End of Season Review: 14th Place - 41 points
RedAndWhite91 replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
14th, happy with that. Said at the start of the season I'd be happy with 17th, the nightmare start to the season left me thinking we'd finish 20th. I think back to 2009, we were bottom of League One after 12 games. That season I saw us lose at places like Tranmere, Colchester, Swindon, and Gillingham, you realise how far we had fallen. Not even four years later, I'm then watching us beat the English champions, the European champions, and, er, Liverpool as well, and those important victories are made even sweeter when you think back to what was happening just a few seasons before. Everyone wrote us off, predicted we'd finish 20th, predicted Lambert wouldn't get more than 5 goals, but we've proved them wrong, think we've also gained a lot of admirers along the way, so I'd say it has been a successful season, even if we did tail off towards the end. Hopefully next season we'll proper push on, but I'd say there's still a lot of work to do. -
This lad used to have a Pompey season ticket...

"Jones, who has scored eight goals in his last 14 games, is a devout Christian and said it was important for him to feel he had done the right thing morally. The 24-year-old was also grateful for the help he had received in making a rapid recovery from a serious knee injury, which he also put down to his faith."

At Sunderland at the weekend, their fans began to leave around the 80 minute mark, and by full time when the stadium announcer had said that there'd be a lap of honour, I'd say about 3/4 of the home crowd had gone home. Enjoyed the pitch invasion when we got promoted from League One, enjoyed it when we got promoted from the Championship. However, to me, a pitch invasion for finishing 10th-17th in the Premier League, with safety guarenteed before the game, is pointless.

I heard "this is how it feels to be Pompey" at Spurs and at Sunderland. There was a group on the train back from Spurs who sung "this is how it feels to be Pompey" incessantly and after about 10 minutes it began to get on my nerves. I wouldn't mind it so much if it was "wonder how it feels" or "tell us how it feels" or something. Watching Saints play decent football in the Premier League is nothing like what it feels to be Pompey! I know the Inspiral Carpets said "this is how it feels" but thats a song about depression and suicide and stuff, I'm sure we can alter the words slightly? We shouldn't have to copy Man Utd either...

Signed, good luck.

Signed. Great initiative. Signed up and became a member of the FSF a while back now.

It just goes to show what a run in the team and a bit of confidence can do. These past few months he has been superb. Sign him up. I'd be delighted if he was our no.1 next season.

Pretty sure when Lambert scored that header at Stamford Bridge he pushed Cahill (?) out of the way before nodding it in...

No point me doing this as I agree with everything here!

Saints 3 Liverpool 1 - Post Match Reactions

There's a thread on Liverpool's forum about Schneiderlin. "Could pick him up on the cheap maybe. Would make a good squad player." Haha -

F*cking brilliant. Every player gave 100%. Not even gonna vote for a man of the match cos I won't be able to decide. Excellent stuff. -
What are you favorite Pompey Jokes

Saw two Pompey season tickets nailed to a tree the other day. "I'll have them!" I thought to myself. After all, you can never have too many nails. -
Spot on, 100% agree. Such a shame the government can't or won't see it like this.

Good pic... I was down the front at Heaton Park, unfortunately it was a bit of a crush, I only managed to get one photo, during the opener, before it became impossible to get to my phone again. Not as good as yours!!

Across the UK, pubs are closing at a rate of 18 per week. It's sad, a shame.

Mauricio Pochettino has warned Harry Redknapp to expect a hate-fuelled reception when he returns to Southampton after claiming the atmosphere at St Mary’s is more intense than the Nou Camp. Redknapp is despised by Saints fans after overseeing the club’s relegation from the Premier League for the first time in 27 years in 2005 before defecting back to bitter rivals Portsmouth months later. The QPR chief takes his basement side to the south coast on Saturday in desperate need of a victory to reignite their fading survival hopes. Saints boss Pochettino, who took charge of Espanyol against Barcelona in derby clashes at their world famous ground, said: “In terms of the number of fans in the stadium the Nou Camp is bigger. “But the fans at St Mary’s apply a lot more pressure. In Barcelona they only sing for one minute and then stop again but at St Mary’s they sing for the full 90 minutes. It is very intense and passionate. “My main goal is always to generate a positive atmosphere for my team and always respecting what the people say. I will thoroughly respect whatever they want to say on Saturday. “I don’t know the full story of what happened with Harry but the fans are wiser than we think and they will express themselves how they see fit. “I foresee the fans getting behind the team but they will also allow themselves to voice their views and make their opinions known.” Mirror

Shame I never got to really see him at his best, my first game was in 1999 when I was about 8. Still just grateful I got to see him play at least.

Goals that I am sure we've all seen before, but a decent video nonetheless. What a player he was.

I don't suppose people will be singing this in the family area, do you? If parents are to take their kids into the more vocal areas of the ground, they would surely expect colourful language? I wouldn't start chanting that at Redknapp in the street if I had kids with me, just as I wouldn't take them in to the Northam or Itchen North until they're old enough to understand... Swearing happens at the football, people say ****, it's not that big a deal.
