I've got huge respect for Lawrie & the happiness his teams provided in that amazing era. I also agree that legends should get a lifelong club membership that allows them to see any game they wish to...not that they couldn't afford to buy them as our club and the game have made most of them wealthier than most supporters. But...& it's a big but...Lawrie decided his career would be be furthered better elsewhere & in some cases you could argue that it was but my point is that he moved on - voluntarily - nobody shoved & that was his decision. In terms of Saints - we have also moved on...we've had a far bumpier ride than Big L in many ways but we are the only club that he does get welcomed to...Sunderland don't exactly hang out flags when he visits! That welcome from the 2011 version is probably proportionate given 30 odd years have passed- I'll be at the Mayflower for the 125th do partly to see him & wallow in the nostalgia of the era he was part of & I'll always revere him for the part he played in it but in this article he sounds like a slightly sad old grandad whose kids don't come & see him any more despite the fact he took them to Disneyland when they were 12.

Matt's a legend to me and loads of us from his era - to NC he is someone who was part of a competitive consortium that almost derailed his own bid. Since then Matt & he have had snipes at each other but that's six of one etc...NC owes Matt no loyalty. Equally Matt is a well-paid pundit - surely he can afford one or other of the hospitality packages?

I'm not sure how the original was posted - as comnment to an Echo article? As Saints fans we have got used to believing that there must be something in every negative that is put forward but this reads to me as a bit of speculative schizen stirring with nothing more to it than a petty agenda. Now the poster (not you Colinjb) has got a reaction he/she will foxtrot oscar until the next time...we shouldn't dignify it with replies (he replied!!)

This - too much emphasis on one 0-0 draw after a sparkling spell of games. Our strength in depth is the envy of the rest of this division and too much should not be read in to a lack-lustre Saturday. There will be more games that we draw or lose that we should have won...we'll also fluke a result or two tio compensate but we have a talented & motivated squad. Wishing it was February 1st & we can just get on with the season.

Stripes for me...love the sash & that it does commemorate our 125th & hopefully will be fondly remembered as the kit we won L1 in our anniversary year but we are a red & white stripes club. Happy for any combination though...particularly if we keep playing like this:D
