I think £10k pw is what he was earning, not what he will be earning if he accepts the new contract. Wages aren't an issue in terms of our ability to keep players IMHO - excluding what the CL clubs are offering of course.

Good riddance IMHO. His behaviour has been poor, he has no desire to play for our club, and I would rather see him replaced with somebody who actually wants to be here. If we double our money then better still......although I would still get some pleasure out of seeing him getting the Pierre van Hooijdonk treatment next season.

Probably because no top four teams (or top European teams) came in with bids that would either turn the players heads or the clubs. None of the players you listed links for come into the hot property bracket - like 28 year old England internationals for example.

For a start, it wouldn't be in Pochettino's remit to promise new contracts to anyone, especially not to player that is only one year into his first one. So no, it hasn't occurred to me because it's so improbable it's not worth a second thought. That, and the fact that it has very little to do with the post I was responding to.

Sets a dangerous precedent though don't you think? Threaten to strike to get a move (allegedly) and get an improved contract as a consequence. If that happens it would be kept very quiet I expect.

What would be the point in a new contract - and what would it prove? For a new contract to be relevant the terms would have to be different from the existing contract, so do you believe we should reward his behaviour with a wage rise, or expect him to sign something that reduces his pay? ....or perhaps you want him to sign a contract on the same terms for an extended period. An apology would be appropriate but I am struggling with the contract idea tbh.
