Driving the 250 miles to St Marys, parking at Ocean Village, swift beer, eating the ritual fart-inducing fare on offer at or in the ground & swill it down with a ritual Bovril, chat with the people around my seat about the Wembley game & pretend it's not me that's f*rting...cheer like a ten year old when they take the field (do this whether or not they parade the Paint Pot..the thrill hasn't palled in 50 years). Shout, curse, cheer, putter, sing, clap, curse some more, clap...hope to shout 'fuc'n get in there' several times as we rack up the goals. Shuffle back to Ocean Village...250 miles back for work tomorrow either happier or sadder than I might have been were the result different. Think - '****, this time last year we were in admin' & count my blessings Mostly familiar routine apart from wanting to be part of the first home game since we won our first silverware for a while... Or I could do some decorating - what would you do?! :-)

And there was me thinking that was one of the qualifications for being a fan of theirs!

I think that they're a bit naff but was I participating? Yes - Of course I was...we were 3-0 up & there were no miserable sods around to spoil the fun & plenty of kids who loved it. When you & I are dead Docker-P, they'll be the ones supporting, moaning....generally being Saints supporters & who are we to spoil their future enjoyment? What a day though...not going to let someone else's hangover driven grump spoil it.

Hairs stood up on the back of my neck a few times during the run up & the match not to mention during the celebrations afterwards. 'All Southampton FC' sung by all of the crowd was one that even got to the tear ducts after the third goal - I just stood there thinking how far we've come & how close we came.... Marcus, Nicola, Alan Pardew & the team - I salute you - thank you for bringing so much happiness to an old boy & his son....both 'New' Wembley virgins & only one of us old enough to remember the last time we won a Wembley final.
