Cortese clarifies the current position (Daily Telegraph)

This, compared with the Mail article, is reasoned & substantively sourced. Believe me I have no love for the Torygraph but it has gone out & asked the awkward questions & printed the answers...a far cry from the speculative pseudo-sensationalism of the Mail. I also urge Matt, Franny & Lawrie - all heroes of mine - to heed what Cortese has said about damaging their own reputations. Whether you like him or not (I can't dislike someone whose intentions for the club that I've supported for 51 years are so positive...aside from his role in getting ML involved) there is a lot of sense conveyed in this article. I think the DT article desrves it's own thread.

To my mind he had two opportunities to display his 'touch' both just in front of us in the stand. The first, within a minute or so of coming on, was a waist-high ball coming across his body in a swirling wind from his left to right side. He 'air-kicked' that one. The second one gave me more hope...we cleared high in to the away fans corner and all around us thought it was going out for a goal kick...Forte not only caught up with it but controlled it on the bounce and laid off a decent little ball...at the time (not having heard who had come on on the PA) I'd thought it was Gobern - I have crap eyesight - and remarked that I didn't know he could move like that! When some kindly soul with better eyesight pointed out my error I thought that must be the 'Jonno fast' that Adkins talked about. Give the guy a chance....first appearance, swirling wind, us defending frantically...there can't be too many more hurdles for a young, newly signed winger to overcome!

'that slimy Italian' You've met him? Matt's a great footballer & a comical & knowledgeable pundit. He, in my opinion, ill-advisedly, got involved in a non-bid for the club - I'm absolutely certain with the best of intentions - and this set him against NC. NC won & the club is the better for it -in my opinion. If these quotes are in context & genuine then it doesn't reflect well on a player that I have revered in my supporting life & makes him sound like he has a petty agenda. I'd like to think that wouldn't be the case but it's not in the interests of anybody concerned with Saints (supporters through to chairman) for this bickering (in this case from one side only....if true being my rider) to be aired in public. The Mail doesn't have a great record of truth in it's recent dealings with Saints related stories & I hope it's just their usual trash journalism

Must have had the same gearbox as the 105E Anglia...that happened to me..fortunately in second. Oh for the days of driving down to the scrapyard and paying pence for a replacement - really easy to replace as I remember, just unscrewed a cap over the ball bit?

Great blues guitarist...some good stuff as a legacy. Sad news

You should hear what he says about you...& that fat, too-small-suit-wearing, pudgy talentless slob of an office equipment salesman of a manager that got rejected from Preston!

You go on to my sensible posters list.... This is the way it is...we have strength & flair - in depth.

I've read three pages and really can't be arsed to read any more...particularly comments from those that didn't even see the game. My perspective & ratings I loved being on a terrace again...great atmosphere & credit our end for outsinging the home crowd throughout. Cortese song needs some practise but that & the Markus chants were good to hear,,,as was the support of Chaplow & the gentle lack of hair **** take at the beginning...the rest of the players loved it! Before this week I'd have taken 4 points out of 6...sure we had the chance to make it 6 but this is football, they are the league's highest scorers at home & the wind was always going to make it difficult for both teams. In footballing terms we were superior but you can see why they score so many goals...I think KD was at fault for his positioning for their first goal but let's not forget that it was their first because he'd saved superbly a few minutes earlier. I don't think Seaborne covered himself in glory but was generally the one marking M-Smith who excelled in the conditions and had a point to prove. Otherwise I think we were slightly unlucky with the last penalty decision. I think two of the poster's comments on the pages I did read summed up the ref's game correctly -3 out of the 4 decisions were average at best & the 4th was just wrong...I also agree that he got carried away with the excitement. Ratings Kelvin - 6 - made one costly mistake but will know it an d has the nouse to get over it Harding - 6 - would have been higher but got himself in to a running battle with the ref and needed to be substituted...unprofessional. Fonte - 7 - kept his side pretty quiet & was unlucky at the other end Seaborne - 6 - looked a little lacking in strength & experience against M-Smith Butterfield - 6 -struggled at times to keep with their forwards..nearly scored a peach of a goal. Hammond - 8 - looked like the captain he is..daft free kick at the end but what a goal! Chaplow - 8 - grafted classily throughout..almost wish he'd decked the fat, fake Fergie when they came together on the touchline AOC - 6 - flashes of speed & brilliance but only 17 ffs...definitely didn't handle for penalty Guly - 6 - a little quiet by his standards and a bit blustery blood & guts English football for him to shine..silly booking Barny - 7 - Chased everything, set up the first goal & did everything but score...will have been knackered at the end Ricky - 8 - 90% back to his best...great penalties some superb lay-offs & was always available..no worries as to his form for the rest of the season. Dickson - 7 - Came on to do Harding's job & did it well in the time he was on Richardson - 6 - Came on for Guly assumedly to shore up the lead...didn't really.... Forte - 6 - Didn't really have time to make an impression but one burst of speed & control had the terrace applauding..look forward to seeing more Nige - 6 - Difficult game to influence but I can't see that he did anything wrong...Peterborough can be unplayable...we stood toe to toe and with a bit more luck would have won. Ref - 5 - About equally crap for both teams in fairness. I think we're well set-up for the rest of the season...there's no lack of fight, skill in abundance & depth in the squad. I think that Jaidi/Fonte is the best pairing generally but Seaborne is learning all the time & we're unlikely to get more than another season out of Jaidi. I can understand why NA preferred him against a quick & mobile front line today & he too will grow from his experience - playing alongside Fonte is great for any defender. Yes we miss Lallana - who wouldn't - but we still have him to come back in which increases my optimism for the next 57 points available...for me automatic promotion is still very much on.
-
You really weren't watching then - he caught a ball that was really not his through sheer pace, controlled it & set up a chance in the corner in front of the stand where I stood...he did miss a cross immediately after he came on but it was weirdly windy - particularly at that end of the ground. Give the guy a chance...don't spread B*llox like others who cast judgement without even seeing the game.

Is it the same price?

I the early '60s I can remember Mays being Owen Owen (or was it the other way round?) Didn't it become a C & A for a while?

I too have never found anyone who allows change to be left in your pockets...anything that sets off the metal detector is taboo. I haven't found Southampton worse than any other...to restore your faith in the UK airports try a trip to the US. I have to go on business a few times a year & the rudeness & indolence of their immigration has to be experienced to be believed. Now I quite like the States but the airport experience would work against me taking the family there on holiday.

Or thing?...as in we ain't got nuffin'...sumfin will turn up....etc
