  1. You're on fire!
  2. Route 1 is one more option than they've got!
  3. High on observational skills.. I like 'SaD' better than my own 'Cult Undermining New Thinking' that probably would probably require existing membership of SaD anyway - 63,587!
  4. Breaking eggs to make omelettes pre-dates David Brent by a century or two I suspect but you describe it how you see fit? It would be infinitely prefererable to retain all the good bits from the past and dump all the bad but, sadly, when you are trying to progress things some of those who are part of it are inevitably going to find it hard to accept. The Echo thing has gone on far too long but I don't lay all the blame at Cortese's feet for that - a good relationship with the press is based on mutual trust and the Echo betrayed that very early in the relationship. Interesting (much as I hate Rupert Murdoch) that the Sun and their 'South Coast Club' era have now been brought onside yet the Echo can't? Players etc...Frannie and Lawrie are banned? Or do they have to buy tickets? Not condoning if they are banned but I wasn't aware that they were actually forbidden to buy tickets? FWIW I think that ex-players and management should be guests of the club but does this extend to the ones 'we' don't like too?
  5. I'm a supporter not a PR guru but the point I was trying to make was that whilst all this means a huge amount to us it's not viewed that way for more than a comparative nanosecond by the rest of the footballing world... We, on the other hand, have experienced the highs and lows generated over the years and taken them to heart...I'm certain that eggs do have to be broken to make an omelette and I'm not always going to like that but I'm also not going to dwell on it to the detriment of future life. I also think that the legends and tradition should take some responsibility for ****ing in the face of the present?
  6. I also took it that way....I also lost count of the number of times he said club...as opposed to company.
  7. Hmmmm - I agree with a lot of what you say about Matt Le Tiss...in a cab in Tunisia with a very limited vocabulary to share (French) the driver and I talked football for an hour (pre Jaidi) and Le Tiss was the only Saints name that he knew. I worshipped Matt as a footballer, have been lucky enough to meet him a few times and his place in my Saints-supporting affections is set in stone...the greatest player I've seen in a a Saints shirt. Before Matt I worshipped Terry Paine, Ron Davies, Martin Chivers, David Peach (he opened a school fete!)....my point being that the hero of the period is a constantly changing and I've seen the club rise and fall in the most extreme ways over 50 years of support. Matt's input on NC means FA to anyone but us but actually I don't care what other fans think...likewise the decision to sack NA was weird to most fans in and out of the SO code but ultimately it only matters to us...the supporters. In a year Nigel will be seen as someone else's manager by all bar us who'll view his time here with gratitude and affection - I'm gutted for him personally but I've seen us sh*t on and be sh at on by managers over the years and I'm hoping the Pochettino appointment will be as succesful as the Adkins one..at which I also felt shock and personal sympathy with Pardew who had taken us to Wembley only weeks before but... I don't subscribe to a 'Cortese can do no wrong' cult but I am capable of making rational judgements on his record so far. My newly-born grandson will, I hope, continue the lineage of Saints support in our family and will know a completely different set of players and cultures...how different is the PL to the Div 1 that I celebrated getting to back when I was at Hamble Primary?! We have had to adapt and you can do that by following conventional wisdom or by innovating and pushing toward new ideas but there's a clue in that statement...one involves following. I believe that by not being shackled by conventional thinking that NC is innovating...taking the best out of the world's best systems surely but also having the bravery to strike out in a new direction, one that will take us to greater heights than conventional ambition would allow. He may fall flat on his face, that is for the future that then becomes history to record but I'm nonplussed at the Luddite attitudes to his methods by some Saints fans on here..and don't tell me that I have no eye for the past - I would hope though that past experience will both teach us yet not encumber us in the way forward. So - to dismiss Cortese as some ex-banker is crass head in the sand stuff, to hang on to Matt's utterances as somehow biblical is equally so - I wish that they could get together for the harmony of the club and live happily ever after but NC is the present and is shaping the future. I'll be accused of being CoC no doubt by those with minds small enough not to recognise opinions generated by logical observation...rather that than a Campaign Undermining New Thinking -I can embrace the old and the new and accept that there will be, as there always have been, bumps on the way. NB CB FRy...this is not aimed at your post...more as the catalyst of numerous others. Nobody, though, is 'better' or worse for having a different viewpoint.
  8. Gloat on the difficult ones though
  9. You really think anyone would want to part with them? FWIW I think You're high on Ricky (only down to his age), about right on Puncheon and low on Morgan. Underlines why we should not be a selling club any more though.
  10. The white handkerchief (my kids called them hankies!!!) waving has no place at St Mary's because: It's nothing to to with English football culture The protest should not be aimed at the new manager who has done nothing wrong It's a bit (lot) girlie I'll be singing support and thanks to Nigel Adkins incorporated in my support for the team as I have done many times over the last couple of years...tonight it'll be a bit more poignant but my team need my support now as much as any time - if you think I should have said 'our' team then great, you'll be joining in.
  11. Respect for the phrase!!
  12. I disagree... Whilst I'm gutted for Nigel and would much prefer not to have to address this at all - Cortese has been astute enough not to throw petrol on the fire in public when the club is facing a difficult weekend lead up to a difficult match. Granted it was his fire but the media and Saints players and fans are had Nigel's dismisal, Pottechino's appointment and (I feel sorry for his news being buried) Foren's to digest, analyse, comment on and report. He had explained the only reason he was going to give in his statement...someone called a good analogy by questioning if this was so different to Clyne replacing Richardson...and any amount of questioning by journalists with papers to sell or fans feeling aggrieved was not going to change that. It's also completely characteristic of his chairmanship to stay out of the limelight - I genuinely believe pragmatic business judgement drove his decision not to attend, not cowardice. I don't feel good at all about the situation, I believe that Nigel would have kept us improving sufficient to ensure survival and feel for him as he's an honest and genuine person who, in my opinion, did not deserve this but to say NC's reason for not attending was cowardice is just plain wrong ....in my opinion.
  13. I really can't be a rsed to trawl through all the predictions, rumours, downright fabrications etc to prove a very self-apparent fact ...I'd give more credence to those that are claiming that they were right all along and crowing smugly if indeed they admitted that the percentage that they got wrong was far higher and that if this was football they'd be well down the league. Even the genuinely well-connected pundits only claim to get a small percentage right...kissing your own a rses when hindsight proves the odd one to be correct is not a bright (or credible) thing to do...
  14. F ucking great NO...which bit of the c unt took us down and went back to them do you not understand?
  15. I believe they're on credit hold at the laundrette...and they haven't taken any cash for weeks
  16. I don't disagree with much of this other than the bit where you say that 'some fans lap it up and don't care' - I'd bet there's not one fan who's not feeling absolutely **** for and about NA. What I find difficult to stomach is the refusal to accept that there are many counterbalancing day to day good things that happen every day and are just accepted as the norm...we are by and large a well-run and responsible club, caring even in the things that are done for and within the community. I'm ashamed that we've done this to a guy who has lived, breathed, inspired and given our club the right to feel good about itself...and that's not even counting the achievements on the field and I'm gutted he has gone...but I'll chant his name all night as a way of thanking him and, if you like, protesting at the decision but I won't do anything that will impact on the team that I support and that NA and NC put together and who will still receive my support after both have gone - it's that simple...I support, I don't go to games to prove anything other than that. Anti anything other than opposition chants have no place at St Mary's!
  17. 100% This Nigel Adkins has put pride, self-belief, integrity and unity back in to our club...I'm deeply sad for him that he hasn't been given the opportunity to continue the process with us. Without doubt his talents will be used to great effect elsewhere. Thank you Nigel Adkins and good luck....it's been a great ride and you have made me proud to have supported the club in the time you were here!
  18. Deeply saddened for an honourable manager who has been nothing less than first class for Saints...it p*sses me off that he's now going to be allowed to work his magic for someone else...and he will. I'll get behind Pochettino but I'm gutted for NA and I'm gutted for the players who have shown loyalty and commitment to him and the club - what message does it send to the players...particularly the younger ones?! Work hard, do well, get sacked!! Cortese has been right before bringing Adkins in...I hope he's as right this time b ut right now I'm sick to the stomach that my club has been capable of this. F*ck, just F*ck!!
  19. As does their run of zero takings......
  20. I laughed...
  21. +1 - legend though he is
  22. Waitress asked if I wanted anything on my burger...I asked for a fiver each way...
