  1. Sorry guys, but there is some valid points in the thread. Cortese and Liebherr have not bought the club to be an also ran, i think the years of mediocrity has filtered into the fans thinking and a lot of you are just happy with what we have got. To those who say we don't need signings are crazy. Firstly we are weaker than last season, no right back at the club, therefore at least 2 needed or one and another covering right back. We have lsot Papa and Antonio, so both need to be covered and we are weak in the middle of the park. The current team would not run away with the league and needs at least 6 new players, so hence the urgency from the fans. Top clubs always refresh their squads with better players each year, its called progression! we are in a unique postion where there are a lot of teams in financial trouble and we are financially strong, even stronger than teams in the championship. This is a buyers market and we would be foolish not to cherry pick the best players. I trust Pards and i am sure the work is being done, however i also hope we get our work done early so we can have a pre-season for once. There are a lot of holes to fill so lets not kid ourselves, we are still lacking in the middle of the park and are crying out for an enfrocer. Lots of work to be done, lets hope it starts soon....
  2. Oakley would be a poor signing. I was never a massive fan when he was here, let alone years on. We need a tough defensive midfielder, Boateng on a free?? Lets move away from the old guard, there is a world of players out there. I think everybody's mind set needs to change, forget the same old band of players, we should be using our scouts to target talent from far and wide. I think we can expect signings this week, there is no doubt Pards will want the signings in as early as possible
  3. It appears Owen Garvan is linked, however take that with a pinch of salt as it is from Football rumours site
  4. I see Norwich fans are getting quite excited that are going to be signing Simeon Jackson. Realistically as they are now a division ahead of us, they would have to be favorites even if we can offer more in wages. Slightly frustrated by the lack of rumours regarding signings. I was hoping we would get our business done early this summer as oppsed to the usual late rush. We have a lot of holes to fill, so lets hope Pards is working hard behind the scenes. The only player being mentioned is Lines, who is not the most exciting player in the world. We shall see.....
  5. Sounds like the Gills are doing their best to get a best price for Simeon Jackson by saying they are in no pressure to sell. Personally i think he is exactly what we need. If we sign 2 strikers, him and another like for like for Lambert, we would have 4 excellent options up front. I think we lack a bit of pace and Jackson would give us this and genuine goal threat. Connelly is injury prone, old and maybe too similar to Barnard so i would prefer to sign Jackson than keep him. Im sure a bid of around £500,000 would be enough for Jackson and whats more it would be an excellent addition, thoughts??
  6. Come on guys, has no one seriously got anything ??? there has got to be one rumour??? we are only 2 weeks from pre-season
  7. Yeah i agree Harper would be a massive coup, not sure if he would drop. Also would be delighted with Austin, although half the league has been linked and Adamoah looks a shrewd buy. Not loving Parkin however
  8. Yep all gone very quiet on the rumour mill. Even Swanie has nothing If were going to sign 6 players now realistically, who would you go for?? Here are some of my suggestions Centre back - De Merit/ Dawson (Rochdale) Right back - ??????? Centre Mid - Mullins/ Danns Right Mid - Antonio/ Adu Large Striker -Adeobola/ Akinfenwa Speedy Striker - McClean/ Jackson
  9. Guys quick question. I live up in London and can't down south for a while to try the shirt on, so can you tell me whether the new shirt comes up as a regular fit, small etc. Normally i am a large, but the old shirt was really tight and i would of been an XL. Just not sure whether to gamble on a size, also im liking the long sleeve look, as it reminds me of the lovely Peru kit. Your thoughts welcome chaps
  10. Chez - they didn't release him, his contract is up and he is walking to get a better club. Ironically it appears as though we can get a lot of our business done on the cheap through free's as there are a lot of good players around. An argument i would like to pose to you guys revolves around Connolly. Obviously we need a back up for Ricky, but would you rather give Connolly another year or get in a speedy striker like Simeon Jackson?? I would rather sign Jackson as i think his speed to go with Ricky would work well, plus Connolly has big problems with injuries. Interested to know your thoughts??
  11. The chap from Orient, centre half Mkwandire is leaving on a free. Very good centre half, young around 24/25, excellent free. Apparantly Swansea are sniffing around
  12. Sorry how can you compare the two team's defences as if they have significance on the players abilities. Here is how it breaks down, Harding is a solid defensive full back who offers little going forward. When Saints play at home, they struggle to break teams down as Harding and the other full back can't push forward. This lad Dickson is a very attacking full back, who carved us open a few times and caught the eye. The consensus is that he is going to help the team become a more attacking threat by overlapping the midfielders and getting forward. Not rocket science and definitely needed. As mentioned before, anyone who can add to the quality of the team is welcome in my eyes. As for those who are saying playing Harding at right back, terible idea. Okay as a stop gap, but we need balance not square pegs in round holes. We probably need 2 right backs brought in, 2 centre midfielders and at least one large striker to deputise for Ricky
  13. Seriously guys, if this guy is better than what we have, we should sign him end of. Yes Harding improved over the season, but look its a 46 game season plus at least 10 cup, so there is plenty of opportunities for everybody. I really like Mills, but i get the impression he is viewed more of a left mid. We need to recruit the best players we can, so this is a good thing. The days of keeping mediocrity are over, we can't afford to have favourites.
  14. I think we would all love Adu, but im not convinced he would come to a third tier team. Realistically he is not Prem standard, as he has done nothing in the past few years, so i guess you never know. Certainly one to get the football manager lovers happy, he is my current Saints team in2012 and i just came 3rd in the prem, he know wants to leave to go to a bigger club, cheeky so and so.
  15. Football rumours website latest Saints links 26 May 2010 13:16:44 Southampton In Simon Francis – Southend United Brian Stock – Doncaster Rovers Chris Lines – Bristol Rovers Elliot Ward – Coventry City Inigo Calderon – Brighton Ryan Dickson – Brentford Simeon Jackson – Gillingham Papa Waigo N'Diaye – Fiorentina Michail Antonio – Reading Lee Cook – QPR
  16. Surely Reading can't keep giving Antonio one year deals. I think it will be a permanent if we get him. I get the feeling they only initiated the one year deal was to get more money from us and stop it going to a tribunal. Sigining wise i would like Tamika Mkawarie from Orient (centre half) Austin or Jackson (quick striker) Adebola (back up for Ricky) Calderon Shaleum Logan one of Danns/ Mullins Antonio
  17. From Football rumours website 24 May 2010 13:09:55 Southampton In Stock – Doncaster Lines – Bristol Rovers Dickson – Brentford Francis – Southend Calderon – Brighton Ward – Coventry Jackson – Gillingham Rooney – Macclesfield Danns – Crystal Palace
  18. Mkawandra (Oreint) or Dawson (Rochdales) Calderon Mullins/ Danns/ Stock - one of Antonio Waigo/ Austin/ Simeon Jackson - one of Patrick Agymang - tall striker
  19. Forget that, Lowe's slice of genius is to give young Pulis a 2 year deal on roughly £2,500 a week. So by my calculations that works out as £960,000 over 2 years on wages for 0 appearances. I think the fact that the imps viewed him as their worst player while on loan speaks volumes. The only question is, how has he made it is a professional??? time to learn a new trade Anthony......... and don't even think of being a coach as you have zero talent on a football field
  20. I think Waigo is a good option but dependent on wages/fee etc Personally i think we need another centre half as it is a long season and Perry is retiring. Definitely a right back, a holding midfielder is a must as we really lacked here and then a tall physical forward. My signings would look something like this (one of) Tamika Mkawwandra - 250k Trotman - free Beevers - 400k Right Back - Shaeleum Logan - 250k Centre Mid - Mullins - 400k Trotter - 400k Right Mid - Adamoah - 200k Antonio - 250k Striker - Vokes - 500k
  21. Hey guys, i desperately need 2 tickets if anyone has any going. Long and short of it, i was due to be going on a stag do, however the lure of the final and work commitments has proved too much (im supposed to be off skiing now). Anyway having sat through Wycombe away a month ago, i think i deserve a free ticket but if anyone has 2, please contact me at mercercharlie@hotmail.com and i am willing to pay a decent sum. Cheers
  22. I really feel the middle of the park has been the problem all season. They are marshmellow soft, especially away from home. Schneiderlin though looks pretty, never gets his foot in and we are often out muscled in the middle of the park. This division is 46 games long, sometimes you have to win ugly, we can't do this. The player i called for months ago was Abdou of Millwall. There is a guy who breaks up play, is quick, strong and solidifies the midfield. Wotton's legs are gone and he is out of contract in the summer. Centre mid needs to be addressed. Hammond is neither attacking nor defensive, we need an energetic all action midfielder. Danns would of been great, but i think he will be moving on to QPR along with toung Clyne from Palace. However teams are hitting the wall all over the place, we need to cherry pick early in the summer for once rather than leaving it the usual week before the season starts. We need to be out of the traps like an olympic sprinter next season for Pardew's sake. The centre midfiled remains the problem though and i will say contreverisally or not, if someone offered £1.5 mill for Morgan, i know what i would do
  23. I beleive you lot have missed out Wotton/ Pulis and Molyneux to the list. Basically they should all be released with the exception of Thomas provided he agrees to lower terms. I would look to offer him a year deal. Pulis/Molyneux/ Wotton/ Perry/ Lancashire should head for the scrap heap. Otsembor is worth a year deal, Antonio should be given a 3 year deal as he is young and could be polished. Waigo should be purchased for the agreed 500k at the start of his loan
  24. No one seems to have mentioned, but how long is our contract with Umbro?? It is so nice to have a proper sponsor rather than the awful S, which looked like a market job. I wouldn't be surpised if we started getting a continental like Kappa soon
