  1. That's the thing, I'm sure I remember seeing him in the upper east stand as a kid? Must have been on the ponce, glad I didn't go anywhere near him with his (alleged?) form for noncing - shame really, ruined my memory of him!
  2. Yep, Ken Bailey: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/obituary-ken-baily-1467167.html Cheers mate, just wondered that's all. Certainly was Bournemouth, mods might want to move this to General Sport or sommit?
  3. When I was a nipper I seem to remember an England/ Saints (might have made up the Saints bit) who used to follow England all over the world in the 80's/ early 90's. Think he was in his 80's/ 90's at the time too! Used to have a Union Flag on a pole at games with England with a red Chelsea pensioners type jacket and John Bull hat I think too? If I havn't made him up (pretty sure I havn't as I used to see him sat outside a beach hut in Bournemouth every summer) he was a true character, the like of which you don't see much of any more? Anyway, was he Saints and if he was, what was his story?
  4. The Northam will sing "on the pitch, on the pitch, on the pitch" fir the entire second half then when a load do go on they'll start singing "w*****s" at those that do. The Northam and modern day barmies their finest. One of the many reasons I and many others no longer sit there.

  6. Shame they don't do it at Fratton to cover up the awful, post Euro 96 "Na na na..." stuff that is all I hear when I see you lot, just about the only good point about your silence at St Marys (not for the first time) was the lack of that work of lryrical art! I can honestly say that if we had a loser like JPFCW ruining the atmosphere down here he'd be f***ed right off! "Clap banners"
  7. lol "clap banners" isn't that what no mark clubs like Reading have to "generate atmosphere"? Drums, bells, Rumble sticks etc have NO place in football, glad we don't tolerate them here, make me proud to be Southampton.
  8. No worries mate, have a good one - good to see a man of taste that's willing to do research rather than blindly booking into a Jurys Inn for a similar outlay! You won't be disappointed...
  9. So you've had a direct quote from a former detective superintendant and 50 of 56 people involved in the case interview by the Times agreed. What exactly do you need to see to get you to change your opinion on this? Genuinely lost for words.....
  10. I work in London and reccomend it to everyone I work with that has to stay in God's own City. I've stayed there myself before, rooms are under £100, quality - good service and restaurant probably the best in Southampton. In fact, I can't believe God's own City has so few "boutique" hotels? Anyone who travels a bit for work will confirm that Bristol, Notts, Manchester, Leeds etc have plenty of awesome independently owned places for under £100 (during the credit crunch us private companies have had our hotel limits cut) a night.

  12. Good links to the Telegraph but the main investigation was done by The Times. Sorry to burst a few people's bubbles but there most definately was a cover up, the reports are incredibly thorough and some genuinely concerning findings have come out of it. Here’s today’s latest update on the story (I've pasted the whole story because timesonline is a paid for site):
  13. The lad certainly would be a breath of fresh air in any pre/ post match interview, had time for him for years since his interview where he said too many England players just turn up, put on the tracksuit and add 20% to their next club contract. He's made mistake but I think he's right that he's the best English midfielder this season (maybe 2nd to Scott Parker but not a lot to choose from). Amazing interview in the Indy today - has plenty to say about Gareth Barry, none of which I can dissagree with really? http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/international/barton-drop-teachers-pet-barry-ndash-im-englands-best-midfielder-2264160.html
  14. The ability of some forum members to forget history on here never ceases to amaze me! Wallcott was THE stand out player for us in 05/06, we relied compltely on a 16/17 year old kid in a side better than our starting 11 now. He tore that division up, was it a suprise? Yes, but not a massive one considering Theo was THE stand out player in his age catagory in EUROPE since he was 14. He broke all Rooneys age and scoring records for Englnd U17, 19 & 21 - Barca, Man U, Arsenal etc were siffing around from when he was 15. I saw him play a handful of times in our (almost) all conquering youth side in 03/04 (or 04/05?) and he stood a mile out and people were going crazy for him. When he was the same age as Oxo he was definately superior, you simply cannot deny that? His progress at Arsenal has been brilliant, they are the best footballing side in the UK and their emphisis on long term development of a squad has greatly helped Theo, training with Van Persie, Henry, Fabrigas etc has turned him into a devastating footballer that was responsible for ngland's most convincing win in a competetitive match since the 5-1 in Munich, has scared the best team ever? Barcelona on more than 1 occasion, scored in cup finals and is a first choice for Capello and Wenger at 21 years old. Not bad for a sprinter with no footballing brain!
  15. To be fair it did at Fratton (the first game there after they were promoted), I didn't have a ticket and just bundled my way through and stood on the stairs between blocks. Helped being 30 minutes late and with 500 unhappy punters though....
  16. Too true - just checked before I saw your response: http://www.afcb.co.uk/page/LatestTicketNews/0,,10324~2270822,00.html Oh well, will go down on the day without a ticket and try and get a spare then. Not a problem.
  17. Are they sold out? If not I've got no problem sitting with our country cousins from Dorset.
  18. Good point, probably better to have bright orange jumpsuits in the style of US chain gangs. That way the work shy can be easily spotted without their regulation Cider in hand.
  19. I have an idea to help the Governments “universal benefits” campaign. Firstly, I have to say that in a civilized society, the injured, disabled, genuine jobseekers and pensioners should be looked after. However, I’m sure everyone on here knows that people exist that purely use the benefits system as a lifestyle choice. I’m happy for jobseekers to be paid an amount each month in cash for 3 months. At the end of that they have 2 options: Carry on getting paid their universal benefits in cash but having to either do charity work/ roadsweeping/ graffiti cleaning or, if none the these are available, digging a big hole in the ground with a shovel then filling it up again. Or, Only get benefits but in the form of vouchers. These would be administered by automated “begging bowls” where the long term work shy can sit beneath with a 20 word maximum placard in front saying why they think they deserve the money earned by passers by. The “bowl” will be similar to the M6 Toll where you can chuck change in and it filters through giving a total. At the end of their “shift” (max 8hrs to comply with European working regs) the beggers can print out a voucher whereby tax and NI has been deducted (ie, £100 “donated” = a voucher for £77, the remaining £23 goes to the Exchequer). The voucher can be used for food, water, heating, electricity, clothing and baby food only. No Sky TV, cigarettes, booze etc.
  20. Arsenal in to 11/4 now on Paddy Power. Put a tenner on Arsenal to win and a fiver on Arsenal ahead at half time, barca full time (18/1). The 2 best footballing teams in the world, should be a pleasure to watch. Doesn't matter who you support, if you can't appreciate the way both Arsenal and Barca play football and their phylosophy - you ain't football.
  21. You clearly have to be mental to take the bible literally, but the guidence it gives is bang on in my opinion. Threat others as you expect to be treated yourself for example, sound advice.
  22. It was Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.....
  23. It tears my pal apart that. He employs a nanny full time as his missus is a City Lawyer. He's 31 now any fully intends to retire at 40 although I'm worried it might be too late by then. His is by no means a perfect life, there's no way I could either a- hack it, or b- stand being away from my kid but unfortunately this country needs workers like this to put in the hours and earn enough to pay the taxes to employ 8 teachers - that's why I "laud" him.
  24. Witty. I'm proud of him, lad from Harefield estate that now has a top job at a top firm. A true inspiration to any kids out there that through hard work you can do whatever you like. Even more proud that his annual taxes pay for my missus' job as a teacher along with 7 of her colleagues. We don't celebrate success in this country, far more likely to be snide and have a dig. Pathetic.
  25. What, to see if he can match your 4k+ posts on a football forum? He's too busy making clients, his company and his family wealthy. He would have been picked up by his driver at 4.30am this morning to be in the City for 5am, he will leave approx 11.00pm tonight, look through his little boy's bedroom door to make sure he's still there and do it all over again tomorrow. Without time for a single post on an internet website between. How many days holiday have you taken this year? He took 2 for a stag do and 5 for his honeymoon. Face facts, the likes of me and you are meant for "average" lives, thank god for the hard working few that earn big bucks and through their taxes pay for the services we and our friends enjoy.
