http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2415391,00.html NA talks about leaving three players up last night, when defnding corners, to counteract Torquay putting big players in our box. I wasn't at the game, is this what happenend? If so I am delighted, it has been v frustrating over the years when we have pulled everyone back to defend corners, giving us no outlets and allowing the opposition to crowd our box.

A bit harsh, it made me smile.

I have a strange feeling that Pucheon will have an impact on our season this year. One way or another.

The number of ST renewals is irrelavent in woking out this probability (I think), it is more a question of the available timeslot. As this was a renewal the available window of opportunity was 1st to 14th July, which includes 2 Sundays during which I believe the Box Office isn't open. So 12 available days, with an opening period of approx 8 hrs = a total renewal window of 96hrs. You have already selected the time you will attend so what is the likelihood that the other individual will arrive within 30 minutes of you (if this is the assumed queue time)? 0.5/96 = 0.52% or approx 1:200 However if you also assume a 50% possibility that this person could have renewed online then it 0.26% or 1:400. You did state that the person was renewing at 'exactly the same time', therefore if you reduce the 30 minutes to 5 minutes then the odds are: 0.833/(96*2)=0.043% or 1:2304 This of course assumes that all 96 hours were equally accessible to all customers and the likelihood is that there were peak times where the possiblity of this co-incidence would be increased. I was bored!

I notice there are no Choccy Boxes in the 1934 clip. Anyone know when they were built?
-
Picked up 2 new STs today from the Box Office, No queue, although a steady flow of people kept all the windows busy.
-
I saw my first game from the choccy box directly behind the goal, stood on a little home made stool. If i remember correctly it was home to Blackpool, last game of the 1975/76 season just before the FA Cup final. Happy Days.

This is the most pointless thread in a pre-season of pointless threads.

You only need ID if you are getting a concession of some type i.e U17 or Over 65. If you are getting a standard Adult ticket you will be OK.

Three of us renewing + two new STs. Nets out to one more.

Prices for myself and my son to renew in our current seats in the Kingsland North / Northam corner have risen from £460 to £705 (55%). I was prepared to pay more, but was expecting somewhere in the region of a 20% increase. I do have the opportunity to move to the Chapel / Kingsland corner, where the viewing perspecive on the game will be similar, but not the atmosphere I suspect. This would cost me £550 which is a 20% increase. I moved from the Chapel about 5 years ago because the atmosphere was deteriorating badly and have really enjoyed my new location. I now have a conundrum: 1. Stay where I am and renew (Man-up and take the 55% hike) - feel shafted 2. Move to the Chapel (Accept the anticipated 20% increase but with Sh!t atmosphere) - feel unenthusiastic 3. Go on a game by game basis (But will inevitably end up missing a few) - feel dissatisfied Whatever happens it all seems a bit unsatisfactory to me. It is a shame because I like a lot of what Cortese does, but the failure to drive season tickets sales to high levels through a more enticing pricing and communication strategy is strange. A full house, generates a sense of excitement and occasion which must ultimately generate more income through ancilliary sales that trying to maximise income through a smaller population. Gripe over - time for me to make a decision..............

It seems reasonable to assume that the ST prices for next year have already been agreed within the club. I cannot see any reason why these prices wouldn't be communicated even if the date of sales is restricted and not until July. It does seem clear that maximising the number of ST's is not the aim, maybe 'trousers' suggestion above is correct. In which case why wouldn't the club say there are (for example) 15,000 ST's available, once they are sold there will be no more made available?

I've read 'A brief History...' about three times over the last 15 years and always find it fascinating. There are parts where my understanding gets a bit fuzzy, as it is counter-intuitive, particularly the Quantum stuff. Schroedingers Cat was a good book for gaining a basic understanding of Quantum Physics (I've not heard of Scroedingers Kittens, I guess it must be a follow up) Dawkings - Unweaving the Rainbow was a good read on evolution, but (like Saintbletch) I found the God Delusion distorted by opinion over fact, despite agreeing with the general sentiments.

Catch-22 - Joseph Heller I'd forgotten that I had read this book. Must be 20 years ago now. Amusing and confusing, I think it was described as 'mentally gymnastic' on the blurb of my book, which is pretty accurate. If I remember correctly my favourite character was Major Major Major Major who climbed out of the window when anyone came to see him. (unless I am getting mixed up) Great book IMO

The pair in question usually sit behind me and the dad is a complete Pr!ck. Always p!$$ed and gobbing off. Not usually causing trouble but just a big mouth. I'm planning to move further round towards the corner next year, so hopefully won't see the idiot again.

I'm on holiday for the first weekend of the season. Can't believe it starts so early.

I'm thinking of reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet next. Have you read it?

I agree about Sades of Grey. But will probably read the sequals when they come out. I read about 2 1/2 of the Thursday Next novels and they got a bit tedious in the end. Based on some of the posts above I think I will give World War Z a read soon, once I've completed some unread books in my collection. I
