  1. I reckon they will do everything in their power to keep this game on. No-one will want it rearranged and I suspect the teams will both be prepared to take a bit of risk to see it through. Walsall will probably rate their chances better on a sodden pitch whilst Saints will just want to get this game out of the way. Ultimately though it will down to the ref, who hopefully will let the game go ahead. A lot of Walsall fans will be on their way within the next couple of hours.
  2. 3-2 MK Dons for me. This was really helped by the positive support from the fans at 2-0 down, which has been a new feature this season. In the past I feel the SMS crowd have tended to get on the players backs quite quickly if things aren't going well. This season has been completely different and it seems to have a great effect on the players. Lets hope this continues into next season.
  3. We are going up! We are going up! :D:D:D:D:D:D
  4. By coincidence, I have just finished On The Beach, I found it an excellent and thoughtful read. I just started reading Shades of Grey last night, too soon to have an opinion. Completely different genre again, but I enjoyed The Snowman by Jo Nesbo recently.
  5. I remember this clearly. We had been given a section of terracing in the corner which was split in two by a fence. I was in one half which was pretty full and the adjoing section was empty until about 10 minutes before kick-off. We them heard a huge roar and Saints fans came pouring onto the terrace and the pre-match party began. Two early goals and an easy win made for a great atmosphere in our end. Was anybody here in that late group, I assume it was a train held back?
  6. If I remember the replay correctly, we won 1-0 courtesy of a Danny Wallace run from the half way line. The section next to us was full of East London lunatics scowling through the fence all game, and that was their family section.
  7. probably a stupid question, but whats with the nuns?
  8. Just woke up. Hungover, knackered and no voice. What a great day out in the big smoke.
  9. 8:40 from Hedge End in 2hrs. Starting to get excited. I reckon a couple of tinnies on the train then Hole in the Wall then Liverpool st Station then Birbeck Tavern then Saints win 3-0 then on the lash in London Town then late train home. Happy days but it could get messy.
  10. .... do you think we will get? The ground capacity is 12,763 Average Attendance this season is about 5,000 Their highest in the league was below 7,000 There seems to be a bit of a delay in announcing details, maybe they are trying to work out a way to give us more than normal? 6,000 would be nice
  11. I agree, a fantastic but largely forgotten game, definately one of the best I have seen. 4-1 v Liverpool 6-3 v Man U and the first 45 minutes aginst Man U when we won 3-1 (and they changed shirts at half time ) 3-1 v Spurs in FA Cup at White Hart Lane mid 80s could have been 8-1. 4-3 v Norwich in 2006 (I think) was exciting.
  12. I'm not sure goalkeeper is the best position for a Hamster. I would have thought playing just off the centre forward would be best.
  13. It has definately reduced the amount of hassle linesmen get from parents remonstrating offside decisions, but opposing parents on opposite sides of the pitch further feeds the 'tribal competitiveness'. I quite enjoyed mingling with opposition parents as you could often have a good discussion about the match with them. Also the closer proximity would help keep some over zealous comments in check. I have mixed feelings about new segregation. My son 14yr old has recently qualified as a ref and I am more concerned about him doing this than I ever have been about him playing, all because some parents behaviour.
  14. My son was also playing on the adjacent pitch (must have been the same game as your son) and I saw the whole incident. There was a bit of a tussle between two players, right next to the touchline in front of the parents. This bloke ran on and headbutted the lad on the other team (I'm pretty sure the Echo got the teams the wrong way round, it was a BTC lad that was headbutted by a Totton parent). Couldn't believe my eyes. I think the bloke who did it realised immediately what he had done and looked pretty sheepish whilst some of the other parents tried to get at him. That game had an experience ref in charge and he should be commended for his handling of the situation, taking charge and calming things down quite quickly. The victims mother was absolutely furious and would have murdered the bloke if she had got to him, I don't think the lads Dad was around. I also felt bad the idiots son who looked completely shocked and scared by the whole thing. I hope he is deeply ashamed of himself. The atmosphere at some of the tyro games I attend is pretty unpleasant between parents, and now there are almost segregation rules in place, which is crazy.

  17. http://stats.football365.com/dom/ENG/teams/Southampton.html It is interesting to see how many goals that we score in the 2nd half compared to 1st. But we seem to conceed equally across both. (you can find it towards the botton of this link) Also a reminder (if needed) that we were 22nd after 7 games.
  18. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/bournemouth/9360426.stm Burney back on again?
  19. I'll be at the match yelling my head off. I have excellent memories of games against Manure, (mostly at the Dell admittedly, 6-3 and 3-1 stand out) and the last two have been a bit sh!t. But we were on the way down then, and it was men against boys last time. I think we will give them a good game this time, so really looking forward to it. I also think the 5.15 start will pump up the atmosphere. I couldn't give a to$$ about all this plastic fan ******, but some people who post post about them, then choose to stay away and watch on TV, should realise how contradictory they are.
  20. No OP is correct, I was both games. I remember feeling sorry for Granger at the time.
  21. Is it a double decker? if so I'm on top.

    Futurology

An interesting article on the bbc website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-12058575 It got me think what life will be like when Saints celebrate their 175th Anniversary. I reckon everyone will have a mini computer wired into their brains that can access the internet (of future version of it) that they can access through their thoughts. Giving everyone knowledge of everything, (and a load of crap as well). Any other ideas?

When I was younger I avoided stepping on the cracks between paving slabs, I also had a wierd thing going, where I would visualise lines on the ground between fixed objects, like lamposts, post boxes and drain covers, then I would avoid treading on these imaginary lines. It got quite complicated at times. I think I am cured now, but do still occasionally find myself avoiding cracks in the pavement.
  25. Labascate - great word Some people on here are so sevidical
