Dan by all accounts is really good pro and a lovely lad. we all genuinely wish him a full recovery and the best possible luck. What lessons can be learned? Questions must asked. 1. The apparent suspects are 100% innocent until proven guilty. We are all naturally going to have our sympathies with Dan, yet maybe without knowing the details of the incident, or the behaviour of those involved (Dan included). 2. What the frig was a Southampton Football Club 'starter', let alone any other player, doing in Junk at 3am plus - what possible good can happen in a dodgy night club a couple hours before dawn?? 3. Does any player or has any player ever improved through the excessive (not saying Dan had been 'excessive') (mis)use of alchohol? If the boozing culture of many footballers, especially the young ones, was modified how could it do any harm? Would it not improve performance, attitude and the product that they provide to us the paying customer - or ultimately the people that put cloths on their backs, food on their table...and even, ironically, wine in their glass!!

Pay only for appearances maybe?

Fine player for Saints...p!ss poor at Blackpool last year, none of the 'old player, desperate we need ex-stars' type clubs/managers ie Forest, skates, Blackpool (tho' they had him last year) picked him up, so it should say something. Two options 1. Strictly pay as you play. 2. He would be great and should sign either for one of those 'new cash' L1 or L2 teams...

Another top performance today, completely blanking Edin Dzeko in a terrific 1-1 draw in LA....still say he looks good and is a credit to Saints!!

Terrific subject...of course I would say Big Ron, but I will surprise a few and say 'no', you have to have wing service for a player like him. Keggy was great and the windmill boy, whereas personally I thought Mark (the original) 'Psycho' Dennis was awesome and the whole left side of our team in it's heyday...didn't need a winger and FB, just Psycho. In today's game Bale is the same - maybe better, however not as much of a cult or character. At the end of the day you'd have t'say MLT....or, dare I say it? Shearer for his brilliance post-SFC.

Good post and I respect your thoughts mate, do not agree with the 'low-brow bullies' part though. I could see that a (very) casual viewer of the site might think that, however if you stay for a few moments longer you get to know the dynamic - some posters 'on-line' persona is an obvious creation and in many cases a lot of fun once you embrace their modus operandi, if you get my drift. This site is full of fantastic posters - the majority, yet there are 100% spoilers on here too, that is what turns people off to it frequently. Oh...and 'The Stain'...the UI has only been going 23 years...funny comment all the same.

It was always the way that if wanted to be 'yourself' - humor, emotive etc wise then you would post on the other excellent site the Ugly Inside and if you wanted more pc or straight FACT type stuff you would post here. There are still some real benefits to this site and a majority of great posters....however a small minority of tools. Those same afore-mentioned spoilers should go to the UI or other similar sites where they'll get a fair (cyber) fight. Most of them ain't got the balls tbf and would rather stalk others on here...one word 'get a life'

I read each and every post to Ron just now (even Dog's 'cake' one ;-) ). He was absolutely made up, it really meant so much to him and it genuinely lifted him. I also really thank you for doing this as it was a pleasure to pass these messages on...I tried to describe who each message was from and from which part of the World. He seemed almost overwhelmed with the support, the one thing he (really wanted to express and) always felt was a true affection and respect for the FANS of Southampton Football Club

Not accusing just asking, from the outside wouldn't you say that was somewhat hypocritical...couldn't be bothered wasting 1 minute, yet spending ages on here writing about and getting very defensive/sensitive over clearly making a bad decision which is scorned by most. Very good response mate! Tonge maybe I like ball-playing CBs ;-). We need a quality GK, Kelv is a loyal good man and a decent 'keeper, yet we should be looking for better than decent IMHO. Onyewu is not good enough for AC Milan, but too good for Belguim and would relish a stag at CCC let alone another chance at the Prem. Gera is a fabulous player that needs to stop bouncing from one poor Prem situation to another and McFadden, he is just exciting and quality 'on his day'. Ambrose should be our # 1 target.
