From the horse's mouth Once in the national team only national team interviews/talks are allowed hence my "let's leave that for another time" when asked about questions regarding my own club situation. To make it perfectly clear to everyone that might have some difficulty understanding I am a Southampton player, and proudly have been since 2010,understand that once I step on the pitch with the saints shirt and armband I give my blood, sweat and tears for the club and will always will no matter what you read or think. My professionalism means everything to me,and no one can point me a finger about it. I am fully committed to succeed with my 2 teams @southamptonfc and @selecoesportugal Thank you #wemarchon

I don't think anyone is asking to spend £100 million (Liverpool & Man Utd over the last few years being a pretty good example of spending for spendings sake, not to mention spurs wasted about 80% of the money they got from Bale with only 1 or 2 players they brought in still there) but we can still improve the squad. We've sold 3 quality first team players, and lost 2/3 squad players, we've brought in 3 main players in Hojberg, Boufal and Redmond who don't cover the positions we've lost really. Only Boufal is potentially replacing Mane, ok you can argue Austin replaces Pelle but not really in style. There is a clear Wanyama shaped hole in the squad, we still look short of cover at centre-back, we are lacking quality up front. It's all very well replacing what we've lost, and we haven't even done that, but where is the improvement to the squad? We don't need to spend £100 million to do that, especially when you've already sold £65 million, £20 million above what we have sold could have replaced all the losses and got in two quality players who improve the first team. Not really hard, nor breaking the bank. Whatever way you look at it, the squad is no better than last year and in all probability is worse. And we are still sitting on around £25 million of transfer sales whilst having record amounts of money coming into the club. Not good enough and to me it seems the club are wasting a position and an opportunity they have worked so hard to get to. We had a squad that finished 6th last year, a couple of quality additions to that squad in the right areas and the right players and we'd have a chance to do that again and maybe, just maybe push on that little bit further or compete better in the cups. But instead of spending the summer improving the squad, the club have spent the summer repairing the damage to the squad and it's debatable whether we've even got back to the same level of squad. Spot on. However the transfer window hasn't closed yet and Les won't let us down - would he? Never has, Glasgow, not yet if you check our record since he arrived?

Quality signing - Well done Southampton FC with special mention to Les Reed. My palms hurt from all that clapping but I don't spend my life washing sheets! ;-)

Just back from watching a different match to those who are posting on here...did they even see the match or had they made their minds up what the verdict on our play was last night? Sure we are still adapting but we were way better than Sunderland...we had a magical first ten minutes of how it can work, played well. I haven't looked at statistics but we had far more and better shots, spent most of the game probing in their half...Fraser barely had a save to make and, though I don't think our captain had an inspiring game, we coped with their attempts. Fonte will play better, Bertrand will add stability and Tadic will have a more consistent passing record on future games. We are not the finished article but we are a million miles from the bedsheet laundering fraternity would have us believe. One other thing - am I the only one who thinks Lee Mason should go back to ref school? I thought he was dire!

Very good news...going to be a big part of our new system :-)

One of the attributes that was mooted for Puell when he came was the attractive football played by Nice.....we put together some really neat combinations round the box on Wednesday ...I know, friendly... and played some neat football. I'm not sure why he would change this. I also know that Nice were 4th...but given that PSG, Marseille, Lyon are their equivalent of our 'big 6' it seems that it's effective as well. Let's save the worrying for when there's a reason?

Given that most skates still lick the point on a pencil before writing inarticulately and with 'challenged' spelling and grammar I'm guessing the world of social media is not their forte....!

Nicely phrased as ever...good read, thanks!
