Don't forget, here were fair few "quiet" saints fans, like myself, amongst the Carlisle fans that day too...

This probably deserves it's own thread but with the revelation that Mourinho advised the club on MP's appointment could it be possible that Mourinho is being lined for a return to the EPL with Saints and that MP will either stand aside or work alongside him when, and if he comes here? Just a thought...exciting times if true...

Fantastic! Percy for Manager!!

He looked like the bees knees tonite..

MP's reaction?

After the feel good factor of taking a point at Chelsea last week I fully expected to win this game under Adkins so if we don't get off to a flier tonight under MP with a probable loss away to Man Utd that would more than likely draw us back into the relegation zone then this change, and at this time, would be under heavy scrutiny. Only time will tell.
-
Since joining 26 months ago Adkins has taken us up an average of 2 league places per month and there was nothing, in his recent form, that that was going to change so it would have to be a big assumption to suggest that we would've gone down with Adkins. In fact, if this guy doesn't doesn't take all three points tomorrow he could be proving himself to be an instant failure and in danger of breaking the record, of 6 games and 33 days, as the shortest serving PL manager.

This is massive gamble because if we are relegated Cortese will be fairly and squarely blamed on this shamble of a managerial change. Worse still, MP and most of Cortese's signings probably won't stay around around to pick up the pieces in the CCC and we most certainly won't be able to appoint a decent enough manager to bring us back up because no one would touch it with a barge pole. Cortese is risking all the progress we've made over the last 3 years based on his obsession that we'll be playing CL football in the very near future but with our own footballing history and the dominance of the league by the big 4, the fans and pundits alike see this as implausible, hence the wide spread incredulity of this sacking. Likewise, I cannot understand this change, and at this time, but soon we'll all be able to draw the conclusion about whether Cortese is a genius or needs the men in white coats. And clock starts 8.00pm tomorrow...

With NA, after the Chelsea game, I had us down to win this game but now I'm not so certain and the bookies have cut the odds on us being relegated. Is that called taking the club forward? If MP is so great why didn't Real Madrid take him...

Fantastic idea, done

Let's face it, if Benitez had started the season as he has done at Chelsea he would be already out the door so even Abramovich realises that the revolving door needs a break sometimes and thats what makes this situation more ludricuous than Chelsea's own because one, we don't have the luxury of being at the top end of table and two, the Chairman has just sacked NA who had a better points tally, over the last few games, than Benitez has accumulated. That being so, Abramovich might be considered to be "soft" and I don't think that would've been overlooked by MP so at the first opportunity he'll be out the door.
-
I think the Chairman must be praying to the snow gods to get tomorrows' match postponed.
-
The balance of probabilities suggests as with Man Utd, Arsenal and now to some extent at Man City that managerial stability (and an big influx of cash) leads to greater sucess and I don't think any of their managers were born as PL managers. Sure, I think MP should be given his fair time to prove himself but that fair time to prove himself, to me, should either be 6 or 18 months or possibly 12 if at this time next season we're not fighting with the "big" boys.
-
Then who's to say that NA couldn't have managed a top 4 finish next season since he's only been given 6 months as a PL Manager. In 6 seasons as a Manager he's overseen 4 promotions, that speaks volumes, in any division. Since NA was ahead of schedule of returning us the PL he should've been given at least to the end of the season. What's clear is that MP isn't even Cortese's first choice manager, in which case, it seems to me MP will be out the door either in 6 months if we don't survive or 18 months if we don't have a top 4 finish next season, and that would be fair. Remember, MP was the longest serving La Liga manager but in that time has never managed a top 4 finish but you're right "there's always a first time".
-
There's always a "first time"... This decision might've been acceptable in November or at the end of the season, but at this point when Adkins was turning things around and all because the Chairman wants a top 4 finish? Has MP managed a top 4 finish in the La Liga yet?
-
Funny thing is, I think Adkins was fully focussed, completely pragmatic and as ruthlessly ambitious, but not as overtly, than any other top manager and probably would've taken us to the European promised land, with funding, as quick as anyone else if given half a chance. NC is taking a big risk if this guy doesn't doesn't hit the ground running, or is he just another stepping stone...
-
This new guy may "name drop" and claim to be a good friend of Mourinho and may have won the La Liga Manager title of the year for 2011 above him and Pep (may be it was based on looks or the sharpness of the creases on his suit, who knows) but he's clearly not in the same league. Time will tell how he does in the EPL...
-
True, I believe this guy has been set an well nigh impossible task by NC especially if he wants to win the fans over, as he say he does. Adkins and the team were on an upwardly mobile trajectory which I, dare say, would have improved next season with experience so this guy is going to have to be some sort of miracle worker, which on his current record he clearly isn't, to bring the fans (and the team) on his side. Let's see what happens....
-
Quite the opposite, I don't think the guy will do any better than Adkins would have done to the end of the season and some of the reports say that this guy is praising the way that the team is playing. Does he think the team was playing in a vacuum or under the manager before him? This managerial change is so bizarre...
-
Maybe I'm being short-sighted but I just can't see what credentials this guy brings to the table that is above Adkins own. If we win every game until the end of the season then I might start to believe the hype....
-
In fact, I would wager a bet that this managerial change was fixed for after the Chelsea away game because NC thought that we would lose that game which would have then made the change look more palatable when it felt, for most fans, like a victory coming back from 2 - 0 down at half time and on the back of improving results makes this change look ridiculous and ill-timed.
-
I wouldn't be surprised, NA will be a top Premiership Manager one day it's just a shame it won't be with us...
-
Pochettino is a nobody, we'll be relegated for sure now...
