Hilarious (still)

Aren't you supposed to be some sort of budding sports journalist? If so, I have a vacancy at my place for a WUM to irritate the recent student intake. You can practice journalism at lunchtimes.
-
Can't be a Skate because he is a self-proclaimed semi-ITK poster. He told me as much in another thread so it must be true.
-
Pretty poor form from Poyet to says these things in public (if he did). That said, it makes for great entertainment.
-
So what do you think we did when we arrived at our initial opening bid? Are you "amazed and very disappointed" because you think they plucked a figure out of the sky, or do you think they arrived at the figure after some due diligence?
-
I somehow doubt it Terry Hurlock started his own business and hasn't been seen (much) since. Not even bothering with a ST anymore as he never gets to use it. Just as well he doesn't post on here either as his literacy skills let him down badly
-
A whole thread devoted to an ex-poster! Roll on the new season.......

Whilst agreeing with the general sentiment of your post, it is also very difficult to know in advance what people want for a player isn't it? I imagine there is a certain amount of information exchange before a bid, but if Celtic did intimate that they would be willing to sell, it would not be in their interest to name a price straight away any more than it would be in our interest to start off high. Although it is not FM, there is still a certain amount of wheeler dealer activity before a fee is agreed (unless a release clause is involved).
-
I admire your resolve
-
I don't agree - sorry. We will have to leave it at that until he is sold. If the fee is disclosed, then it might be possible to debate whether or not our original valuation had been eroded. Even then, it will just be an opinion based on ones own idea of his market value.
-
Sorry but I totally disagree. As Wes Tender said, we hold the aces here. We have a valuation (which is probably inflated) and they either pay it or he goes nowhere. Even if he ends up going for slightly less than our valuation, we still won't have lost millions. You seem to think that if you want to buy something, and that "something" wants you to own it, the current owner is going to be obliged to sell it to you cheaper. Good luck with that.
-
It's a very dubious assertion I am afraid. Despite what you say, unless we sell him for a cut price, his words have still not cost us millions have they? As far as I know he has not been sold, and he won't be unless our valuation is met. If he is sold, and our valuation is met, we will have made a healthy profit. If you believe that our valuation of Lovren has been artificially lowered by his public outburst then I am afraid I totally disagree - but as Whitey said, it can never be proven.
-
.......and the panda bit?
-
Sorry - still don't get it. Maybe you mean that he is worth more than £16m - a moot point. However the claim was that his "quotes have cost us millions" - which doesn't make sense to me, although I am being a tad pedantic.
-
Mmmm yes, well the only way I can see that it would cost us anything would be if we sold for a loss and/or caught a cold on a replacement - neither of which have happened so far. A very strange assertion by Oldie IMHO
-
Out of interest, how have his quotes in the media cost our club millions?
-
Isn't that what we are already saying?
-
Given the alternative is to be completely unsuccessful I think the answer has to be "yes" doesn't it? Then, if your best players get poached, do it all over again. Somebody mentioned Athletico Madrid as an example of a team who would have been better off being unsuccessful. You have to be kidding me? Do you really think their fans now regret winning the league title? If you are only "mildly successful" then your best players are still going to leave for better opportunities, so you are in the same boat but starting from a worse position.
-
Clearly you have not observed the little debate I was in with ToonSaint, otherwise you wouldn't have said that.
-
I was quite amused by that, despite it being debatable (the Americanisation bit that is). OK, to correct my error, "so I don't feel too nauseated"
-
I have removed the Americanism so that I don't feel too nauseous
-
Well, I don't agree, so I guess we can leave it at that. If they sell Lovren and we start the season without a decent replacement, then I will be whining with the rest of course.
-
A colleague of mine's daughter is very good friends with JWP and I am fairly sure he is already on £10k pw - note I said "fairly sure".
-
You are assuming the deal has been confirmed. Maybe it has.....I just haven't seen it. "Is that so difficult" - sometimes yes I imagine it is. The important thing is what (or whom) we start the season with, not the order in which things happen.
-
Signings don't just happen at the drop of a hat. It's nowhere near that simple to get deals over the line. You can't just conjure players out of a hat whenever you feel like it just to create some positive news.
