  1. These are realistic Championship prices if we have ambition to drive on up to the Premiership....hurts a bit but the choice and variety of ways to pay are there. This is the real world and this is the cost of Championship football.
  2. Ok so you didn't find it funny...I can accept that but asking us to move on from our ringside seats is a little naive....we could have moved after any of the other 'takeovers' and look what we'd have missed?! More popcorn please miss...this is going to run & run:lol:
  3. An interesting analysis and lays some ghosts to rest regarding debt levels 'incurred' by the last administration. That it comes from a right wing perspective albeit punching pretty softly is also maybe a sign that they are realising that you can't hide in rhetoric for ever.
  4. Don't you try and watch every episode of your favourite comedy?
  5. I note you're from Waterlooville:D I also would like to reiterate that I think it's a slow news day and the quotes are so old they've died!
  6. So find a better record? Agree that the next two seasons are pivotal for the future...I do believe that we have largely bought players who will be able to make the step-up so, if so, the investment will be spread over additional seasons making it look like bargain money!
  7. Superb signing if we can pull it off although the fact that we're hearing about it suggests that it's speculation...Cortese & Co signings tend to be just that by the time we hear about them. He played some nice football with Surman & Lallana back in the dark days...I can remember fantasising that they would make up the England midfield some day...sigh!
  8. I recognise those quotes from some time back...slow news day so heat up the old cr*p to wind up the few.
  9. Fantastic...oh we were good at times! Thank you very much!
  10. 'I've got 3 SP30's on my licence thanks to the big brother nanny state control freak Socialists love of speed cameras (21/08/04 - 05//03/07 - 21/07/08 ),' Er no you k nob - you got 3 x sp30s because you got caught speeding three times.
  11. Yes to this Don't agree that we'd have gone down with Dave Jones though - whilst he hasn't set the world on fire with titles and cups won his teams have always been competitive often under strained financial resources.
  12. I've not met him but I used to enjoy the fact we had a vocal Saints supporter on Capital Radio when I was in the Lunnon area...whether you find him funny is entirely subjective...I've lived a long time so am as old as a lot of his jokes. He compered the 125th anniversary bash at the Mayflower and was probably the only one who could have done it both with his complete heart in it and been the one to assemble the players and Saints personnel from over the years. All jokes that night were anti-Skate because that was his audience...can anyone here put their hand on their heart and say that you've never joined in 'Wash your mouth out son'? If so - shame on you...the Millbrook/Thornhill thing is banter aimed at the relevant audience, no more, no less!

It isn't just words, it's new training facilities, new coaches, more money for the academy, promotion, new contract for lallana. All very real and part of the long term plan. Plus the first part of the original plan that was put in to place has shown to be succesful and involved spending on wages and players above the level a L1 club would expect. On that basis there's no reason to suspect that the same strategy will not be carried out through the Championship and beyond. Of course words were all that they were back then too but credit the forst part of the plan coming to fruition - pleased but not at all surprised to hear that the business plan has a rolling update - it's a model that the progressively thinking companies all would work to. I think we're very lucky in being chosen as the club to do this with - I also think that we were a perfect fit for those plans. Wise choices all round!
  14. Like millions of others then but with the added bonus of leeching millions of pounds from the taxpayers pocket. I'd also question how you'd arrive at either of your conclusions but I suspect your sycophancy would blind you to any rational argument
  15. Very good news - we have quality cover in most positions and he's earnt his place in the squad. Good attitude when not picked as well...there's a great ethos in the club now which will be needed to carry on the journey onwards and upwards. Loving all this!
  16. Happy Birthday Ron - still the best header of the ball I've ever seen...in any shirt! Thanks for the fantastic memories I have of that era...hope to see you at St Mary's soon.
  17. Their loss...glad he's got a chance to have a decent rest
  18. Brum are having a dodgy time financially - they will need to unload some high earners. R5 said they were 17 million short on their break even figure so the firs parachute payment is spent already. Blackpool...I'd care but for big neb's comments...the laugh was on him after all!
  19. Good and thought-provoking thread..I too can remember the '74 relegation and it hurt. It was vaguely written in the stars that Saints would be the first 'victims' of three up, three down and whilst it numbed me/us for a while we still had a team with skill, fight and character and I could still recall our old 2nd Division days so it didn't seem world-shattering in the same way 2005 hurt most - not just because I'd sort of got used to being in the top flight but because of the dreadful feeling of betrayal from the top to the bottom of the club. I'll never forgive Redcrap for his dishonesty, Lowe for his appalling, ego-driven mismanagement or, sadly, most of that team. They all could have done so much more and they stood and let it happen! I agree that the drop to L1 was totally overshadowed by the thought that we might not exist anymore...I won't forget that feeling of wtf do I do if the worst happens...it was and is inconceivable to transfer affections to anyone else. I stood at the final whistle at Burnley trying to remember everything in case I didn't get the chance again..hell of a game to try and gather memories around. Once St Markus and his trusty steed NC rode in there has been, in my mind, an air of rebirth...of being showered clean of the '05 era and a new beginning. I've enjoyed, in that perverse supporter way, the last two seasons as much as any since the early eighties although I'm glad to be out of L1 now. The fact that we aren't doing it via the play-offs reinforces the 're-born' theory. Good thread..did I say that already?
  20. Er yes...I spelt it before for phonetic effect but I have to admit that I didn't know about Mr Neill's bookrags definition then;)
  21. Think phonetic guys...
  22. At the risk of being called a spelling/grammar - whatever - snob...how 'high' is the IQ level on that board? It's ignorant in content, spelling, grammar, knowledge and just general level of any kind of common politeness. I'm so glad we're so refained!
  23. This - thank you. No more thinking time to be wasted...nothing to see - bye:D
