillingham doesn't cut it for me. Left back is a worry and we only have a 17 year old to cover...and we are lacking any pace and goal threat on the wings..centre mid is still a doubt for me as well... Cork, Schneiderlin and Hammmond barely scored a goal between them last season... Up front is the one of the few areas i feel confident about, especially when Lee is fit. Essentially i feel we are horribly under-prepared with 5 days to go until the season starts... Very worried...talk of Europe was farcical...where is this scouting network??? no continental players have been signed Sort it out Cortese!!!
-
The fact remains we signed him without having negotiated with Palace...yes we signed for £2.5 mill but we all know had he been a contracted player...he is worth more like £5mill. We had Palace over a barrell as tribunal's normally never give market value... Simple fact is Cortese struggles to get deals done...combination of penny pinching and a massive ego me thinks
-
Sorry Clarke...im proud of our achievements to date but i saw the weaknesses in the side last year and i don't think with 9 days to go we are in great shape considering the fact we are entering the most competitive league in the world. We lacked pace last year and still haven't addressed it...end of...whatever the reasons, deals aren't getting done. I don't think buying British is refreshing in the slightest...ask a Liverpool fan...£20 mill for Henderson...£25 mill for Downing and now £15mill for Allen?? what is smart about that?? Swansea signed Michael Vorm for £2mill and have got the leading midfield scorer in La Liga for £2mill...now that is smart. I am happy we have a great academy but i think we should be supplementing this with quality European players. To me £8mill for Jarvis and £7mill for Butland is madness...you can't tell me we can't go to La Liga, Serie A or the Bundesliga and not get better value...this is where our scouting network should be kicking in... What worries me is the fact that Clyne and Davies were negotiated only because they were free...keeper was from Gillingham and came for peanuts...probably a bag of balls and some cones...only Rodrigues came through a fee negotiated. I put the blame on Cortese not NA here...it is scary that we are 4/5 players short with a week to go
-
I understand that some people are saying that we don't need to worry...we will get the players in etc...but i think it is quite dissapointing that we haven't addressed key areas within the team and strengthened further by now with 9 days to go until the start of the season. There is no time to assimilate with the new team members, surroundings etc...just smacks of poor planning. We got promoted 4 months ago and whilst i know it's not like football manager i refuse to believe it is impossible to get the right players through the door... A number of issues upset me at the moment 1/ Failure to address centre back. We need 2 centre halves not 1. Fonte and Hooiveld looked shaky in the Championship towards the end of the season, let alone against some of the best players in the world. What happens if one of them goes down? Seaspunk? he was not even particularly good at League 1 level, missed the whole of the championship and now is number 3 choice in the Prem...please...he was ripped a new one by CMS 2/ Lack of pace - Saints are woefully lacking pace all over the park, with the exception of Clyne. I felt we needed 2 quality wingers , especially as we can't play 4-4-2 in most of our matches. Left back is also needed as competition for Fox as Shaw is only just 17 and can't be asked to play a major role at that age. 3/ Continually buying British - Whilst i am happy with the signings of Rodrigues and Clyne...less so Davies who strikes me as a bit of a water carrier...it seems we are not even bothering to pick up quality continental players at more competitive prices. This baffles me...why pay the English players tax for frankly sub standard players? Also Clyne, Rodrigues and Davies...you don't need a scout to know these players as they are all well known...where is this scouting network?? I am confident in NA but rather than being excited at the start of the season, i am approaching it with pessimism as there are far too many holes in our squad...centre back, wings, lack of goals from central midfield, lack of creation from anyone apart from Lallana... It might take a few thorough beatings from City, Arsenal and United to wake Cortese up...because as it stands this squad is nowhere near ready and anyone who think we are only 2 signings away is deluded
-
I think we have made some good signings thus far...particularly Clyne and Rodriguez...yet to be convinced by Davis who strikes me as a bit of a water carrier. I am worried about the distinct lack of pace in the team and this is where i see a main problem. I still think we need 2 flyers, 2 centre backs as central defence was a definite problem area and probably another keeper. So we are 4-5 players away in my opinion Why this football club can't recruit pace is byond me...the last genuinely quick player we had with the excpetion of Walcott and Dyer was Camara and what a player he was... just wish we would address this. Also i would like to see us get some foreign players rather than inflated English players... Cortese gets value but there is definitely still a question mark on whether we can get deals done...only Rodriguez required haggling...the Don's rep as being tough to deal with, scuppers a lot of deals in my opinion

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition
MerceSaint28 replied to Jimmy_D's topic in The Saints
Okay im not one to panic with a month left to the window closing but i am growing concerned that our rivals are strengthing with quality and we can't seem to get deals done. Swansea seem to have ideally agreed a deal for Michu...a player with the most assists in La Liga for £1.75 mill...a bargain...i have to admit that sounds significantly better than Davies on a free from Rangers. We have enough grunt in our central midfield but very little creation or goal threat and i can't beleive that Davis is going to be that man. He was poor at Fulham and played in a mickey mouse league up north...#dissapointed Now on to the lack of pace...i thought we needed at least 2 wingers, as Puncheon is not what we want and De Ridder couldn't cut it in the Prem...a month to go and nothing... Seriously we need to stop making excuses for not getting deals done and get players in ASAP... Reading have signed 7 already and they won the league... 2 keepers, 2 centre halves, 1 right back, 2 wingers needed...not gonna happen is it -
Im sorry but the kit is rank...looks like a filthy training shirt... Someone is completely devoid of any type of creativity or style in either the Umbro or saints design team. What a shame, we are a global brand now and we have created this mess of a kit...it really has annoyed me. First time in years i was actually going to buy a shirt...i will not be buying that... Very dissapointed
