Puncheon to Palace - Official (Season Loan)
MerceSaint28 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
i thought it was strange that he wasn't on the bench...i like JP, good player I know he is from Croydon so it's his local side and Holloway likes him but thought he is a good option... We need some pace to replace him with...we certainly need to replace him as he is an important player...imagine someone must be lined up -
If he was about to join Spuds...why have the odds not changed?? Spurs have come in but not enough that he is gonna sign http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/pablo-daniel-osvaldo/club-after-summer-transfer-window

Reality is...Shaw is barely 18...an established left back will definitely play 15-20 games even if Shaw is on top of his game it's a squad game and if the money is right...player will move...Fox is a weak link and needs to be upgraded...end of
-
We can only hope this is true...sell Fox and buy a proper left back...Cissoko from Valencia please
-
I would of course be delighted if we signed Osvaldo...conversely i would be equally happy if we used the cahs to sign Fingerbotty from Heerenveen, Scott Sinclair or Ince and another centre back
-
He is better than Norwich's second choice Olsson ?? i think not Fox is just not a partuclarly good player...he could be easily upgraded at marginal expense...hence why i don't understand why we don't ditto Hoiveld, Fonte and Guly
-
Yeah we definitely need another centre back...would love another left back...Cissoko from Valencia interesting Sunderland now...he would be class How many players have they signed??
-
Brilliant Adrian...let's just be glad we have 11 players out there shall we?? isn't it lovely to be in the Prem...little old Saints...wow more Dell mentality Personally i don't think any of your points are viable...Shaw is barely 18 and cannot be relied upon for a full season, so i don't think it's too much to ask for an able deputy...particualry when the Prem gives the club about £80 million and the club want me to pay £42 a ticket...sorry doesn't wash Sport is entertainment...like the theatre...i don't pay top whack to watch rubbish actors...accordingly i don't pay £42 a ticket to watch Danny Fox play left back in the best league in the world for my club... Expect better...that's how this club will progress
-
I am really shocked that the club hasn't got more players in this summer...we all know that it is a squad game and you need options... Shaw is only 18 and is already injured...his body is fragile and he was always going to play 25-30 games tops...Fox has shown he is not an adequate replacement at this level and should of been sold...we could of easily got a left back who would fight for a place in the first team...Olsson from Norwich is a prime example, who will fight with Garrido...again squad game. Now Clyne has missed most of pre-season and we are using a 18 year old rookie in Chambers...wow massive call, this could backfire big time...Fox and Chambers to start at full back if he doesn't decide to use Cork at right back instead...who would be out of position... We then have Yoshida flying to Japan with Gaston...so will probably be left of a back four of Chambers Lovren Hoiveld Fox Wow that is scary...and not in a good way...and this is the first game of the season for christ sake!! We need another centre back big time...Hoiveld and Fonte are a liability...full back cover and a striker... Something tells me it's not gonna happen...this should of been sorted a month ago...SORT IT OUT CORTESE
-
I would be very happy with Scott Sinclair and this Fingerbotty guy...probably get the both of them for about £11million and solve 2 areas in need of strengthening Scott Sinclair is a cracking player who could be invigorated at Saints...his baby bro is here and i think would be a lovely fit

Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?
MerceSaint28 replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
Spot on Rebel...very good post I disagree over Lovren and Wanyama, as despite the fact we probably over paid for Wanyama...both are very talented players and good additions. Other than that i agree...Fonte, Hoiveld, Guly and Fox should of been moved on and replaced with better, younger players. The scouting network has disappointed me the most...we have not unearthed any talented young players...what are they doing?? Forren and Mayuka have both been massive flops Ramirez, Wanyama and Lovren...were all well known and didn't need a scout as everyone knows about them anyway. I'm gutted we have not seen any gems from south america or la liga come across...pretty poor...where are Mo Po's contacts?? As it stands...you can only give us a C maximum for transfer dealings...scouting needs to be upgraded and Mo Po needs to start acting like Laudrup quickly as we are not decisive and just dither in the market -
Who is to blame for the Summer of inactivity?
MerceSaint28 replied to Unbelievable Jeff's topic in The Saints
I have to say i'm pretty dissapointed in the lack of activity in this window and pretty worries about the start of the season. Don't get me wrong, the signings of Lovren and Wanyama were very good...but let's face it, it has only really solved one major problem...the defence... Towards the end of the season we were struggling to unlock defences...and the serious lack of goals at the tail end of the season proves this. I really thought we would have sorted this problem early...Norwich signed Van Wolfswinkel in April so i don't buy this guff that it's not possible to do it. Also what happens if Lambert or Rodriguez get's injured...what Mayuka a guy who has never scored for the club...really?? and before anyone starts about Sharp, Lee etc they are not needed and will be sold before the window closes. Further evidence if needed is the latest set of friendlies...Schalke, Besiktas and Celta Vigo...in 6 halves of football...Saints didn't score in 5 of them...worrying stat. Some of you can blindly say that we have had a great window thus far...but we are at least 2 players short...i would argue 3 of having a good window. We need a striker badly and it's poor that it has not been sorted with a week and a half to go...we also need another attacking midfielder/winger...and i would argue another centre back, but i will have to give up on that particular hope as we are madly going in with two 30 year old sub standard defenders. Quite how Fox, Guly, Hoiveld and Fonte are still in our squad bemuses me...i'm also struggling to understand what our scouts are doing?? Lovren and Wanyama were well know players...Mayuka, Forren were poor scouting acquisitions and we don't seem to unearth any hidden gems. Surely rather than paying silly money, this is what we need to be doing?? again poor If Saints want to kick on and be a mainstay in the top 10, they need to upgrade in the right areas...leaving it late doesn't work as we have seen...i just think we may blown a great opportunity this season -
Here we go! First Team line up against West Brom thread
MerceSaint28 replied to Horton Heath Saint's topic in The Saints
Wow pretty depressing that a lot of you have Hoiveld in the starting line up...he is a sub standard centre half...ditto Fonte Failure to upgrade this position alongside Lovren will cost us a top 8 finish...Maya should only be a squad player -
Crazy to talk about holding on until Jan or next summer window...very short term and small thinking view The time to do it is now...football is a crazy game and 4/5 wins on the spin can get you the sack...we can not afford to have Hoiveld and Fonte (both near enough 30) to be near anywhere near the first team... Similarly they need to strike on a forward very soon...i'm worried enough about left back...if anything happened to Shaw, Fox is not good enough...and for anyone who thinks we won't get another left back willing to play second fiddle...what about Olsson who just joined Norwich...certainly better than Fox and currently behind Garrido in the pecking order... My worry is now late signings take time to settle in...really need them in before the last friendly at SMS at the very latest
-
well i think it is more about first team football...he won't be moving to a top 4 team and he seemed to consider Swansea so i'm sure he would consider a very good mid table side. Even for £10mill that is decent...very good player who would add a new dimension and could play the lone striker role
-
Saints should definitely sign Gomis from Lyon...his contract is up in a year...only 27 and a regular in the French National team...quick and strong and a good finisher...and for £8mill bargain Get it done Saints...
-
Sorry but i really feel a lot of fans on here still have the old Dell/ Lowe mentality...prudence/ be happy with what we have got etc I know part of the rhetoric with Saints is to incorporate the youth players and that's great...Shaw and Ward-Prowse...but i would argue that whilst it would be nice to use Isgrove, Stephens etc...it is a massive risk playing them in Prem matches and i feel a lot of them could do with loaning out to get experience. On to the next point...quality of quantity...agreed...and i think we all like Lovren and Wanyama...but let's face it, we were not world beaters last year and looked poor toward the end of season. Norwich and Swansea are another year established than us and yet both clubs have taken massive strides with their additions this season... I'm not saying we need as many signings as them...but come on...we have been safe since April and have had more than enough time to get business done. Norwich signed a top drawer forward in Van Wolfswinkel 4 months ago... I am staggered that we can consider using Fox/ Hoiveld/ Fonte/ Guly around the first team...and have not upgraded in relevant positions Goalkeeper - Probably only position we don't need anything doing Defence - no cover at RB...only a rookie in Chambers which is worrying...sub standard LB Fox deputy for Shaw...Yoshida should be a squad player at best....Fonte and Hoiveld are both not good enough Midfield - Very strong in def mid with Cork/Morgan/Wanyama...would argue Lallana is not a wide man and should be played through the middle...then past Ramirez and Puncheon...we only have Rodriguez who is a striker played out wide...definitely missing another winger with pace and tricks Striker - One striker short here...crying out for a pacy front man as Lambert can sometimes make us one dimensional...top names have been mentioned but would be shocked if we pulled off Osvaldo or Damiao...this is probably the most critical signing for the club now
-
Yeah but don't be naive Saint Charlie...all the best team improve year on year and even though our youth system is very good...i would argue that they can't be relied upon to substitute for signings. We still need a top drawer striker and winger...we should also be looking at full back cover and another centre back... I think if we don't make any more signings before the start of the season...we will be found wanting
-
what are our scouts doing??? ;-) http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/328630/Manchester-United-and-Arsenal-beaten-to-wonderkid-signing-Bernard-Malanda-Adje-by-Fulham?
-
Glasgow i definitely feel we are marginally bigger than Fulham...they don't have a fan base...i had a season ticket there about 5 years ago as it was only 300 quid but the place is soul less... They struggle to fill their small ground in London...hence why a lot of their games go on group on etc...recent history has shown that they have been better than us performance wise... however historically we have always been bigger, we have a far bigger fan base, bigger stadium...they just have the pull of London in their favour
-
I love that we are being linked to big name players...Osvaldo and Damiao but how realistic are they?? We need a striker, that much is clear...i think most would agree that a large, quick, mobile striker is the way to go...someone who can play the lone striker well. Personally i think Bony would of been the ideal signing but obviously he is gone...ditto Altidore... I just don't know whether a guy like Osvaldo...a great player no doubt...would fit...into the culture of the club and country. Also and more importantly...wages and fees would be astronomical...you can't tell me we can't pick up another player with all the qualities we want who is younger and more attainable. I just hope the transfer committee are earning their money...because our transfers have been pretty average over the last 18 months (with the exception of well known players Clyne/Rodriguez)... Let's hope we can pull some rabbits out of hats and soon
-
No it's just progress adrian...some of the kids may be decent but the lions share won't make it, so can't be relied upon... Swansea finished way above Saints...won a trophy and still look to get a decent number of additions in...ditto Norwich There is some real dross in our squad that needs to be upgraded...Fonte, Fox, Hoiveld, Guly to name 4...are sub standard first team members and they need to be upgraded It is not about spending crazy amounts on transfers and wages...but using our scouting network effectively and digging up some gems...i love the signings of Lovren and Wanyama but you hardly needed a scoting network to unearth those two...just feel we are leaving it late AGAIN
-
Pretty underwhelmed at Bergesio and Halfredsson...seems like we have dropped about 3 levels of player here Let's hope it not true
-
Wow he look dreadful...29 years old and never heard of him...no thanks I think we need to ramp up our transfers a bit...we need 4/5 more players and we are not moving fast enough. Norwich and Swansea are showing how it is done. I am dissapointed we have not hit up the Spanish League or got any Argentinian players...we are weak at cover at full back, still at centre back and need a winger and top drawer striker... Lots of work to be done
-
The Saints Squad as it now stands... where are the gaps?
MerceSaint28 replied to SaintJackoInHurworth's topic in The Saints
I think we definitely need cover at full back...i'm still not comfortable with Fox at left back cover, definitely would of preferred someone like Olsson. Centre back is another weak area, as Hoiveld and Fonte are substandard and Yoshida should only be a squad player. Then we need a pacy winger...Chadli springs to mind and a striker to finish things off I think we need at least 4 more signings
