GM took the **** out of Mr Lynam and his consortium then, following a revelation that Mr Fialka is indeed loaded despite all evidence to the contrary, started a spoof "humble pie" thread and sat back and waited to see who would take the bait. Many did....then beyond GM's wildest dreams, Mr Lynam himself took it hook, line and sinker and even responded on the aforemention thread accepting the spoof apology. GM then responded with another (more transparent **** taking spoof) "I love you too" post and the cat was out of the bag. The moral of the story is clear - if you want to get involved in buying a football club, don't be foolish enough to post messages on a fans forum to which a few hundred cyber nerds subscribe. However well intended, it will only lead to bitterness and heartache. Thats about it I think. Nothing else of significance has happened other than a few pointless polls. By the way mods, can we start a poll to decide whether pointless polls should be banned or not: 1) Ban pointless polls 2) Allow pointless polls Thanks

You cannot fake £500k so where did it come from? It was always a sum of money that could potentially be lost, so somebody somewhere must have been able to afford to write it off if need be. I would have to be worth a shed load of cash to be able to chuck £500k down the drain.

The fact that he approached him must mean that he knew him or had worked with him previously.....so what is the problem? Why some people are so keen to cast aspersions by nit-picking is starting to get on my tits. Hopefully whoever is trying to buy this club will look on the group of people on this forum as nothing more important than a pub full of "self-righteous brothers" ala Harry Enfield and Co.....and yes I include myself in that.

Ditto - I don't understand all this negativity and shock. I was expecting a name that I knew (I seem to remember reading that we would be pleasantly surprised), but so what?. If he is willing to put his money into this club then great. I didn't hear anything that alluded to the presence of a consortium unless the version I saw was edited from the original. Definitely a new manager though? Presumably Wotte already knows this.

What were you expecting then? What would have left you less shocked?

A consortium usually means more than one investor. That is not the case here.

Why would Blue Square be more appealing? Surely the point is that with -25 it is possible that we will end up in League 2 the following season, whereas if we start in League 2 on zero we may be in League 1 the following season (if we get promoted). So it has to be a toss up between which one gives us the best chance of being in League 1 or higher the following season - which rules out the Blue Square does it not?
